    Great review Nemo. Fantastic that these perform superbly at both low and high volume. This is what I'm looking for and it's not so easy to find. What about directivity? Is the good sound preserved as you move about the room or is the "sweet spot" on the narrow side?

    Dayamm.....now I want these :). They look gorgeous. Very tough to find a bookshelf with 91db sensitivity - only seen mini-towers in that range. Since these are more resolving in the mid to upper frequencies I'm guessing it would pair nicely with a tube amp or my Bakoon Amp-13R (only 50wpc @4ohm) to add some body. I tried the supermon mini, but ultimately just want a simple setup 2 channel setup without requiring a sub. These might be what I was looking for....might pull the trigger. Similar in size to the Buchard S400MK2, except 3 inches taller.

    So being an objective and subjective guy (I stand in the middle), I checked out the frequency response of this Platimon VC One provided by Mon Acoustics. Looking at the graph it looked rather flat, until I saw the scale of the graph. There are 10db dips and peaks all over the critical midrange area which show this is one heavily voiced speaker, which coincides with all the interviews with the designer of this speaker that Ive watched. Great for people who buy what sounds great to them, a nightmare for people that value accuracy. Being someone that stands in the middle of the objective and subjective crowd, I can still accept 2 or 3db of 'voicing' variations but 10db and more is just too far out my objective comfort zone. Again, I dont know how accurate the graph is but it is provided by Mon Acoustics themselves.

      @@NemoPropaganda yup, whether you are a purely objective person, someone in between or a hardcore subjective guy, this hobby caters for everyone. I just cant bring myself to pay 6 grand for something that is not even near accurate, IF those graphs are right. For me, its always good to appreciate both sides. An objectively bad speaker will sound bad when it hits the bad spot, yet an objectively good speaker like the OG R3 from KEF sounded like crap to me. Sounds good to me but measures bad? Slap myself and ignore. Sounds bad to me but measures good? Walk the fuck away. Sound good and measures great? Buy 10. Everything has to go hand in hand. Thats just me. :)

    I got so lucky a few months ago. I have been into audio from 13 years old. I have never had lots of thousands of money and if I did, I need to spend it on other thing like a newer car. So moving on , I picked up a pair of used ATC Boxer speaker untested off ebay. I picked them up from Real world studios. They had been in storage for some years. So they are unchanged as in everything is as it was and working perfect. Yes these are fairly old 33 to 35 years old. The down sides to this pair of speakers are, that they are big, ugly and extremely heavy. like need a forklift truck heavy. 4 stereo amps and crossovers are needed. But hay man, what a pair of speakers. I purchased them with the sole intention of selling them on as is or making new boxes for what works. I can not bring myself to part with them. They belong in a nigh club, a Hotel a pub, a venue because they are f+++ing loud. They also don't bother you when turned up. All of the midrange is fantastic. So here is were I am. Even if I had 10.000 grand for a pair of speaker and another 10,000 grand for amps and other equipment and I got some new stuff, I'm not convinced it will sound that much better if even at all. Another owner said the same thing. These speakers will give very expensive modern day speakers a run for there money. I love them very much.

    Hey Nemo, I’m building my next system and have selected the Platimon as my next speaker and also the Kinki ex-b7 mono blocks to power them - so watching your video about synergy gives me relief. It will be paired up to a Lumin S1 streamer/Dac. Wondering if you could talk more about sound characteristics and synergy compared to the Gallion amplifier, as I look at that previously before setting on the mono blocks.

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  Před 10 měsíci +1

      Hi Javier, your preamp and dac will be the final factor in the overall synergy, Platimon & Kinki studio both have a sound that is all about clarity so you'll want something in the chain that adds some body, for my system that's a denafrips ares2 dac. As far as the Galion versus the Kinki sound it's pretty simple. Kinki is more about neutrality and a very refined sound while the Galion is a tube amp so it's going to have more flavor, more character, etc... Galion is not neutral sounding, the top end and bass region are closer to solid state but the midrange is all tube, tonally richer & more three dimensional than any SS amp around the same price. I liked both combinations a lot. if you want the more neutral sound go for the Kinki, if you want more flavor to the sound then go for the Galion, thomas is not subtle about his taste, he likes a sharp treble region and strong bass and that's how the Galion is tuned :). Lastly I'll say this, if you are not going to use the matching Kinki pre-amp and will instead use something more affordable I think its a waste and would suggest you go for the Galion instead. The kinki exb7 are amazing with the matching exp7.

