Many thanks for the description of the differences between the blade types! A thumbs-up for you, sir!!

Thank you, Doug. Even after attempting to Google the difference between a long blade and a long knife nib, I was befuddled. Your description is crystal clear. 💎

Doug, excellent. I did not know of the blade angle and your simple sketch at the end brings it all home. I bought a Narwhal (sp) stub for my Asvine P20. I'm keen to go the opposite direction and see what an architect or long knife nib looks and feels like in actual use. Great video, thanks.

Thanks for this informative video. The more reasonably priced nib options, the better! They all seem to jazz up your writing.

Short, yes but very interesting. So many choices to experiment with. Thanks Doug. I was at a meeting writing notes with my fountain pen (Benu Peacock Ore inked with Kon Peki) and someone was watching over my shoulder very fascinated. When I turned around he smiled and was very encouraging. I was at a tech conference so even us tech folks appreciate fountain pens and penmanship ( with a flourish)

Doug, hope my question isn't annoying but I love the Kaigalu Long Knives...may we just go with them?
    D. You're simply the best at reviews. I taught action at university and have made a living as an actor. I like to think it's your theatre training.
I'm claiming you as a memeber of the same depraved fraternity which is The Theatre -- notice I didn't spell it with a final ''r," ala Française. 😂

I love the Kaigelu long knives. I have several. And yes, theatre training is helpful for many professions! I taught Theatre in university for 35 years.

@@InkquiringMinds yep, you mentioned it! My first job was as a stage carpenter at the Coconut Grove Playhouse, in South Florida. Thence, to NY where I managed to work consistently, thank goodness, but it made a great difference to have learned / worked in technical theatre first.
So the K. Long Knives are an option with the Lemon?

  • @paulmchugh1430

This is an excellent explanation of these nibs. I am guessing a stub nib is the reverse of an architect nib. I like lone variation but has been betwixt and between on which is preferable. Perhaps a comparison of these nibs in the future?
    Thanks, Doug.

Great review! For the Tobi style 1.4-2.0 nib. Will the line thickness vary if you press harder or lighter at the same angle? Thanks!

Where does the fude nib figure in this equation? The naginata/long knife seems to function just like a fude

    • @InkquiringMinds
      @InkquiringMinds  Před rokem +1

Not really. The fude behaves more like a paint-brush.

Doug, just because it quacks like a duck, looks like a duck, swims like a duck well I guess correctly it is duck-like. However sometimes a cigar is just a cigar. Confused yet? I am! I forgot that this really doesn’t have a point, unlike a naga-knotty toga.

  • @philippebarillecavalier9275

I've seen "long knife" a few times recently, on a few listings of Chinese pens. Just as I was hoping can anyone tell us what the heck is that?
Interesting red ink. Not too dark, not too bright. Which one is this?
