    “Power to the Princess” will be my Motivational Phrase for the next few days I reckon 😊 - Ive repurposed some of those older buildings in my Goods Yard and Royal Mail bay, to accept the Regular Hornby (much more available) transparent station canopies and they look Fab 👍🏻 Your Progress has Really come on at a pace and is Even closer to becoming Every 1960’s Schoolboy Dream - Great Work and Thanks for Sharing OP 👍🏻🙌🏻✨

    Hi Oscar,
    Great running session, warts and all but that’s model railways.
    High level station looks superb now that it’s populated as do the girder bridges even without their cross pieces 😀
    Good model engineering on the HD track and trouble shooting on the dodgy bogie.
    I am in the Sun just now, not the UK one, and suffering withdrawal symptoms from the layout, a lot of thinking and planning going on. I can multi task so I don’t think it’s too obvious…famous last words 😂.

    I share your difficulty with derailments. I just spent the best part of the evening trouble shooting derailments and random uncoupling on my Dublo 3-rail layout. With enough testing and observation you can usually get to the bottom of things and solve them, but boy it sometimes takes a long time to figure things out !

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  Před 11 měsíci +1

      Good morning Robin, as they say that's all part of the fun... But there is a very rewarding feeling when things just run as they should. I have a late 70s version of the Jinty in Maroon, it would not run backwards over a set of points in the longer sidings on the system 6 railway I chased the back to back in and out matched it with a black variation of the same model which had no problems, spent hours with it, I got it to a point where it would behaved most of the time! Nothing else, multi wheeled locomotive, steam and diesel and great long rakes of coaches or wagons would go forwards and backwards with no problems whatsoever across this particular standard point but that particular model of the Jinty going backwards could never be 100% reliable.
      Thanks again.

    All good fun and the railway progressing nicely. Regards the back canopy on the booking hall, I had a red brick one which was second hand and the canopy went in ok, as you let go it dropped. When put in the passing loop first train clattered into it. Over came the problem by adding a plywood base, which worked. not sure if it was an issue when introduced or just wear and tare.

    When I was watching this video I finally realised that you now have a way of turning trains on both the Hornby 3 Rail and now the Series 3 as well. What a handy thing. I was thinking about the station canopies and wondered if it would be simpler to 3D print the rear canopies just a little shorter so that they don't stick out so much. It might be easier than creating ones that tilt upwards. Says she who has never 3D printed anything in her life 😄

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  Před 11 měsíci

      Good morning Pauline, thanks for watching, possibly I've gone a bit over the top with ability to turn trains around on both systems, but quite entertaining. Never had a return Loop before this railway. You're right shorter canopies are going to be the way to go, But the undertaking to make a fresh drawing for either shorter or angled will be quite some work for either way or combined... Apart from the general inconsistencies and misbehaviour of a domestic grade budget 3-D printer, it's the drawing I find is the more time-consuming / challenging aspect than actual printing process.
      Take care.

    Hello Oscar, and a very good Sunday morning to you. Hope you're keeping well. It's Martin from Hull in the East Riding of Yorkshire. Well this mornings video was very interesting and informative as always. Your layout is getting better every time i see it. 👍 I love the station buildings on the over head station platform. I love these buildings, I think they are the best Triang Hornby have made, and i like where you have put the tunnel. That was good how you worked out what caused the derailments and the solution to the problem. Oh yes, and I thought it was great that you made some chimney's for the station buildings, I've noticed that most second hand station buildings sold have their chimney's missing. Great to see your wonderful trains gracefully gliding the rails . Truly a wonderful developing layout. Well as usual I am going to have a cup of tea and a toasted tea cake. Stay safe Oscar and I look forward to the next video. 🙂👍🚂🚃

      Good morning Martin, thank you again for looking in and the very kind words, great to hear you enjoyed all the action with the various trains running and a look at the provisional placing of the buildings. They are quite lovely items, as you say the chimneys always seem to be missing, but at arm's-length, I think the 3-D printed replacements are just a job.

    Great start to Sunday as usual Oscar. The layout is really coming along now. The Princess looks fabulous running around and you’ve done some great detective work on the emu derailment. Good morning Oscar, what a exciting start to the morning! The cobo charging around and the Dutchess delivers and collected the mail. The station on the elevated section is looking great and with the walling now completed we can see the effect you have been after, I do love the whine of the dmu wheels over the track, it almost reminds me of the noise of the underground. As you say the Princess is a stunning model always enjoy seeing her running, I'm glad you've solved the problem of the jumping coach, you've always got to be a detective. Interesting to you say what terrible weather you're experiencing at the moment, where I'm watching end first week in September in 31deg of heat and sunshine. Great session Oscar. Good morning Eddy, glad you enjoyed the action on the railway. Yes it's been very warm here, especially last week almost southern European warm! However, very cool and damp at present. The summer wasn't really very summer here at all, late May and June was very warm here for a couple of weeks or so, but as soon as the schools and colleges began to break for the summer the good weather vanished.

