- When trying to create a well-planned, camping vacation itinerary, nothing is more frustrating than first-come, first-served campgrounds. Especially when it comes to the popular National Park system. On a recent trip to Bryce Canyon, I got to experience this first hand but thankfully discovered a great fallback plan.

Bryce Canyon National Park is a destination visited by over 2 million tourists in 2018. But what happens when you travel the distance to this remote location and the campgrounds inside the park are full? Today's episode addresses this and provides you with information in case you find yourself in this predicament as well.
At present, Sunset Campground and North Campground are undergoing construction and on a first-come-first-serve basis during 2019. This may cause a kink in your plans should you find yourself wanting to visit Bryce Canyon National Park. Thankfully there are other campgrounds in the area.
Ruby's Inn RV Park & Campground is the closest campground located 1 mile from Bryce Canyon National Park. If you are traveling with an RV, camp trailer, or camper... there are 150 full hookup pull-through sites for you. Tent campers will find 35 sites available to them. Looking for adventure? Try one of the 10 tipis on the campgrounds!
Included in your nightly rate are free Wi-Fi, hot showers at no extra charge, an outdoor heated pool & hot tub, and clean restrooms. Extra facilities include a laundromat (open 7am-8pm), a camper store with RV & camping supplies, and an RV dump station.
Bagged ice & firewood can be found should you need them for your stay. Hot meals are served at Ebenezer's Barn & Grill, which features live music and entertainment. The Canyon Diner offers pizza and sandwiches.

Welcome to the Cactus Atlas! We are Glenn and Amy and invite you to join us as we visit all sorts of locations across the American West. We tour both natural and man-made attractions.
Our base of operations is in the Phoenix, AZ area. We do a lot of hiking and day trips as well as campground reviews and hope that we will be a great resource if you are planning a trip to the American West. We also hope to delight you with our exciting adventures!
If the campgrounds are full up, there are always plenty of lovely shaded boondocking sites with campfire rings off the junction of FR090 and FR088. It's about a 2 mile drive from the park, and a high clearance vehicle is recommended. Turnoff is just north of the big Bryce Canyon NP sign. We saw a pronghorn the first morning there!
Thanks for the great info! I look forward to getting back out that way, and will definitely check that out!
Great info! Thanks for an enjoyable tour!
Our pleasure! Glad you liked it! 😊👍
Very informative. Thank you. I am looking into working at Ruby's Inn in a trade off for RV camping for employees at the INN. Thumbs up.
Thanks for watching! That sounds like a really ideal trade to be honest! Best of luck!
Super helpful in planning my trip. Thanks!
So happy we could help! Have a great trip! 😄👍
We stayed there at Ruby’s campground in 2016, loved it! We were so happy with the clean showers
We were pleasantly surprised by the campground! While we were hoping to camp inside Bryce (and still hope to some day) it really is a great alternative!
Hello Glenn,
My wife and I just arrived at Rubies campsite and we really appreciated your tips. In particular, the nearby bus stop for the trip to Bryce Canyon was a great reason to stay here. Thank you for this and the many other interesting videos you make. Best regards from Martin and Miriam from Germany!
Thank you! So glad it video was helpful. 😄 Can't tell you how disappointed Glenn was when he missed the last site at Bryce. Ruby's just turned out to be such a lucky find. Hope your Bryce trip is amazing!
Great video…. Really thorough which I like. Thanks for all the detail. We are RVers so would be good to see more of that side but you can still get a really idea. Nice job!
Thanks! We tend to cater more towards tent campers as that's what we do and have trouble finding on CZcams ourselves. Unfortunately we don't have RVs but we try to include information pertaining to them in camping videos as much as we can (and our very limited knowledge allows). 😅
Looks like a decent enough place, happy trails!
Yeah, it wasn’t bad at all. Nice fallback!
As far as "Plan B"s go, this one seemed alright. It's good to know you don't have to worry about wasting a long drive with no backup plans!
Right? Honestly when Glenn called me saying that the campground was full my heart dropped. Same thing happened recently when he went to Valley of Fire. It's really hard for people who aren't local to make the drive and not be guaranteed a campsite so the fact that there are options out there really helps.
🤠👍
went to bryce canyon back in 2019. stayed in the antimony mercantile. want to go back and see saydee the friendly deer :)
Actually never heard of this place! I see they have tent sites. Would you recommend it? And tell me about this deer!
@@CactusAtlas I would definitely recommend it. One of the most fun times I've had in a while. Also about saydee the deer, I wrote a comment about it in great detail but it took a while on mobile, so basically around evening and morning saydee will roam around the town and Let you pet her. The first time I saw her was in the school's playground. She'll walk up to you, She's really friendly
For the area $40 a night ain't bad at all & I've seen worse for more. Hope there wasn't much noise from the rv area.
So, are you saying there is lots of traffic in Bryce? You mentioned not driving in the psrk.
Yes, when I was there, traffic was horrible and parking was difficult. I got stuck in one parking lot for 20 minutes or so just trying to get out. Observed several situations like that during my visit there. Rangers would try to usher vehicles through to keep traffic moving but it was pretty bad, especially as the day moved on.
What time of day was it when you tried to snag a campsite at Bryce? How early do they start taking reservations at Bryce? Good to know there's a plan B close to the park.
I got there around 10 am if I remember, and the ranger said that had I arrived a few minutes earlier, I may have gotten a site.
It’s possible that they have opened up the campgrounds for reservations on recreation.gov, but at the time, the reservation system was disabled. I think on recreation.gov, they open up reservations months in advance. Recommend doing that to be safe.
You forgot to mention theres a pool and hottub to.
Does the restaurant at Ruby's Inn still serve Redmond brand Real Salt?
Unfortunately Glenn did not eat at the restaurant and has not been back so we're unsure. So sorry!
Looks luxurious to me. I camp BLM dispersed ROFL (but mine's free)
It's not a bad campground at all! It's a really good alternative for those who really had their hearts set on camping in the park (like us) & want the perks that come with it.
when were you there?
This would’ve been in September of 2019.
***WARNING Bad Dad Joke at the **7:58** mark :P ***
Yep. We love us some bad jokes and puns!
Too jerky with your camera made me dizzy.
Fair enough. This is an old one back when we first started. I agree with you. Let us know if you think the content of our last couple years corrected the issue. We added a motorized gimbal a few years back.
Not a techie but as I understand "secure public wifi" is an oxymoron.
You're not wrong. 😉
