i really hope you are going to watch the anime at some point...
hearing the music and seeing all those characters move around and speak is magical especially when watching the first time.
for me its more than nostalgia the east blue saga is highly regarded and praised even among one piece critics and some haters...just avoid the 4 kids version.
@@cmbaz1140 He is only watching the anime for specific scenes that are suggested to him.
Don't worry about the length of these videos. One Piece fans are the last group of people that would complain about stuff like that. It's enjoyable listening to the full breadth of your thoughts on each arc, so the more in-depth the better.
Riiiiight
The more content the better
I listen to these at work so make all 8 hours of my day fly right by please
Would you say.....the more, the Merry-er? 😉
Over 1000 episodes and chapters and it's still good
Pandaman is Oda's version of Where's Waldo. Just a little guy who if you can spot him in a background or scene it's just like a little Easter egg.
he actually designed the character back when Kinnikuman had a contest for fans to create wrestlers for the series. I think he was a kid at that point.
I believe in the Japanese prints of the volumes, he’s got his own story going on underneath the volume cover. These stories aren’t in the English editions and have never been officially translated. I believe summaries exist on the wiki though.
Nice red herrings..
Spoiler:
we know now that the one piece is literally a one piece Panda suit currently owned by shanks, who uses it to stalk luffy
You say that now. Just you wait. Pandaman is gonna be the final boss
In the final chapter they'll meet pandaman, they'll have the most epic fight and then pandaman will be the last strawhat to join.

What's interesting about the Baratie arc, is that since Nami leaves and Ussop and Zoro go after her, Luffy is actually left alone without his crew. And because of that, Sanji is in a sense the "second" first crew member that Luffy recruits. And the dreams of the two first members, Zoro and Sanji reflect the two sides of Luffy's dreams. Zoro shares the conviction part, of having a dream that directly puts him in conflict with the strongest guys in the world that they need to overcome to become either the Pirate King or the strongest swordsman. On the other hand, Sanji shares the dreamer aspect, of wanting to find this place or thing of legend, that may not even be true, that you need to believe in harder than anyone else, to even consider that the journey to find it may be worthwhile.
Use #AJPiece in this comment! He might respond to it and it's a good one.
A Morj enjoyer I see
@@stevenpeeckford5999 Thanks mate, I edited it
THIS COMMENT WAS GREATO
Spoiler kinda !!!
This also is reflected later on when these three are the monster trio and Zoro and Sanji have that intense rivalry
For anyone wondering, the next review (Arlong Park) just hit Patreon and it's 1 hour and 42 minutes. Lmao
lol so the arc after will be 2 hours
Thinking by the time he catches up it’ll be like 4 hour videos 😂 not complaining tho I’ll watch every minute of it
The Loguetown one will be shorter to give him a break lol
I think even with loguetown he'll manage to make it 1 hour lol
Awesome!
One of my favorite lines in all of One Piece is Mihawk telling Zoro "I'm not the kind of person to hunt a rabbit with a cannon" when he pulls out that tiny knife to fight Zoro. I'm glad you're enjoying the series so much!
Sanji is a fantastically written character, aside from the nosebleeds
it was totally fine but man does it get annoying. such an easily avoidable flaw but oda must think it's the funniest thing ever
@@meatbleed its not a flaw and its pretty funny lmao
I honestly really wanted the near end of whole cake island to "fix" that with some memory manipulation. Christ, if it wasn't for the unending nose bleeds, he'd probably be my favorite character after that arc
I still like him, but he is not in my top characters anymore. From Triller Bark it went all down for me. WCI did a lot for him but I can't like him anymore like I did in the beginning in the story
@@hellothere4380 sometimes
My favourite thing about these reviews is how you don't *TRY* to be a "critic." You don't LOOK for things to dislike like other people on CZcams do. You just go in and enjoy and talk about you find interesting. I love that.

1:02:44
I think the bigger reason why Luffy is mad at Sanji is not because of his value to life but rather because he himself was saved by Shanks and he knows Shanks wants him to be his own man and to achieve his own dream, and seeing Sanji disregard his own life to protect the old man's treasure restaurant ship definitely irked Luffy there
#AJPiece Fun fact: The anime changes Sanji's backstory slightly by having his leg cut off while saving Sanji from the wreck. As I initially began OP with the anime, I was surprised to learn the manga implies he ate his own leg. I find the manga's interpretation to be much more powerful of a sacrifice on Zeff's part and much more impactful for Sanji.
