  • Welcome to Efteling, a theme park unlike any you've ever visited - and certainly unlike any that we've ever visited in the United States! Efteling is the most renowned theme park in the Netherlands, and we were over the moon to have been able to visit for the very first time this month as we made our way overseas to Kaatsheuvel for the start of Efteling's summer 2023 season. During our first (vlogged) day at Efteling, we took on dark ride favorites such as Symbolica, Droomvlucht (Dreamflight) and Villa Volta while setting aside some time for new coaster credits like Baron 1898, Vogel Rok and Python! Better still, we made our way through stories come to life in the famous Fairytale Forest to claim a proper Dutch Stroopwafel at Kogeloog and even squeezed in the park's legendary water show, Aquanura! It's a full day of fun and fantasy in our very first vlog from an international theme park, and we can't wait to share this magical place with you!

    Great video. I now live in the UK, but I am Dutch and a former Efteling employee (worked at the restaurant by Vogelrok, and actually had to clean the hippo at the end of the shift. ;) ) , so seeing these kinds of videos always warms my heart. When you said you could just walk around in it all day, there are people who get their yearly pass just to do that. The park is beautiful, and even if you don't do any of the rides, it is lovely to just have a stroll. Thank you for sharing this.

      That means so very much to us! 😍 As much as we love a good roller coaster, the things we love most about theme parks are things like atmosphere, music and the simple escape into fantasy. The moment we walked into Efteling we knew that it would be the best theme park we'd ever visited, and we were absolutely right. ✨ We tried our best to do the park justice in our vlogs and we're so glad that you enjoyed watching them, especially as a former Efteling employee yourself! Dankjewel for your kind words - and for cleaning the hippo all those years! 😊

    Funny thing about the fairytale forrest is that the fairytales are in its original form.
    So for example when you stood by Rapunzel the voice was telling about the prince that jumped from the tower and turned blind.
    No holding back here XD

    Efteling looks truly magical ✨ we’re used to the Disney “Magic” but this looks so special and unique in its own way. All of the theming and the overall feel of the park feels like you’re really being taken to a land of fantasy!
    Baron looks like a great dive coaster with some awesome theming elements. I was so surprised when I heard you say that python was smooth for an arrow coaster lol. I’ve been on a few that are fun rides but they’ve never been a favorite and definitely not any coasters I would have considered “smooth” by any means 😂
    The food at Efteling looks pretty good too! Lots of fun and interesting options it seems. All of the other dark rides, expediences, shows, and entertainment all seem to contribute very well to the magical ambience and overall intrigue of the park. It really looks so different, but in the best way possible. Definitely added to our list of places to visit… eventually! 😅
    Awesome video. Thanks so much for sharing!

      There’s a reason that many refer to Efteling as the ‘Dutch Disneyland’! 😁 Baron is a masterpiece, as is pretty much every ride in the park. And the food is INCREDIBLE, relative to any other theme park we’ve ever visited - Disney included. Efteling is well worth the visit, whenever you can make it work! Nowhere else we’ve ever visited _quite_ measures up. Thanks for watching, guys!

      Python was retracted in 2018, so it is a new coaster, except for the lift hill. It is super smooth. They kept the same lay-out, because it is a classic for the park (first thrill ride) and it was the first double looping coaster in Europe.

    What a dream to visit the Netherlands! The suspense with the Baron coaster when you are waiting at the base and then go so high up! That drop gave me butterflies lol! So fun. Python looks so fun too, I love the look of the track. So awesome it was the best aerocoaster you have ever been on. Lunch looks so good! Meat pie, salad, comfort soup! Dreamflight looks really cute. I was about to write how Fairytale Forest (or "Fantasy Forest" hehe) looked relaxing and then I saw the creepy animatronics hahaha. Nevermind!! Don't fall off the toadstool Tim! 🤣 Dutch pizza, how fun! Shepherd's pie inside a roll... how fun!! I want one haha! That plant is the coolest souvenir ever Katie, I agree! That is a fun pin! It was above and beyond anything we ever could have hoped for! 🥹 Baron 1898 was easily one of our favorite rides from the trip, but there were so many rides and attractions to choose from on that list, and not a single one of them was disappointing. Fairytale Forest may have had some sporadic instances of creep factor 😂 but ultimately it was very relaxing, and very nostalgic. All of the fairytales of our childhood brought to life in such a fun, engaging and sometimes even interactive way! Aquanura was definitely a highlight, as well, but we can't wait to revisit in the early Spring or the winter someday so that we're able to see it with the lighting package after dark! ✨ Thanks for watching, Meg!

      I can’t even put into words how good the food was throughout the whole of the Netherlands. 😋 There’s basically zero preservatives, every meal large or small (with exception of the vending machines) was made fresh with only the freshest ingredients, and it was all priced really affordably! We felt like we were having a Garden Grill type meal every time we sat down for a quick bite, and I’m sure that the Dutch thought we were crazy 😂 Droomvlucht (Dream Flight) and Symbolica were two of our absolute favs and I think we ran through them about six or seven times each before we left the property ☺️ Thanks so much for watching, guys!

