The 2018 CTS requires a reprogram whenever you install a new battery and I imagine the ATS is the same way. If you don't then your alternator will constantly be overcharging your new battery.

That is very interesting. I have kept an eye on the battery voltage and it has consistently stayed at 14.2 volts while running. It has been over a year since the instal with zero issues but I will check with the dealership next time I’m in. Thanks for watching

I just put a new battery in the 2018 CTS. I had batteries plus reprogram the car through the OBD port with a special tool that they have just for registering/programming certain late model cars for new batteries. On my drive over to the store the alternator was putting out 15 volts. After the programming it stayed that way for a few miles and then it dropped down to the mid 12 volts range. The technician mentioned that most of the cars that require this are BMW and Mercedes but some GM cars as well. The ATS might not need it.

When your car did not start did it make a click click click noise?

No clicking noise, it was spinning or turning over just not as fast as normal. I actually noticed my power windows were really slow to start going up. That was my first clue.

Do you let it sit 4 hours after the programming steps?

Actually I took the vehicle for a test ride first then let it sit overnight for around 7-8 hours then started it up and went to work. Start stop function worked perfect.

100% agree but in all honesty it wasn’t as bad as it looks.

Yeah it’s not like I can’t pop my trunk because the battery is dead