Hell yea! I look so forward to your One Piece reviews. I've seen a million of them and you're definitely unique and insightful in a way most aren't. Thanks for putting them out there.
My pleasure, thanks for watching!
@@Aleczandxr same here, cannot wait for someone like you who pays proper attention to get mindblown like never before lol you're in for a ride my friend
To me when I first read the arc Sanji's insistence in feeding people no matter what without judgement immediately gave me "Hippocratic Oath" vibes. He's a cook first and foremost and in his mind cooks simply feed people and only after that basic need is covered, does anything else start to matter.
The length of these are slowly getting bigger and bigger when we reach Wano we getting 3 4 hour videos 😭. Keep up the great videos man.
He’ll definitely be needing to split the arcs into multiple vids down the line
@@ramenpower8097 He said he is going to do that when the time comes.
He will be doing 12 Hours on Just Sogeking, much less Wano.
honestly, I feel like with everything going on in Wano, and with just how big the arc is I feel like that's 10 hours.
It’ll be interesting to see how it plays out for Wano. Simply because the themes have been so much less focused and tightly written in comparison to an Enies Lobby or Marineford or even WCI for that manner
AN HOUR!? Bruh you are blessing us right now. Hour Long analysis of One Piece? This is a gift.
I don't know what he's gonna do when arcs start getting longer
@@jalapenoofjustice4682 He is going to divide them up and make multiple videos for an arc with good stopping points
Baratie was the arc that truly hooked me ever since I've loved One Piece not to mention our stylish cook Sanji gets added to the crew and had a dope backstory with Best Dad Zeff also Mihawk being introduced is nutty being a Shichibukai and flexing on Zoro with a butter knife but Zoro declaring he'll never lose again is awesome too
You might get to this later so I might be jumping in too quickly, but at 46:20 ish I feel like it’s important to note the distinction between “give up on your dream” versus “give up on following your beliefs/ideals”.
In Sanji’s eyes, dreams would refer more to personal ambitions that he would give up for the sake of others (Zeff), meanwhile ideals/beliefs would be something that he’d uphold regardless of the circumstance (feeding people like Gin or Kreig despite the danger to himself).
Oh I’m aware of the distinction, but thanks!
Rereading this part and seeing Zeff refer to the Grand Line as "paradise" is neat, to say the least. Don't even think about making these videos any shorter because the arcs just keep getting bigger and denser.
Well to be fair, it's a lot of work the longer the videos are so he's talked about splitting them within arcs for the bigger ones. Otherwise it would just get ridiculous.
dude this is not a very constructive comment but you sound so gentle, you have a very appeasing aura. I love those videos of people discovering One Piece for the first time

"Ever heard of the All Blue?"
I really hope you're reading all of the cover stories, don't forget! Can't wait to watch this.
I’m not forgetting!
Sanji is arguably the most emotionally deep member of the Straw Hat crew. He has highs and lows as a person, but affects as others as much as they affect him.
Man imagine the feeling, right after the hook of Sanji's backstory.. wanting to finish it, just thinking 'screw it I'm reading it all!' That's how the serie is making me feel for over 9 years now, every friday it's rekindled whenever I open the new Chapter.. Amazing series, love it that you're liking it that much!
Sanji is easily one of my favorite characters. That moment where Zeff cuts off his leg so that he could survive, and so Sanji could eat the rest of their rations still really gets to me.
#AJPiece, Though I doubt he would ever admit it, I think Sanji seeing Zoro willing to die for his dream was a major turning point for his character. He had put his dream of All Blue, something that was so important to him, on hold for his entire life, dedicating himself to repaying his debt to Zeff rather than be who he and who Zeff want him to be. He always wanted to leave, but he never could as long as he thought Zeff still needed him. While Luffy is the one who invited him, Zoro is actually the one who inspired him to go to sea, the one who challenged his beliefs and showed him that there is nothing more important than actually following your dream.
Edit: Turns out I need to watch the whole video before commenting, you basically already covered this reading in the video. Oops.
Off topic, but one of your other comments was used for the Arlong Park AJPiece comments. Congrats
@@kollmack869 I didn't know that, that just made my day.