    • @javiersamayoa8
      @javiersamayoa8 Před 10 měsíci

      Hello Nemo, thank you for your reply. I’m connecting the Kinki exb7 monoblocks directly to my Lumin since it has volume control, so no preamp needed, although it could be worth adding for the sound improvement.

    • @NemoPropaganda

      no, the belladonna is not available in the US at this time so unless someone imports it theres no way to hear it. I'm guessing audioadvice only has that 1 pair, maybe they're considering bringing it to the US market. As far as the sourcepoint 10 I think we're pretty far away from seeing a speaker half the price dethrone the Platimon, the Fritz Carbon 7 has a lot of the same strengths so if you want something like the Platimon in terms of sound but it's price outside the budget the Fritz Carbon 7 MK2 SE is a great option. The Platimon was designed to go against Magico or YG, nothing cheaper will be better but personal taste can be a big factor so if you like a warm sound for example you me feel a more affordable speaker is better as the platimon is not warm at all.

      Thanks brother. I picked up a pair of SP10’s new for 2k bc who can refuse them at that price. Love the slam on these compared to previous 6.5 to 8 inch bookshelfs including Dynaudio Contour 20 (which were too laid back for me). SP10 is pulling double duty as HT as well. At 2k is it futile to think about upgrading them to something that might cost me at least double? Disclaimer, I haven’t and won’t go crazy with audio gear. Put too much into my HT to spend that much again for 2 channel. Currently using my Denon 6700 with a Hypex based amp, and the most I’d consider doing is something like a NAD 399 w/ Dirac. My room is smallish (12x14) but well treated to extract every bit of imaging, clarity, and holographic potential, but it sucks out my mids a bit in the process, so room correction helps to flatten it back out.

    What would you say is a fair/ good price for a used rel t5i in good condition?

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  Před 10 měsíci +1

      T5i? I probably wouldn't spend more than $350 on a used one personally. It's a great sub but it's a discontinued model so if it wasn't a great deal I'd rather get the newer T5X.

      @@NemoPropaganda just One more thing...😁 i ONLY listen to low/ moderate volume levels, in a small/ medium sized Room and i don't want a ton of extension down low. (i live in and apartment, so anything around 30hz should BE more than enough). i use the system 90% for music listening and i usually don't listen to bass heavy genres. do you you think ONLY One of these would be enough?

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  Před 10 měsíci +2

      @@JoseFerreira-zb7wh its hard to answer a question like that because we all have different taste for how much bass is enough but based on what you're saying I think you could be happy with a single T5i as long as your room doesn't have any major issues.

    Say im upgrading from the s400 mk2.... what should i expect?

    • @NemoPropaganda
      @NemoPropaganda  Před 10 měsíci +3

      less bass, most spekers will have less bass the the S400 MK2 so no surprise there. Overall the sound is very opposite. Platimon is more open in the treble with better sepparation, detail, more refined, and better imaging. That trend follows into the midrange that is far more expansive. S400 MK2 is a warmer sound overall so the Platimon is going to sound tremendously more expansive overall from the midrange and up. The bass on the platimon is cleaner and tighter and platimon has better low volume perormance overall.

    a no name company asking for premium $ and resale would be 25% of what you paid for them.

      Brother Thomas, you can be critical, candid, and polite at the same time you know. Every brand is new at some point and where they choose to enter the market is their choice. Do you know how many little unknown brands in hifi have $30k amps? This is common, Mon at leasts brings tremendous value, these are like YG speakers on a budget. I literally sold my Kanta No1 and bought these instead. Just because a brand is well known it does not mean they bringing value, Focal for example has become a very poor value for US customers in recent years, at least for their Kanta line and up. As far as resale value I think you're exaggerating a bit, nothing sells for 25% of MSRP in hifi on the used market unless its extremely old or damaged. And if the used price is low then that gives you an opportunity to get a hell of a deal my man!!