    Try soaking it in original dettol to remove the paint from the canopy, I’ve used it to remove paint from several Triang models with great success 👍

    • @EsotericArctos
      @EsotericArctos Před 11 měsíci

      Dettol may work, though if Acetone hasn't worked, likely it won't. It's the alcohol content in Dettol that softens the paint. Can get the same effect using isopropyl alcohol also. That might be something to try as most modellers will have isopropyl alcohol around for cleaning purposes, but looks like that paint may be quite stuck.

    • @Jules-zo3ds
      @Jules-zo3ds Před 11 měsíci +1

      You'd be surprised. Soaking in Detol for 24 to 48 hours will remove that paint but it must be Detol not a different brand. Also it won't distort the plastic but will start to stain it if left in too long. I've removed thick enamel paint with Detol but it can get a bit messy. Newspaper and gloves are recommended.

    Hi Oscar ,,Once again another great video and good to see your railway coming along nicely.
    I absolutely love the station buildings you have on the elevated section.
    I suppose I dont have to tell you that the princess derailed on the closed points haha but we on this side of youtube also have the benefit of hindsight and rewind feature haha.
    I also had the thought that maybe you could make a like a stepped up section that the station buildings can sit inside of or on so they can be lifted up higher as in like 3 or 4 rows of bricks and put them under the staion buildings for the station buildings to go up a bit higher to keep the awnings from hitting on the lower side or maybe even put a few lengths of beams under the platforms to raise the height of the platform and the awnings. Anyhoo just a thought as it maybe easier to write a program for straight bits of plastic on your 3d printer than making the new awning higher due to the awning angle upwards to get the rigjt amount of clearances.
    Anyhoo keep up the good work there m8 its looking good.
    Cheers from John in Australia.

    Great running session this morning! I love thé Co-Bo with the Liverpool Cables (as I have mentioned before!) it makes a lovely looking freight train. The high level station looks great. Dare I suggest a narrower canopy on the far side rather than angling it up? The Princess derailed because the points were set against it. You can see it just before the train derails.
    Regarding the EMU derailment, try other coaches to see if the track or a rogue vehicle is the issue.

    That canopy is definitely designed for a rear station exit. Your idea of printing one, with the mount at a slight angle, maybe 20 degree, could work to goive you just the right clearance for both diesels and steam locos. The stations and buildings are looking really good.

      Good morning David, thanks for looking in again. I would like to have had a tunnel on the railway in a fixed position but it does eat up quite a lot of space. I think that's the problem with many of those Tunnels sold as accessories they look great on a circle of track on the carpet, once the track becomes more complex, I found you soon run out of space to incorporate them.

    Hi Oscar, I am amazed at the performance of the Princess, and in particular it's Tender? If I had tried to reverse any of mine up that hill, I'm sure that their Tenders would have derailed pushing the Coaches??
    The EMU derailment cause is exactly the same as I have experienced on a similar model's "trailer car" rather than the mid-coach. The Bogie corner would "just" snag on the bodywork, as the rail angled upward into an elevated section? You were fortunate to just file it down.. I had to swap the bogie (slightly warped) for a replacement? Unfortunately, my replacement had to come all the way from England.. Few spares are available in Tasmania?
    Nice to see the "upper" station progressing... People must climb up the pathway on the side of the tunnel (now that you have moved it ) to reach that station. I was wondering how they got to the upper level? Ha-ha...... Great fun .. Thank you..

    • @oscarpaisley
      @oscarpaisley  Před 11 měsíci

      Good afternoon Robin, thank you again for taking the time to watch. The Princess is definitely a really lovely locomotive to run. I was quite surprised at the EMU centre/suburban coach jumping off, having had it on the railway for some weeks now whilst installing the track and the side walls running all sorts of tests, possibly why I suspected track as an issue to start with! maybe I just never ran it that way round! Who knows? I had a similar problem with several of the mid 70s Pullman coaches on the super 4 layout as they came down into the third radius curve, I ended up putting a spacer on the bogie pivot between the bogie and coach, some were affected and others weren't.
      I believe the passengers destined for that particular high level platform use an early form of teleportation in development in the early 60s for short range change of location/elevation to reduce the need for the mechanical complexities of an elevator or escalators enabling the positioning of platforms in transit systems in more convenient and previously inaccessible places, from what I've read it requires no infrastructure, it just requires visualising in the minds eye, however, it was found to be very energy intensive in tests proving to be not economically viable to pursue, as far as I know this is the only station where its still used, although variations of it have been used in popular sci-fi writing and film for over a hundred years.
      All good fun.

      Hi, thanks for watching, I'm not sure I will ever switch over to DCC it does have some very appealing qualities, but does seem to present just as many interesting problems as running with a straight DC, especially with vintage model railway items, I did have a play with Hornby's early attempts at Digital command control, Zero 1, again has lovely qualities but also brings a host of interesting problems to resolve, many of which have followed through into the contemporary the DCC systems marketed today.
