Koffi Olomide is the greatest African artist of all 40 years of success and he comes from my country which is the cradle of African music DRC
As a Kenyan, I love music from the Congo but cradle of African music is pushing it. For one, I love the music of Mali too and I have to say, it’s the most African to me in that there’s a lot of Malian musicians that play traditional instruments, sing in their own language and largely stick to their culture. There are also giants like Salif Keita, Baba Maal, Toumani Diabate who have been in the game for a very long time. Nonetheless, the way Malian singers incorporate instruments like the balafon, djembe, Kora, etc is pretty rare in other African countries. With that said, still bopping to music from the Congo. Love Fally, Inoss’b and Koffi, Awilo and Pepe Kalle were all huge during my mom’s generation. With that said, I think Papa Wemba is probably the best Congolese export. You’d put Koffi above Papa Wemba?

Music genre is Congolese. Listen to Inama, Yo Pe or Yo Pe Remix, then go to listen Loi of Koffi Olomide came out in 1997. You will notice it’s Congolese. Then you listen to Papa Mobimba of Koffi Olomide, a live (instrumental, singing, dance, music) song. Koffi Olomide is the first African to perform on European territory in 2000.
Even the dance when the Asian girl went crazy is Congolese. Whole dance moves are Congolese except the foot ass move.
