  • Join me for an in-depth review of the Honda XRE, the 291CC miniature Africa Twin that accompanied me on my 10-day adventure. In this video, I share my thoughts and experiences riding this confident bike through various terrains. Discover what makes the Honda XRE a standout choice, as I delve into its features and specifications. From its height and riding posture to the practicality of luggage bags for off-roading, we cover it all. Learn about the power, protection, ground clearance, suspension, and wheel size that contribute to the XRE's performance. I also provide insights into the usefulness of luggage racks and demonstrate how to lift the Honda XRE. And if you've ever wondered why Honda launched the XRE exclusively in Latin America, I'll address that too. Whether you're considering this bike or simply curious about its capabilities, this review will provide valuable insights. Watch the full video to get all the details and make an informed decision.

That’s a great bike and a load of fun for tripping. Unfortunately so many get caught up in a mind trip and purchase heavy adventure bikes which is ok if your plan is to only stick to the tar. Adventure riding needs to be a blast which is not the case if one is trying to punch above you weight off road on a heavy adventure bike. Great channel and keep having fun!

Honda NX 400 Falcon, is the bike I still use these days for everything including aggressive off-road.
It was another exclusive Honda model for Latin America and Africa, but it ended up also coming to Portugal.
It's basically the engine from the XR 400, a little more docile, with 30hp, but with plenty of torque, which is what we need most off-road.
It is an old motorcycle, but quite reliable, bulletproof.

I live in Medellin Colombia and have a big Yamaha bolt 950. Love it for city driving. Recently there is a new Gringo riding group of about 15 to 20 who do back-country riding and all on road riding trips. Everything from BMW 1250 to Yamaha Enduro 250. My bike is too pretty to really take off-road so need to add a new bike. Been looking at the CMOTO 800 and supposedly will be here next month. The Africa is way too tall. BMW 1250 with seat lowering is fine but expensive KTM and smaller BMW 750 or 800 are all on my radar and now will include this bike too. Enjoy Colombia Thanks for sharing!

XRE 300 sells in very large numbers here in Brazil, most of the users will buy this little trail bike for urban commuting, where it excels in confort and agility. In a distant past I owned a Honda XL 250R, very similar, I think these bikes are okay for short trips, however their low top speed and small size limit their use for serious traveling.

@@TheGirlOnABike it is. I live in the United States and now I go online and I find all these great bikes that we never had here. We had the NX 650 and 88 and 89 and then it just went away but they had it for 12 more years in Europe, same with the Transalp. They had all different models in Japan in Europe they had 400 600 and larger models, we only had the 600 for a couple years here.
I love some of the bikes that they get in South America, I really like the 350 singles, it’s smaller and lighter, but it still gives plenty of that good low end, torque power. For dual sport in any configuration it’s a great size. It’s kind of like riding a 250 and having a smaller lighter bike but I’m 240 pounds come at 250 is always just a little bit lacking in power. In the US we had the XL 350 and the XT 350 in the DR 350 for a while, and they were awesome, and most of them had six speeds, which made it just about perfect for a light weight bike that could still lug to people or some luggage, basically like the 300 you’re riding their, but with a bit more torque behind it. And people here hated when those bikes left and left a huge hole in between which is basically filled with the DRZ400. We wondered where all those bikes went but apparently they’ve been making them in other countries and we’re just missing out. I don’t know if it’s because of omissions controls or what’s going on but it kind of sucks. That’s a great bike that we don’t have anything that compares to here. Now we have the CRF 300 rally but The newer engines just aren’t it’s tough and reliable and they don’t have the torque of the old 350s. The old 350s are more comparable to a 400 with the torque, they’re not super fast but for a dual sport the torque is way more important. It’s really sad we can’t get those in other countries. :/

I was looking at that same Honda XRE, a lot, before going with the Beamer. The Beamer fit me well, was more comfortable, has a little more power and top end speed. Specifically the way the crash bars are mounted to the front cowl, seems like there's potential to do much more harm than good in a crash... Given the market and the price point I think it's a great option, but a lot of improvements would need to be made to make it a serious contender in certain markets...

I assume the 127 dislikes on this video are people not in South America who are mad because they can't buy an XRE 300. I'm a huge fan of small ADV bikes. Manufacturers only recently and reluctantly started making them, and they treat them as bastard ADV step children - beginner bikes in the western world and aspirational bikes in Asia. They refuse to give them proper ADV bike features such as large fuel tanks or tubeless spoke wheels because they don't want their beginner ADV bikes taking sales away from their large and mid size ADV bikes. I was hoping the reintroduced Honda TransAlp would be a 350-450 cc Africa Single, but I knew it would be a competitor to the very successful mid-size Tenere 700.

Depending on the year, the African Twin
seat height is the same, a tad taller and a tad lower.
Power to weight ratio of the twin is about twice that
of the XRE. Twin is about 160lbs heavier (wet) with a
3'' + - longer wheel base. Wheels are the same size
for both bikes, ground clearance is comparable.
Air cooled XRE, probably about 1/3 the price of a Twin.
Nice bike, good styling, hideous black rims.
We have the Yamaha XT250 here in the US, better
looking bike, 50lbs/23kg lighter, but woefully underpowered,
very similar specs to the XRE otherwise.

I was doing some research on purchasing an older XR200R here in the USA. While looking, I ran across a site that makes it look like Honda still sells the whole XR line in Australia. From the smaller 100 up to the 650. The 650R. Not the dual sport 650L we have here. I am still asking why Honda dumped the XR line here and only left the CRF. The CRF are good bikes, but they are absolutely not trail bikes. Gearing and suspension is all wrong for tight twisty off road trails. The XR dominated in that field. That XRE looks really nice. Take the CRF300 Rally, but better.
