@TeclaTorta There are a few problems with public wifi, not least of which is the ease of sniffing your data and stealing info or log ins that way. Beyond that, many employers have a clause in their digital access policies that allows them to access anything you've accessed on their network or devices. I prefer heavily not to be subject to that if possible. Necessity is a factor though.
For my son it was CZcams. He usually used up my 40gb in two days. Even when I told him not to. I had to change the WiFi password and give him his own contract. So he could learn what it means to reach the limit.
I worked for at&t and when i explained that their kid was using all the data they asked what they were doing now we couldn't see what they were doing but we could see usage spiked at around 10pm and they had a teenaged son who was using all the data i told them "umm well streaming videos tend to use a decent amount of data.." they understood what i was saying hahaha
I on average use 30 to 40 gigs a month. Unlimited is just the least expensive option for me. Wifi is only around everywhere in bigger cities. Even medium sized cities don't really have tons of wifi hotspots. Not to mention the ridiculous security risk public wifi presents.
Even though I use way more gigs than the average person in a month, it's because of this reason. The only time I have reason to ask for the WiFi of a restaurant or something is if I'll be there for a long time, plus most work places where I live won't give WiFi access to anything other than authorised devices (company laptops, computers, work phones, ect.) And as a result if you use a personal device, you don't really have the option to use WiFi networks.
How much does it usually cost you? I'm getting SIM only deals in the range of £0.01-£2 for SIMs < 12GB. I only use on average 2GB per month since I connect to Wifi at school and home when possible and most of my apps are set to use the least amount of data when using mobile data. This is why I haven't considered an unlimited data plan.
You can see how much you use in a month in your device settings. If that number never changes much from 1 month to the next like mine, that's the plan you buy.
Why are you using 3 year old usage data??? Do you really think data usage now is the same as it was 3 years ago, I would imagine cellular data usage is kind of like inflation it rarely goes down year over year.
When you don’t have an unlimited plan, and go over by 150gb and get charged an extra $5.00 per gigabyte, that $10 extra per month becomes a pretty good deal for the unlimited plan.
I pay 70 a month and use 75gb but don’t have home internet. I’d say a combined phone and internet bill of 70 (about 1% of takehome pay) is a good deal.
Yeah the Average is 12 a month. I routinely hit the speed slowdown of 50 gigs monthly. I pay for unlimited to avoid slowing my PC at any point ever because my phone did something.

I am a student and live by myself, so I got an unlimited data plan for 30€ a month. And I did not get any Wifi or groundline for my flat. For me this is definitely worth it.
In Russia I get true unlimited data for $7 a month (it’s a legacy plan which is not available for new users). I DO use it. Updates, downloads, streaming movies and hi-fi music? I could care less. I even cancelled my home internet plan because I can just use my phone to share access to my console and laptop (since last December it’s become illegal for providers to restrict hotspot usage). Last month I used a terabyte of data. It’s worth every ruble.
If you're curious about how much data you use, there is a setting in Android that lets you track mobile data usage under data usage. Apple I assume has the same. Free Wi-Fi is everywhere in the city, but it poses always poses security risk. Thus you may be safer using a mobile plan with a vpn. During and before the pandemic, I use a lot of data due to being very mobile. Post pandemic, I do not use much data due to working in an office and university. Just like other things insurance, it's good to check around for prices every few years.
I actually use at least 100GB a month because I don't have wifi everywhere lol. I only have wifi 2 days a week so the other 5 are entirely on the mobile data.
I use pay-as-you-go for data. The upside is that any credit I put in carries over to subsequent months/years, and that I only pay for what I use. The downside is that the cost is comparatively extremely high per GB (~110 USD), so it's only good for low bandwidth stuff like text, small images, and high compression VOIP. Note that I'm in Canada, hence having to deal with absurd prices. In the USA it's easier to get decent cheap plans.
In Europe(or at least in my country), if a plan says it's unlimited with no other information about a cap for speed(and by that I mean fully visable when you buy it). It is unlimited. You have to provide price, speed, data cap and length of contract fully visable and easy to understand. You can't hide any of that in small print. If anything has a caveat, it's marked with a "*" and at the bottom of the page there will be a full description of what limitations or restrictions there are. If a ISP were to secretly cap speeds and have been hiding that information in walls of text, they'd be in deep shit and people could easily invalidate their contracts with them.
as somebody working in a major mobility provider, i have to say is that, if you spend more than 20gb/month, go with unlimited. limited that options ends up being more expensive if you use over data over your monthly allowance.
