    Hey about that game knights episode, you should have filmed the draft part.. that is THE most fun aspect of cube, the decisions, the social aspect.. don’t be afraid to experiment!
    Maybe even make a separate video for that portion if you don’t want to mess with the GK format

    • @noahfinney4899
      @noahfinney4899 Před 4 lety +12

      I wouldn’t be surprised if they did film it. The video was already pretty long though. Which is probably why it wasn’t included. An extended version with the drafting would be cool.

    I built a commander cube a few months ago and it’s pretty weird. Each player gets two commanders but one of them has to be a planswalker and one has to be a creature. This allows you to add to your color identity and build around multiple strategies. It’s about 750 cards and uses some cool unset cards like Urza, Headmaster. After playing a few times though, I learned is that I’m pretty bad at building cubes so I’m really glad you made this episode. Thanks Game Knights!

    20:31 I played a cube with only bulk rares once with my friends and it was honestly quite a lot of fun and made us all appreciate some of the "bulk" cards more. I even added a few of those to my decks afterwards because I ended up enjoying playing with them.
    We also made a rule that we could use up to one playset of terramorphic expanse to allow for more possible color combinations without having any untapped fixing lands that would incentivise people to build good stuff decks too much.
    Also I kinda want to build a small cube now lol

    • @GamerdevilPro
      @GamerdevilPro Před 4 lety +1

      @Adam Miller eh, you have to pay one mana to activate those which makes them a bad play T1, they are better later in the game tho because you probably don't need to sac them.
      The thing is tho, terramorphic expanse can grab any land so you are not restricted to specific shards and the mana fixing doesn't need to be perfect, running more colors should be a downside in regards to consistency.
      Also I have like 40 terramorphic expanses laying around so I just grabbed a couple of those because they get the job done.

      Yes and no. Once you've been playing a while you should have enough stuff sitting around to start. But, only by playing can you really figure out what works and what doesn't. I built mine 7 years ago, play it regularly, and it felt "complete" after about 3 years... a daunting amount of time beforehand, but now it seems pretty fast. The nice thing now is that I typically buy $15-$20 worth of stuff for each new set and can do most needed updates.

    One of the "rules" I have in my commander cube is that "all commander creatures automatically have Partner". So you're able to have up to 2 commanders without being forced to use 2 (of the too few) that actually have 'partner' written on the cards. It makes it more versatile and interesting, from my experience. I do like the idea of the conspiracy-esque cards that let you make your deck more unique because of the added effects/abilities too.

    @michaelstephens9399 Před 4 lety +10

    The most un-fun thing in a game of Commander is when one player is screwed on colors and can't really play. My group's Commander Cube solved this by giving everyone 7 cards to start their deck before drafting. Everyone gets a Command Tower, a Commander's Sphere, a City of Brass, a Mana Confluence, a Coalition Relic, a Darksteel Ingot, and a Prophetic Prism. After the draft, you're free to drop any/all of these 7, but each player has them if they need them. None of these are super impactful in terms of ramping, so green's ramp doesn't get nerfed too badly, but it seems to provide just enough fixing that it's rare to get shafted on colors.

That way if you decide to switch your strategy or add/remove another color while your in mid-draft you can do that now that you know you have another chance to draft that kind of commander.

    So I hear nobody talk about color identity. It's probably one of the best parts of normal Commander, but also a big restriction when drafting: you could see how everyone had 4/5 color decks on Game Knights. Foregoing the color identity rules entirely, mono and dual-colored commanders become viable, and drafters have an opportunity to change their color mid-draft without repercussions. Josh even mentioned some disadvantages of the color identity without addressing the rule itself
    I have a commander cube that ignores it and honestly think makes the experience better for it. I would agree that it makes the cube more like a generic draft, but that's not necessarily a disadvantage IMO.

I'm currently considering a Tiny Leaders cube, and I think I will incorporate the Crowns from Brandon's Commander cube; they seem to resolve some pretty big issues. It's still the hardest cube I've ever worked on, as I don't want it to devolve into just good stuff decks.

    Obviously making it 3000+ cards would be a lot, so maybe like two years worth of precons together. I have a pauper cube but I’ve wanted to build a commander cube just don’t necessarily have the resources to spare.

