When you load a save file from suikoden 1, the game changes the ''M'' from McDohl to the first letter of the name you chose back in suikoden 1. Which means that if you chose Tir, the ''M'' will be replaced with a ''T''.
@@princenoah21 Indeed, in the japanese version of the game that didn't happen, so it is very probably some kind of mistake made during the translation coding.
The TcDohl bug is a fairly well known one. The NTSC version of the game only takes into account the capital letters of your character's name from S1, and only overwrites the default "McDohl" characters from left to right without deleting the others. This means if you named your character the canonical "Tir", you will get "TcDohl" If "McDohl", you will get "MDDohl" If "MASTER", you will get "MASTER" If it bothers you, you can play the PAL European version, which was released later, and most notably fixes this bug, and points where music failed to play, (War Battle scenes, Annallee's songs). However, it will not recognize save data from the NTSC version of S1, and it plays at the lower FPS characteristic of PAL games, which makes this already long game take even longer. (Jowy/Nanami and Riou's Unite wastes sooo much time in PAL version, and you need to use them in every encounter for a long time, ugh!) So, it's a toss-up, despite the PAL being objectively more polished.
I wish we could've ACTUALLY seen the relationship between Jowy and Jillia develop :/

you can change his full name in the game by naming him all uppercase in S1, for example, if you named him TIR, in S2 he will be named TIRohl
