    Gosh DAMN their color guard is just on FIRE these last few years and haven't let up at all. Just the skill level of every person in crusaders guard is astonishing. Loved the show, ballad gave me goosebumps, and their brass is on their way to the top. Crusaders is having their dark horse era, really starting with their SOS program.

      i think that was the most weapon work i've seen in any ballad ever. whoever wrote their guard book deserves plenty of credit too because the design was nearly as mesmerizing as the seemingly flawless performance. the energy their guard has been bringing really has been a wonder to watch. as someone who placed outside the top 5 on a year where our hornline was at championship level, the fact that they've established themselves as such an undeniable force despite the corps overall placement not being equally rewarded is truly astonishing and unprecedented in modern times. making history dating back to spirit's guard in the late 80's. (87?) especially since it's far from a one-off, more so bordering on dynastic status at this point. really attention-grabbing for sure.

    I love the idea of the huge video boards. But tbh they took my eyes off the corps. It’s like a car accident, I can’t stop watching them. Which is shame because this corps moves, tosses, and dances so well, but I miss most of it because I can’t stop watching the boards lol. I wonder how that would play into judging, particularly GE. But didn’t matter for 2021. Thank you BAC for yet again bringing excellence and innovation to the field.

    • @KyleNally
      @KyleNally Před 2 lety

      I think it was the placement that was the issue. They could have- should have- placed the boards closer to where the general focal area of the field was across the entire show. Rear center (not of the field, but the general rear center stage area of all sets cumulatively) would have worked. You're right; it does force the eye to move away and that's a shame.
      I do have to say though- they pulled it off convincingly. It did work, it was just in the wrong place on the field.
      What I'd really like to know is the logistics of the videos themselves. How were they timed? *Were* they timed at all, or was someone manipulating playback start/stop and possibly keyframes during the live performance? I'd think prerecording them wouldn't necessarily work so well- but then, they do know the lengths of the parts of the show to within probably eight to ten seconds given time constraints for a single show. Then again, again, the last four notes of the first part were absolutely in sync almost perfectly with the video, and those animations could have been controlled live.
      Or could they? How exactly does this sort of thing work on the field? I'm guessing someone here could answer but I don't know who to ask.

    Those screens kinda defeat the point of drill, because half of the time I'm looking at the screens instead of the corp's formations, which is, you know, something that Marching Band/DCI is known for. (Not to mention that awesome color guard that Boston has!)
    Kinda reminds me of Crown a few years back... They used a singer for their ballad, despite the fact that Crown has an incredible brass section, as we all know. That really took away from the show just like the screens tool away from this one.
