Listening to Danaher talk makes me want to get better at everything
Fast Locksmith or shoot up a school. Dude is like Rory Macdonald father.
.makes me wanna goto sleep
"Your actions, no matter where you are, are only going to be as orderly and efficient as the thoughts that govern them." Brilliant.
Not many people know this but John Danaher actually played every musical instrument in the jazzy music you hear playing in the background.
John was my coach for a few years while I was training in NYC (along w Igor, Rolles, and Renzo). He is a savant of BJJ. I'm so happy that the wider world found his genius.
Some say he came out of the womb in a rash guard.
Mike Friedman Some say his head is actually just a helmet over a Stig shaped helmet underneath.
Danaher is like The Stig of BJJ.
Mike Friedman Legend says that
You mean it's not true?😩😁
Professor X of Jiu-Jitsu

I would love to see Danaher on the Joe Rogan Experience
iKazekage was just thinking that 30 seconds in to the video.
Im watching this after seeing him on JRE
Your wish has been granted
he was on there ... but it was kind of annoying.
@@mikey.bananas did you?
you should lower down the background music...it is hard to hear danaher
+1
*danahear
I want to choke the guy whodoes audio ! So much wisdom but bearly can hear what he is saying ad that annoying guitar makes it even haeder to focus on what he says . Please fix the audio and do better next time ! After all very good interview
this
The music starts around :25 but around 2:25 and 4:00 or so the music starts following Danaher’s speech pattern a lot. My guess as to why it’s louder but very cool nonetheless.
John Danaher interviews less than 30 mins are too short.

Check out the Joe Rogan podcast with John Danaher. It's brand new : p
One of my favorite episodes ever. I love when people really commit to, not only the physical side, but the intellectual side of bjj as well
John Danaher can train anyone and make them a fucking champion in 10 years. He is beyond a coach, he is a mentor. what a legend!!
Jeff Mao
He is baptizing me in live waters....
Easily the Bill Billichick of jiu jitsu
nonsense
He has achieved all his goals, with Gordon Ryan leading the way as the greatest of all time. An incredible coach proving he can do it time and time again.
This guy is a Jiu Jitsu wizard. Great knowledge and passion for the art. Much respect.
This dude may be the brightest BJJ instructor i have ever met. Good luck with your hip.
9:29 you did that John! Be proud of yourself! You are really a legend!
Man the girl making jiu jitsu weird, send her home
Just to let you know, I had a hip replacement about a year ago and I had many of the same doubts about training. I have now been training 3 months and I feel there's nothing I can't do now or in the future. I am 55 and when I started I was 100 pounds overweight.
Hey Dude! I've got 2 and I'm 52. I'm glad you are in it to win it like me! The fact that others like me and you are doing it, is so encouraging and should be to others. This is the greatest thing that has happened to me physically and mentally. I'm thankful I can train everyday and I wish I could it all day.
You both are a huge inspiration!!
music is too loud
Watching this video in 2022 and realizing this man achieved all of his goals. And he can still do jiu jitsu with his hip. Love to see it.
I have trained with several who's who of trainers. Not many knows every transition and describes it in a formula. He has a pacific terminology but not unheard of. John truely knows bjj as a whole. Eddie Bravo has his strengths.. the language is different with both those guys.. Danaher i prefer, if he has a weakness it's his memory. He knows more than what he's was ever taught. He is his own.
if hannibal lecter chose bjj instead of cannibalism
Troy Yang 😂😂😂
“Hello Claris...”
@@shakethaspot6301 More like "Hello Renzo"
"Clarice Starling, post."
Incredibly well spoken, respectful and insightful human being. I could listen to this all day.
GSP credits alot of his success to Danaher. Along with GSP's main coach Zahabi, he was one that helped create game plans and helped GSP become mentally prepared for his fights. Danaher is a JiuJitsu Mastermind...
Danaher is so cooooollllll...calm , composed and that cold dark smile that can make your shiver to ur spine...errggghh
Guy is flat out brilliant. Such a unique combination of cerebral and physical prowess.
Teachers that are calm and slow things down and when sharing a technique that know the troubleshooting and counters are the easiest and best to learn from. Progress for sure.
I could listen to this man for hours. If i'm ever in New York that's where i'm going and MG of course.
0:42 John is so special that there are 2 of him on the same mat
“That was an absolute coaching highlight” talking about creating the greatest fighter in human history. 🤣🤣🤣 What a stud. Me and John look very different on paper but we’d be BFF
Loving the jazz track in the background!
Did I see a purple belt Gordon Ryan at 7:37 👀 crazy how fast times change
More John! I love hearing him drop knowledge.
This man is legendary. So much information and experience... mind blowing.
This is a very smart man, not just in a BJJ frame. He described what the real point of western universities: to make better learners. It's something I've studied at university my first year and a half or so. That really is what college all boils down to. They can teach you skills, and certain professions have direct translation degrees. But a liberal arts college main job is to build someone who knows how to learn.
I heartily agree! Most schools - colleges and universities - are just factories turning out great employees. Very few schools are encouraging, or allowing, true intellect to be developed.
The best mind in BJJ, a professor to all!
Fantastic to get an insight into John Danaher. Thanks for producing this video.
9:27 dat face...damnnnn
+Buli0n LOL
That's Tony Bourdain's wife lmao
Im telling you, bitches get weird when it comes to triangles
Curtis Louthan 😂😂😂
I thought the same shit
Thanks for this, always wanted to hear more of John.
get this Genius with joe rogan and edgie brah
Im here because of this. Wish eddie was there too though.
I got good news for you bud
Man is a genius. Amazing communicator of ideas and techniques. Putting the highest levels of BJJ into words a caveman could understand. A LOT harder than it sounds. Anyone lucky enough to train with this guy will be better for it.
