  • How to charge for shrub or bush trimming work is the most asked question. Trying to figure out what to charge for hedge trimming services is not as complicated as it may seem. I'm going to explain in this srub trimming video the two ways that I used and continue to use to set my shrub pruning prices.

My minimum to show up at any trimming job is 225$ regardless of the amount or size of the shrub/s. Talk about some easy money 😃. Never charge by the hour!!!! You’re taking money out of your pocket !! The trimming in the video is a 400$ job in my area of Michigan. By the hour would have taken 300$ from the bottom line. We’re in this to make good money guys and gals. It can be demanding hot work. Get paid accordingly!!!!! Nice video. Thanks for sharing

Great info Johnny. I've been charging by the Bush & Shrub size for years. It makes it easier for the customer to understand. My price includes everything towards the cost of doing business down to the bag. I see alot folks get into this business and not charge appropriately. Great work. Gracias!

Good advice. I suggest beginners start with small projects with friends, family and neighbors. Keep good records of each task, recording time and conditions of shrubs. This will become your baseline of reference for future work.

I normally charge $35 an hour per man on site, and I add 1 hour to the total hours worked on property to cover equipment, travel/loading, office maintenance, and taxes. Also if owner wants to dispose of the material I charge $40 per dump run on top the hourly price to cover hauling time / off load.

Had to give a estimate today for 28 shrubs. 20 small ones and 8 large ones. The total is $720. Charging $20 for each small one and $40 for the large ones. This price is for Trimming/cleanup/dump fee. I usaully just stick to mowing. But trimming shrubs pays well. I'm also located in Iowa if anyone else is from Iowa. I hope the pricing I listed can help some newer guys out. I will trim them twice a season. Spring time in April then before fall probably the end of September. $1440 for the season for shrubs I'll take it.

I include the clean up n disposal in the shrub charge. Also leafy shrubs are cheaper n easier than evergreen.
Make sure n add on for inside mulch n light lava rocks cause ya cant blow it out well.

I charge by the hour for trimming shrubs, much easier, though I charge one price for using power equipment, and another price for just ordinary physical labor, like clean up. I don't like it when people ask me to estimate a price for trimming bushes, because even after 30 years in business I honestly I don't know how long it's going to take, and I hate to underestimate. Mowing is different, because I can estimate by the size of the yard and how much edging, string trimming and blowing I foresee, what price I need to charge.

I charge 65.00 per hr for power equipment pruning. Additional costs for clean up and disposal per cubic yard. In the event in fall corrective pruning instead of maintenance pruning varies on shrub size if you can figure your clean up labor including the labor of clean up it simplifies the billing and keeps less line items which inturn creates less line and looks like less items on a invoice to the customer