Thank God my ISP doesn't have a cap and it is a true "Unlimited Data". Also, I consume approx. 50GB in average per month (50% of that is CZcams) so it was actually kinda neat. And also, Wi-Fi is f*cking expensive in my country and it was only in my home. I go outside a lot.
I work in a building where I am very not allowed to connect to the WiFi for security reasons. Anything I want to do at work (or while on public transport, or while driving) comes through data. And one of the things I do is listen to video essays.
Some companies are making the unlimited plan significantly cheaper. It's the new 3 year phone contracts, and payment plans with insurance payments the whole time of those 3 years that they're squeezing money out of you.
I pay for 15 GB and generally use 8-12 a month. I think 12 was when we were traveling out of state and I might play music or an audiobook on a 5-9 hour car ride (depending on where we were going).
To me an actual "unlimited data" option is unlimited data where there is a cap but that's actually a guaranteed high speed cap, and only slows down after you reach that cap when the network is busy.
There’s just no reason to do a limited plan. Why waste any time keeping track of your usage? Limited plans made phone plans incredibly annoying as they’d often just go over and then you have to pay quite a bit more than if you just got unlimited
I completely disagree, I have a limited 5GB plan, and barely use 2GB a month. Literally because of what is stated on this video, I'm always connected to Wi-Fi. Also there are countless plans that don't charge you over the GBs they just slow your data down (like mine) and at least Android phones literally have a setting for you to set up data warnings. So there is literally no benefit unless you don't have home internet or travel a lot.
Did you not watch the video? If you only use 12GB per month, it's cheaper to get a limited plan that has a 15-20GB cap. Even if you do go over the limit once or twice per year, the extra charges will still be cheaper than what an unlimited plan would cost. Companies are taking advantage of customers not wanting to keep track of their usage.
Any phone has the capability to set a data cap either as a daily or monthly cap and will remind you when you get near it. I'm in the UK on a SIM only, no contract. I pay £10 a month for 30GB data, unlimited calls and texts and unlimited social media (Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, Pinterest, X). There is absolutely no way I need 30GB a month as I'll be lucky if I use 10GB at the most but it isn't any cheaper to get a lesser package as £10pm is the lowest that you can find.
Some companies do actually have data roll over. I also regularly use over 40gb on my phone as i don't particularly trust public WiFi, even while using vpns
.... I usually hit 35-40 GB of use a month, dispute trying to be on WiFi as much as possible because WiFi isn't available in most of the area I live, unless I'm at home all day. Which is pretty rare...
I'm from Germany and have a 50GB contract. I make heavy use of mobile data, since I stream music in FLAC (lossless), watch CZcams videos on the train, freelance, often share a hotspot and avoid public WiFi (due to captive portals and lack of OWE/IPv6). I get to about 15-30GB a month. I compared the 4 major 5G ISPs (all other are just resellers) and picked the cheapest one with the plan thats the next biggest plan/about twice of my monthly use.
My wife and I have unlimited. We know we don't need it. We spend a lot of time consuming media at home, so it's not always needed. When I spent time riding the bus, it made more sense. We also know we have a soft cap of 75GB. Even on vacation we might use 20GB max. That said, we keep unlimited because we pay $59.01 taxes and fees included for 3 lines unlimited. We've been on US Mobile for 3 years. If you're gonna pay for unlimited data, then do it the smart way.
I work as a wireless retail rep and let me tell u this, if u bring your own phone, then what they show in the video is a great advice, but if you are financing a phone with your plan, you really have no choice but to opt for a higher plan as the companies force you by making it thr only available plan to finance a phone.