Interesting perspective and story from this man....Seems like a superb instructor. Thanks.
Great commentary, came here after being impressed by Firas, then finding out he is coached by Danaher.
Another wonderful video! Thank you Bjj hacks!
I was a little confused when John said that he didn't see a purple belt in BJJ for the first 3 years of his training but then I remembered that Matt Serra was only a blue belt when John was a white belt and didn't get his purple belt until over a year later.
Back then Renzo was the only black belt instructor (along with Craig Kukuk before they separated ways) at the academy. Matt and his brother Nick began teaching and running classes when they got their purple belts and later Renzo brought over a brown belt named Vinnie to teach as well. Outside of the Gracie Academies in California this is pretty much how most BJJ schools were staffed in the United States at the time and some didn't even have any black belt or even brown belt instructors.
Wow listening to him talk it's not hard to imagine why he was such a great fit at tristar with firas and gsp... it was danaher's idea to get rogan to teach his back kick to gsp.
Awesome, really insightful, such an interesting character
Explained with such poetry!
7:37 Gordon when he was a purple belt and in a gi.. so much history in one picture
Another great bjj hacks video! love the intro music too
This was a great video, so insightful!
A random AJ rolling with the guys, with the omnipresent Gracie Barra logo and all :D
so crazy this is lik 3 yeas ago and he was aalready speaking about producing world champions - now he has the DDS and its mazing how FAR the whole JJ Game has progressed since then - thanks to those guys
Wasn't long enough! Awesome stuff though. Been waiting for this video
Wow!, just found this channel now!, excellent vid!
7:37, it's Gordon at purple belt?
I would love to train under Coach Danaher. What a personality in this sport!
The background music is too loud, really annoying. Great interview anyway
A very intelligent and fantastic human being! All the best in his surgery.
I have never see a BJJ class where the guys stand and try take downs so much , is this usual at Renzo a academy ?
Good stuff as always
Thanks, that was awesome!
Yoda in a rash guard
One really knowledgeable guy🤼
The background music is atrocious I would suggest to keep it quieter.
Wow. Spoken like a true warrior
14 seconds - Makes me laugh big time. Hearing that before randori always makes you nervous. Big respect to John , Renzo and New York.
Orderly and Efficient. Well governed. Clarity leads to precise movement. Yessir.
Brilliant man
I wish I was introduced to mma early in my life, such an amazing sport
The dream of training with JD is overwhelming...
No word of a lie... This guy showed up at a guys wedding wearing his rash guard. Not kidding. BJJ to the bone.
kanenas I heard about that lol
kanenas
It was Matt Serra's wedding the one where he came in a rashguard.
Just type in the search bar "John Danah brings rashguard to Matt Serra's wedding"
AJ is everywhere!
This man must be the most articulate bjj practitioner ever. Such a sharp intellect.
he trained Chirs Weidman and St Pierre but they usually won on strikes. At least Weidman beat Silva that way. Not taking anything away from Danaher, hes a genius on the ground game.
I took some lessons from him and seen him spar, he's amazing, can easily hold his own against any grappler in the world. He is VERY strong. When he rolled and he showed me a choke, the I felt like my neck would break. Top people in the class tried playfully catching him off guard and he would still get you. He was a bouncer for years at some bad ass hip-hop clubs in the bronx and would have to some times handle BIG body guards of celebs who called him out - he would lift them with standing guillotines and drop them on their heads. He is a true BAD ASS, probably scarier off the mat with no rules, He just really loves the science and teaching of it, but could fuck people up bad if he wanted to, especially with no rules.
I've never seen a sport evolve as fast as MMA did.
I still know plenty of people who are clueless about jiujitsu, the dentist tells me "stop getting kicked so much!" When I chip my teeth at jj, moms always tell me how their 9 year old is a black belt in Taekwondo when I mention jiujitsu, even the lady at the cleaners told me "nice karate costume" when I brought my Gi there to get patches sewn on. When I say "it's like wrestling and Judo combined" they go "oooohhhhhhh"...
yeah I just say it's like Judo, but with more groundfighting. Everyone knows Judo. Though suprisingly many don't even realize it has newaza lol.
Would love to see this guy roll
This music 😂 raise Danaher's volume sheesh
John Danaher "The phenomena manufacturer" (Garry Tonon, Eddie Cummings, and Gordon Ryan)
"Your actions, no matter where you are, are only going to be as orderly and efficient as the thoughts that govern them...Be precise. If your thoughts are vague, your actions are going to be vague."
How come we never see danaher spar? I hear people speak the world of him, but I want to see him in action.
TROLL because he is a 50 year old guy with major knee and hip problems. A bad injury early in life and the badly done surgery has given him ongoing problems and he recently had a hip replacement.
Pure genius!!
less of the cheesy fucking lounge music guys
I want to see him roll... have been reading that he is legendary for years, is there some footage..?
Coach does not and did not roll to anyone's knowledge.
gokce2112 That's disappointing. I would love to see him on the mat.
Dudes a genius
that's the coach of my dreams
The way he talks.. wow... wish i could train under this guy
9:17 Danaher calls this move "the head fucker"
Danaher for the Grappling central podcast please!!!
John Danaher= God
i'm a huge political libertarian so i'm glad to hear that word is becoming part of people's vocabulary 7:00-8:00
is that aj agazarm at the begining ? and why lol
What a badass
4:25 well maybe because one has a phd in philosophy as well as a 4th degree black belt in BJJ
great video
Danaher is a genius.
High level of speach
come back BJJ Hacks 2023
any new videos coming up? it was a good projet
And thus began the War of the Leglockers from Bootscooterton
With all due respect, of course. I enjoy learning by watching Danaher's students...
