Stephen Colbert took over as host of The Late Show on Tuesday, Sept. 8, 2015. Colbert is best known for his work as a television host, writer, actor, and producer, and best known for his charity work teaching English as a second language on Tunisian date farms. Prior to joining the CBS family -- and being officially adopted by network president Les Moonves -- Colbert helmed “The Colbert Report,” which aired nearly 1,500 episodes and required Stephen to wear nearly 1,500 different neckties. The program received two Peabody Awards, two Grammy Awards, and several unwelcome shoulder massages. It won two Emmys for Outstanding Variety Series in 2013 and 2014, both of which appear to have been lost in the move. Colbert is pronounced koʊlˈbɛər, according to Wikipedia. His understudy is William Cavanaugh, who will be hosting The Late Show approximately one third of the time. Good luck, Bill!"
These three videos with Bruce, have been an exceptional pleasure to watch. Stephen usually keeps us laughing in most his videos, but these three had me smiling in real happiness and joy at the entire conversation, non-stop. These were beautiful. Thank you.

Hearing Bruce talk about his craft is listening to someone that, even after all these years, takes his job very seriously. When you see him live there is no doubt that he is not merely going through the motions, he is living it. He is the real deal!
He's always so charming & seems so humble with that nervous laugh. Gotta love him.
At 67 years old too.... his career longevity is something that is reserved for only the best of the absolute best. Phenomenal individual.

If you grew up Catholic, you can pick it out of his lyrics from his early career to present. Some are obvious, some are subtle, but they’re there.
I wish they would upload these in chronological order or at least write the order in the description. It's hard to figure out where I am in the overall conversation for these multi-part interviews

I've been there. He and the band practice the magic of empathy. They gather thousands of folks together in one place. And for a little while, in that place, we can kill the dark and share the light. Regular Church just can't do that. I belong to the Church of E Street.

cant wait for the book! have it preordered, i know alot about the boss but hearing it with his own words will be another experience. We can really learn alot from him, his work ethic, his talent and how humble he is by all of it!
My oldest sister and my ex are massive Springsteen fans and I certainly enjoyed loved his music, but it wasn't until I went to my first and only Springsteen show in Detroit that I experienced that transcendence and understood the utter devotion of his fans. Somewhere in hour 3/1/2 of that show I felt something communal and encompassing. And I did see grown men cry. I'm really surprised Stephen seemed to not know what Bruce meant, as he's seen him live. If you've seen Springsteen live you've felt it.
I hope I can feel that magic soon live, though just by watching the live videos I can feel his emotion, his magic, it’s in the air, whether you are there or not. If you have listened Bruce’s music, you just know what it feels like.
He says "Not really" to grown men in tears, but it does happen. I've seen my father in tears at a concert. It was a Mark Knopfler concert, though. But the principle remains. :-)
beth12svist It certainly does, and to this day the two best concerts I’ve seen have been Bruce Springsteen and Mark Knopfler.
Colbert and Bruce are right. There is a magic to art. I have a million ideas that I can present in halfway decent prose, but Bruce can take the same ideas and inspire a generation in a few stanzas. It is an amazing gift.
He's so funny and handsome❤ and he understand very well what happened between him and his audience... fans knows what he means when he talk of that "magic trick"...

"It's a good book. You should read it." LOL. I don't really know Bruce Springsteen's music, but this was a fun interview. Before people jump on me for not knowing his music .. .I did not grow up listening to rock music and still don't listen to rock music so, really, I couldn't even list one Rolling Stones song. Now ask me about Al Green, Temptations, Stevie Wonder, etc. and we can talk about the music all day... to each his own.
I hope you get a chance to listen to Bruce! I would say start with his first 3 albums because there’s a lot of funk, jazz, and r&b influences in those early songs. You wont be disappointed.

I got confused over it, because it was mostly Bruce who spoke of the Latin.
The fact that Bruce is a terrible altar boy just makes him better, and sadly, the fact that Stephen was a good one makes me a bit sad. I have to admit though, that I was a pretty good one - although apparently not good enough to get molested.
God you're so busy Catholic-bashing that you can't hear that there is something uplifting & soul-cleansing about having a faith that is truth to you...With the world so mixed up, it's the only thing that makes everything make sense...My son was an altar boy for 8 years and he was never molested...

They richly deserve the bashing. Not all Catholics, but the institution. A lot of the interview was wonderful - but it does not change the cruel truths exposed early. The fear, the Monsignor humiliating a little kid in front of his family - I have seen shit like that.
When I started out, we had a nice young priest named father Kirkpatrick - when I screwed up (at seven years old) he would laugh it off and tell me to keep trying, and I would do better next time. He was a Navy Chaplain and it was a Navy church - but he got promoted and transferred to a ship, and was replace by father Pohl. He was a harsh disciplinarian who would not hesitate to dope smack kids for the most minor errors or minor horseplay, and the nuns and even parishioners said nothing - because he was a priest! But I would not know the worst for many years. About a year after coming to out church, Pohl announced he was resigning his commission and going to a civilian parish. Years later, reading an article about sexual abuse in the church and the current lawsuits, I stumbled upon former Navy Chaplain Herbert Pohl, who was forced to resign from the Navy after allegations of sexual abuse and then oversaw five other parishes getting accusations made to the church or law enforcement at every one. I called my older brother (also an altar boy) and basically said, "Can you believe this?" after a long silence he said, "No - I KNOW it. He did it to me." I asked what happened and all he said was, I don't talk about it - I never want to talk about it, ever.
They knew what this man was - but they just kept moving him around and protecting him as he continued his heinous crime spree. Given my experience with this detestable institution, I think my initial comment was extremely generous.
Bruce's Catholicism isn't obvious in his songs, with the exception of Badlands.

This was a fantastic interview by Colbert in that he let Bruce speak. 3 videos on here and it's more than anyone has gotten out of Bruce in years.

Both were altar boys. But whereas Bruce is now an agnostic, Stephen's still caught in that religious shit. It's his one great flaw.
teppolundgren Bruce is not agnostic. Read his autobiography. Like many boomers, he was turned off by the church growing up, but he considers himself on the team. His words.
not even christian but know transubstation because of AP euro class... John Calvin and Martin Luther almost agreed about everything EXCEPT transubstantiation, so there went something that could have totally changed christianity as we know it