    Only use massremoval that costs 6 or more. It affects your cube in a way that everyone knows they can go all in at turn 4 to have a strong attack at turn 5, without being worried about wrath of god.

    There are websites dedicated to building cubes. The current one I am using is Cube Cobra. They also have a discord for discussing cube. When I created my cube I copied someone else's and then replaced the cards I did not have with cards I do of same colour and CMC. It worked out well.

    I built a commandercube like a week or two before the GameKnights episode came out. Drafted it 8 times now. And the last four was with Regalia. I just added some crowns and septers. I run the pre-cube commander draft. I did five cards, but added a sixth after adding some regalia(crowns and the partner tatto).
    Then I added some septers in the main cube.
    I've seen the mono green Ezuri add blue. Naya Kalemne Giants, Chulane with added red(twice). I've seen Volrath and Scorpion god be -1/-1 partners as well as Ghired and Kess as partners.
    Commander pool is 72 cards(59 commanders and 13 regalia). So 1/3 rd is used. If your booster of six has 3+ regalia you swap them out for commanders so u only have two left.

    For cube specifically, proxying is usually accepted by the way. Especially if it's high quality proxy. We have and play a vintage cube that is 100% proxy, but printed and nice looking. No need to dish out thousands and thousands of dollars for a vintage cube if you don't really want to.

    Here's my multi-colored EDH/Commander Cube. tappedout.net/mtg-cube-drafts/multicolored-commanderedh-cube/ I went a very different way. I choose to stick as close as possible to Commander. So I don't ignore color identity or the singleton rule or make custom cards, but instead ignore the only 3 packs for the cube rule and don't allow for any mono colored legendaries as your Commander. 1st round of the draft, you draft your potential commanders and then the next 10 rounds you draft your pool. The cards for the most part are all EDH staples and the power level is very high. It does take a long time to draft, however over the years this has become the favorite format of my playgroup. We only play it every couple of months for 2 reasons. 1. We have a remote player in our playgroup so he needs to be in town. 2. It takes a good amount of time to draft and setup time ahead of time as I'm constantly updating it when new sets come out.

    Have you guys thought about just getting a big box of sleeved card of the same sleeve and have a few section, ramp, creatures, removal, etc. of all different color and you can do one of two things with the box, use it to build decks that you play a few times take that one apart and rebuild differently (if you want) or around a new legend and/or build a cube if needed. I thought of this idea when I was looking at my ultra pro box, it hold about 1600 card and has different sections on the side with 4 main columns. More often then not I think that it would a fun way to play although getting the hang of one deck and mastering it is fine just save the deck list somewhere and build it again later if wanted, but I think being able to take an hour before play to build a commander deck that is new and so you don’t get board playing the same deck every time. Thoughts on this idea of play? I think it’d be a great way to play just in case you are in a play group that might be meta decking you to shut down your deck cause it is often one of the more powerful decks and pilots at the table (speaking somewhat from experience) and so I thought of this for that reason and just to have fun cause who doesn’t like building decks and discovering their own combos and how everything work. For example because I dont know if anyone else noticed this infinite colored mana combo that is similar to freed from the real, horseshoe crab plus jiang yanggu, wildcrafter with the crab having a +1/+1 counter on it with kinnan bonder prodigy in play. Thank you and please let me know what you think.

    it may be not mtg related but it's cube related.
    i kind of like to play many different card games, cause i also kind of travel a bit in my country and sometimes there is no comunity of a certain game or i arrive at a day that they don't play that game and there is nobody to play the day that i can go to play, a few years ago i found this game named Force of Will, its kind of like magic but you can't brick with your lands (mana screwed nor mana flooded) and you start with a kind of commander, kind of planise walker that kind of defines what your deck will be about(but you are not obligated to play in a color identity or a certain way, they are sort of generic sometimes), the problem i have is that the community is really small in every state that i visit so i decided to make a cube for that game and carry it around and present it as a table top game and jump-start the community so there is more people to play with.
    you talked about some ideas that helped me therory craft some issues that i have in the construction of my cube like card that are tied together and stuff like that but still i don't quite grasp how should i be balancing the archetypes or what kind of regalia should i add.
    another concept that i like you to talk is about score points, i once saw the professor talking about how he played with a custom set of cards that kept a score board depending on things on the game and even all the way to deck construction.
    thanks for the video and keep being aweasome