    Really glad both of you enjoyed the Python retrack. it is really something to experience such an old-school layout with a smooth modern track and train. A lot of people mention the agonizingly slow lift hill but the Python has to be released carefully I guess. Anyway, great vlog and thanks sharing your xperience of my local park. Btw, "saucijzenbroodje" is pronounced more or less like "Sow-saizen-broth-jeh" (au => ow (like in "owl"), ij => like english i, "ai"). Nevertheless, don't worry about pronunciation too much, we tend to get it anyway. For anyone enthering the Sprookjesbos, doesn't matter where you enter but fair warning: you'll probably get lost.

    • @timandkt
      @timandkt  Před 10 měsíci +1

      I think we're accustomed to a slow crawl for some of our lift hills in the US, particularly on the older rides - so it didn't bother us too much to have to wait out our ascent to the top. 😊 Definitely worth it, for the smooth, fun ride that Python provides! Thank you for your notes on pronunciation, as well....I appreciate that the language barrier in the Netherlands is minimal, but we are continuing to work on our Dutch, so that hopefully we'll be a little bit more well-spoken when we next return to the Netherlands! 😁

    If you do like well themed parks and rollercoasters Europe is a lot of fun. Doing the states now after having minned out europe and the coasters are great over there but the theming isn't that great (disney and universal not included those are very well themed).

      Thank you so much! 🥹 We fell in love with Efteling after only an hour, and it means so much to us that you, as a local, appreciate our videos. We tried our best to show off what a fun and magical couple of days we had! We also 100% share your opinion on immersive theme parks in Europe, versus our lack of them here in the states. We love a good record-breaking roller coaster, but we're so much more captivated by a thematic experience and an immersive atmosphere than we are by the tallest or steepest drops on record. It's funny that you mention exploring Europe for more parks, though, because we have already booked our next European theme park trip for the upcoming year! Thanks again for watching!

    • @timandkt
      @timandkt  Před 10 měsíci +2

      I think it went both ways! 😁 We actually did a little digging to see who came up with what first and found out that Mayor Van der Heijden, Anton Pieck and Peter Reijnders' park predated Disneyland by a number of years...but subsequent additions like Fata Morgana and Spookslot actually came about from the founders' visit to Disneyland and their initial impressions of Pirates, Haunted Mansion, etc. It's easy to compare Disney to Efteling in terms of quality, immersion and theming, but Efteling takes the crown in most categories imo! ✨ Thanks so much for watching!

Thanks for the help on pronouncing suzijzenbroodje, too! We were trying to learn a bit of Dutch while we were traveling, and hoping to be much more proficient before the next time we visit. Just been to Europapark, which is technically a better themepark in terms of just the sheer number of quality attractions. But The Efteling beats it in the way that its layed out, with all the beautiful landscaping, plus the original soundtracks for each ride are just phenomenal. Its the kind of music that you just unconsciously keep humming long after you leave the atrraction.

    • @timandkt
      @timandkt  Před 10 měsíci +5

      We are super excited to visit Europa Park in the very near future - but it's worth pointing out that bigger doesn't always mean better! 😁 Sometimes the smaller parks are able to offer more "magic" for a better price. Efteling jumped all the way to the top of our list after a single visit, displacing every Disney park we've ever visited in addition to all the chain and regional parks that we love to visit in the U.S. Right there with you that the onride soundtracks are amazing, as well - we downloaded the entire Efteling soundtrack when we got home! ✨

      @@timandkt Tell me about it. Efteling is my home park, been going there since a little boy. But Europapark has pleasantly surprised me. Both themeparks work together. Annual passholders can visted both parks (a limited number of times) and the rides and theming are clearly worked on together and ideas are shared. They are a bit too far away from each other to be direct competition anyways, so this works out really well. Europapark has similar reasonable pricing, and the operations, attention to detail and overall "feel" of the park is just amazing. If you loved Efteling, you will very much enjoy Europapark. Its great to see these 2 parks especially, beat Disney in their own game, simply by being better and in providing much better value for money.

    • @timandkt
      @timandkt  Před 11 měsíci +1

      It’s both! ☺️ Although it is definitely more Vekoma than it is Arrow nowadays. Not much is left of the original track or coaster, but it was originally constructed as an Arrow Dynamics’ Double Loop Corkscrew in 1981 before being retracked and having its trains replaced by Vekoma to reduce noise. I believe it was retracked again in 2018 to smooth out the ride. There may only be a few pieces of Arrow left, but we thought it was worth highlighting the original make because many of the standing Arrows in the USA have not been updated or maintained and make for incredibly rough rides! 🥲 We’d love to see Vekoma hybridize Arrows at the parks here the way that they have at Efteling!
