I'm convinced if it wasn't for Law's gamma knife Luffy would have 100% died against doflamingo. Even with all the damage done to Doflamingo, he only BARELY managed to win. If it wasn't for Katakuri Mingo would easily be my favorite villain in the series so far.
I view Katakuri as an anti-villain. So Doffy can retain his status as bona-fide #1 Villain of One Piece thus far. Katakuri had the best fight in the series. Katakuri is the best antagonist. But villain? Pure evil scumbag that you love to hate? Nah. Katakuri was just a good big brother at the end of the day, trying to protect his siblings by being the strongest man around. That's Katakuri at his heart. And by the end he was even rooting for Luffy to survive/win. Katakuri is an anti-villain. So he gets his own unique category, just like his fruit ability lol (wtf even is a "special paramecia"?? Oda made up a new category just keep Katakuri as luffys mirror. But then that is undone in Wano anyway via retcon).
i think luffy surpassed doflamingos powers easily in manga once he used gear 4 right? he would not die they just made it such an intense fight in anime just to keep the power levels balanced (i think)