Lol, I live in the Netherlands, I pay 25 euro for an unlimited plan and use around 80-100gb a month. But, then again, I never turn k wifi because of my plan
In the US, most unlimited plans cost around 65€/month. My son was using his French plan in the US that gave him 25GB/month of roaming for 20€ (plus unlimited in France), and I got him a limited US plan for 14€ so that he would have both a French and a US number. If you think mobile plans are expensive, home Internet is worse here. Most people are paying over $100/ month. I pay 52€/month for 60 Mb/s download & 6 Mb/s upload.
but like, who cares if i pay 15€ for like 50gb or 20€ for unlimited with the unlimited i pay 5€ for the added bonus of not having to keep track of my data usage (even tho thats not what i do, i usually get the cheaper plan, especially since theres super cheap non unlimited ones for under 27s)
I had an unlimited plan and used: 50-60gb per month for £26 Now I got unlimited social media, music, movies and 90gb - I use 4gb and the speed of the unlimited stuff is horrendous after 1 week. But it's all for £15 😂
In my region there's no unlimited plans anymore. I have archive plan that cost me about 10 bucks a month. Price of 40 gig/month plan is about 5-6 dollars in my area. I used about 200 gigs of internet in last month. If I wanted to find a plan that meets my needs that'll be about 5-10 times more expensive for me. And I also use my phone as a hotspot for my iPad, and getting no additional charge for that. Maybe I don't use that much of internet every month, but that cellular plan is kind of charity, I have to keep in as long as 4g internet is okay for everyday use.
For my job that has half my work connected to their special app to log in ,send emails ect. I use a minimum of 120GB a month and that's just for the work app only
I don't think I've ever seen a data plan over 6 or 8GB. Usually it jumps to unlimited for $5/m more. Last month I used 6GB of data and roughly 50GB of WiFi. I'll still take the peace of mind for a few bucks more.
I only use data for my unlimited plan because my Wi-Fi is slow at home but the data is really fast. It makes it a lot easier for me I also live in a rural community in Canada so I next and never have Wi-Fi when I'm out and about anyways been a month I'm using like 120 something GB sooo worth it

Lol you didn't even watch the video
they made my life much easier, that way I don't feel guilty about "not using enough" and can just put my phone down
Some companies do actually have data roll over.
Unlimited gas subscription would actually huge
Just use the built in data tracker in your phone.
Or your service provider's app. Then it becomes very clear if you need more
Here I am with my unlimited plan looking at the 1TB of data that I have used in the last period. Yep sticking with unlimited.
Not mentioning the fact to not connect just to any wifi it could steal data or reditect to bad websites
The reason I use 12gb is because im too scared to go over my limit
Here in India we get weekend data rollover
Unused data we get at weekends
It's an essential in a tech savy household of 3 all streaming content and working online lmao
My friend doesn't have unlimited, but like 20gb and just gets the leftovers added to the next month. He has like a few hundred GB to use now
I don't have wifi and usually get the 50 GB warning mid month
but like, who cares if i pay 15€ for like 50gb or 20€ for unlimited
with the unlimited i pay 5€ for the added bonus of not having to keep track of my data usage
(even tho thats not what i do, i usually get the cheaper plan, especially since theres super cheap non unlimited ones for under 27s)
(I use that to download stuff (cause it's way faster than my home wifi), and when I'm outside)
I’ve used 4TB since the start of September.
5 gb a month wifi provided by my home work and ramdom hotspots
They don’t offer limited plans anymore unless it’s prepaid
50 gb and month isn't over yet. I used to use more when I was in college
I had an unlimited plan and used: 50-60gb per month for £26
Now I got unlimited social media, music, movies and 90gb - I use 4gb and the speed of the unlimited stuff is horrendous after 1 week.
I have 10 gigs, and that slows down alot if I got over
I almost never use more than a couple gigs
It's dangerous to connect to networks that aren't your own...hackers can use them to take over your phone, steal your data, etc.
Always go unlimited first. Measure your uses age over a 6 month or so billing cycle. Then from there change your plan to less.
I’ve absolutely used over 20gb a month for several months
For my job that has half my work connected to their special app to log in ,send emails ect. I use a minimum of 120GB a month and that's just for the work app only
How pn earth do i use over 200GB monthly over here in Nigeria.
I don't think I've ever seen a data plan over 6 or 8GB. Usually it jumps to unlimited for $5/m more.
Last month I used 6GB of data and roughly 50GB of WiFi. I'll still take the peace of mind for a few bucks more.
Some prepaid plans do 16 gb. At least they used to.
I only use data for my unlimited plan because my Wi-Fi is slow at home but the data is really fast. It makes it a lot easier for me I also live in a rural community in Canada so I next and never have Wi-Fi when I'm out and about anyways been a month I'm using like 120 something GB sooo worth it
I use about 50GB with WiFi at home and at friends. And I am about to start doing cross country trucking so that number is gonna skyrocket.
