    You are right about those Dollar Tree rubber bands. I was using them on doll sleeves where the elastic was stretched out and they just disintegrated in a short time.

    What did Mattel do with the trade-in Barbies when MOD came out and offered the trade-in? I'm sure they weren't saved, I imagine they were recycled into the new dolls... I never heard what exactly happened, I just assume the recycling/melting for new dolls. I always wonder how many #1s were destroyed!

    • @BarbieLove
      @BarbieLove  Před 2 lety +2

      I have wondered the same thing. I think they may have stored them in warehouses. I have heard of people buying out old Mattel warehouses with old dolls. But I really don’t know. Good question to try to investigate though.

      It's my understanding that the donated dolls were intended to be donated to local charity by the store that collected them. They were not returned or collected by Mattel! My cousin in Maryland traded her Bubble Cut in for a 1967 TNT! This is the research I've done since I started collected in the early 1990's.

    Great video! Took me a long time to figure out what GUAG meant! Used to drive me crazy! LOL For whoever didn't know it is.... Get up And Go from the 70's Best Buy series.
    The Platinum girls are Amazing! Nice you found a hair match for your doll! She looks Great!
    They did change hair fibers in later years, just makes a difference under hot water. Some frizzes badly.
    Some of the dolls hair oxidized over time and are highly sought after! They are not Mattel names, they kind of named them themselves, things like... lilac -blonde with purple tint, black cherry- brown with a red tint.
    The Titan repro is the first close match to the real doll, IMHO but they put the with highlight in the eyes in a different spot so if your not sure you have one that's one way to check.
    I am blessed to have a Carrot color standard my rarest and of course favorite doll! More orange than red with a brown scalp.
    Didn't know that about the rock flower fabric! Good Luck on the Auction Hope you Win!!!!!!!

    Lookin' good, Sue's Barbie love! Midge too. I'm in for the 50.57. Yes, industrial flip Midge. You can't kill it. My favorite Barbie doll is nobody elses. The bubblecut. As you know, you can't kill that one either. The no fuss, no muss, if you have a good face, looks fantastic in everything. I like to think of Barbie as a 40 year od woman (inspired from a role model in your life) with the sophistication Malibu & friends are lacking. In a certain way being a working woman in a business office like Della Street is more glamorous than being a teenage fashion model. You have to picture the life with prized everyday fashion over more shiny synthetic gowns. So you have acquired Beau Time. You know something I really like from the very beginning? I think it only cost a dollar ($1.50?), that being Cotton Casual. I saw one of your ponytails slyly modeling CC from the background in another of your videos. It is simple & refreshing, looks great on and is a real crowd pleaser for the right group of naudical people! And now back to my Sunday SBL marathon...It's one way to live youre life.

      @garywarmee4367 Před 3 lety +1

      @@BarbieLove I know that there are more bubblecuts out there thn any others. Maybe they look better on Barbie than real people because Barbie's is full of real hair over a woman who has it all teased out and sprayed. Sue, I have not focused on the Barbie's with the long hair but with the original head mold pre-1970 like the Living Barbie, etc. but yours, with the continuing great swim suits are awesome. Like the one with the long, dark flip.I think you have clarified for me that it is Superstar Barbie where I draw the line. Or did Malibu come first???

    • @BarbieLove
      @BarbieLove  Před 3 lety +1

      @gary warmee Malibu was before Superstar. I kinda think of the short Marilyn Monroe hair style, not really a bouffant. Not sure who they modeled that cut from though, Not a fan of hair spray and tease. LOL

    Howdy SUE! **Item u can buy online for pennies, read to end** As thanks for your lovely gift of effort in teaching newbies all about this craft, I wanted to give you, and your subscribers a little helpful hint. I saw early in this vid that you were working with some type of small rubber band which will stretch, and hold, but it has a tiny bit of "glue/stick" grip to it. Once you work on hair, it's SO frustrating to remove a band and find even if only 8 hairs went out of place, or stuck around the band and pulled out or snapped. So here's my lil gift (idea). I am a bit of a cowgirl on the side. And we use rubber bands in horses manes for the show ring and also days before if we want to have the mane and tail have a specific zig-zag matching "stand out" design. Well, since these are made for animals, they don't want it to pull out or snap off ANY hairs. English riders REALLY TRY for perfection in a smooth, shiny mane without any fly away hairs. So these bands are stretchy, but they are likely made of vinyl and do not have that rubber texture. They come in at least: BLACK, BROWN, CLEAR, WHITE because I've seen them. Great product, GREAT price... hang onto your socks. NOW>. Don't all go at once and buy these up leaving them out of stock and all the horse show people will be ..ARG!! and don't tell them what a steal it is or they'll triple the price. Just ENJOY.. They are 500 (Yes FIVE HUNDRED) bands to a bag. One bag current cost today $3.19. It is from State Line Tack which is one of the top 3 MAJOR Equine Supply Stores online. No business is more recognized, reputable. A few others are equal, none better. I do not work for them, never have, never will. I receive NOTHING for offering this info other than a smile knowing I'm saving people some money. If you have trouble finding them in the color you want, do internet searches for "Braiding bands equine" and the color you want. I THINK I've seen them on horses and some at Fleet Farm in orange, neon pink, neon green etc. Here's the link to StateLineTack.com page of bands:www.statelinetack.com/item/braiding-bands-500ct/SLT053916/

    When I get them clean and and am happy with their condition, how should I store them? And once clean, is there anything I need to apply to prevent cracks, tears, etc? And lastly, how best to store original clothes? In ziplocks? Open air? Thank you in advance, loving your channel..!!

    • @BarbieLove
      @BarbieLove  Před 3 lety +1

      Thank you for watching my videos🥰 I think the most important is to keep them in a clean dry space. Not in outside buildings attics, ect.. Long as your house is conditioned and comfortable to you the dolls should be fine. Some will melt around arms and legs if exposed to too much heat. I store mine in display cases, some clothes in zip lock bags. Lately I have been putting them in the original Barbie cases. I have 2 videos on that, you may enjoy 😊.

    Great video with a wealth of information. I put that small elastic on my American girls to get the bob cut hair to lay flat. I wet the hair and put it at the top of head covering the bangs too. I'm careful not to touch the eyebrows. After a week or so I snip off the elastic. Some stay nice others puff back up lol. Thankyou again!😊 BTW The reproduction TNT Barbie came in red hair. Mattel called it "Copper" like what Stacy had. I have a standard MIB that has red hair and the box says "Copper" on it. So who knows really. Rock Flowers! I loved those as a kid. They came with a record that the doll stood on the center and would spin as the groovy song played. You could get extra outfits each with a record and a cute case to store them. There was a real girl group called the Rock Flowers that did the vocals. Here on youtube you can hear the songs on the dolls records. Very cute.😊

      Transitional dolls are dolls that Mattel used left over parts to put dolls together. Once they had decided to change the doll. A Standard Barbie could be considered a transitional doll. She has the Tnt doll face. But they put her on a Barbie Midge body. They did that to get rid of bodies. I will try to do that for you. I am running behind on making videos. but keep watch.
