The thing that struck me about this film when I saw it (aside from, well, everything) is that the main story seems to end around 2 hrs and 15 minutes in, but the film continues on for another 45 minutes like it's a partial sequel or extra long epilogue. I loved that!

Luke mentioned that the film was originally released as two films but combined as one in the end so that might be where the original break was

Thank you so much for covering this amazing film. It's really a one-of-a-kind epic, and so well shot, too.
I was lucky enough to visit Taiwan in April. I went to Taroko (or Tailuge) National Park while I was there, and it was a real pleasure to watch this movie and immediately recognize Taroko in the mountain scenes. That has to be one of the most breathtakingly beautiful places I've ever been to.

It's nice watching a video about the asian cinema by a person who is from Asia. Good to see his point of view. Great video guys! Greetings from Brasil!!

It was originally one movie, but the studio made King Hu cut it in two parts. Later they made a two hour cut that flopped even worse than the two-part film.

I believe that, this movie would be so weird if it was cut down to two hours m