Congratulations, you've reached one of the turning points. The Zoro vs Mihawk fight is one of the peak One Piece moments and it remains one throughout the series.
I love these long form videos, it helps the long work day go by a lot easier, plus we’re one piece fans, if anything we are patient and enjoy long pacing
#AJPiece
Sanji's flashback was the first time I teared up in One Piece. There's just something about the way Oda draws Sanji as a kid that makes you care about him immediately. That scene of him counting the time he can survive with the food he has combined with that art really stands out to bring across the message in the classic Oda way of extreme, hyperbolic depictions of character building.
Super nostalgic going through this series from the start with you🙏 Baratie was a great arc... The arc that made me get fully invested in OP
I found your Chanel after watching FMA and your take on scars I enjoyed every second of it. I've been following One Piece since early 2000's. I'm very happy and I appreciate you making these videos for us "One Piece fans". Keep up the good work! 👍
Thank you!
#AJPIECE
The sanji farewell scene is the first time zeff and sanji call each other by their names. They are totally unfiltered in displaying emotions for the first time in the current time line
Baratie is that arc when you start realizing that OP world is much bigger even than it already seems.
Man, this was a great discussion!
I'm experiencing One Piece since 2003 but I took me unbelievably long to express stuff about the story like you did there.
You basically hit the mark with most things. I'll write here a bit of my interpretation that you didn't cover .... since well it's my interpretation. :D
You mentioned a lot, that pride plays a great role in this arc, especially for Sanji. I think that's valid, but I also think another very important theme here is integrity & ambition. And through Zoro and Luffy Sanji acknowledges that he kinda held back this part of him for a long time.
Zoro shows his ambition in the fight with Mihawk and his integrity when he doesn't run, but instead acknowledges his loss. I'm specifically thinking of Zoro's line that wounds on the back are a shame for a Swordsman.
Luffy shows his integrity by defeating Creek, a villain with no integrity, who uses cowardly tactics like poison, lying and trickery to defeat his enemies, in a certain way. Instead of going straight forwardly to Creek's face, Luffy handicaps himself by destroying Creek's spear and armour. He could have ended the fight much quicker, but by destroying the weapons Creek is so pride of, he shows Sanji that by sheer willpower it's possible to hold on to ones integrity and stand by ones dreams.
That's also a reason, I think, Usopp plays a minor role in this arc. Usopp doesn't have much integrity yet. He's characterized by his cowardice and the will to overcome it. Since it's the very beginning of the story, he is of course far from that goal of his.
Important for this might be also an interview Oda had where he's talking about what one of his favourite stories - Dragon Ball -is about. To Oda Dragon Ball is a great deal about manliness and I think that's something he tries to implement in One Piece by putting his own spin to this theme and how certain characters can express manliness. And to me this is clearly shown in this arc. Zoro's ambition, Sanji's chivalry, Luffy's willpower, integrity and pride in general or Usopp's courage in Syrup village - these are all things that get expressed.
As you probably see by know, it doesn't counter anything you said. I just wanted to add my interpretation here. :D
A few correction:
Zeff didn't encounter Creek in the Grandline, Creek only heard legends about him.
Not sure if you mean this literally but Yosaku and Johnny aren't brothers.
And one thing, I think is brilliant that you actually pointed it out.
You said that Sanji inherited Zeff's will and legacy just like Luffy inherited the same things by Shanks.
Since you've finished Logue Town by now, you might know how much of a core aspect this is to One Piece. You didn't literally state that dreams belong here too, but inherited will, dreams and legacy are essentially the thematic core of the whole series.
I'm can't believe to directly pointed it out here before you read the narrator text box in chapter 100 at the beginning, it's incredible.
That all said, have fun with you're One Piece journey. I'm always in chat when I can manage to do so.
Been looking forward to this, glad you enjoyed Baratie as much as I hoped you would. I had a huge grin the entire time you were speaking about Zoro vs Mihawk, it's very special to hear someone else so eloquently and enthusiastically talk about their enjoyment of something you love, thanks for posting these!
You’re very welcome!
I’m really enjoying going on the journey again through your perspective and seeing that you are enjoying these early arcs. From this point forward I think the story gets a lot better so I know you are going to enjoy it.
Also I like that the videos are getting longer! Keep them coming man!
Marineford video will be a movie lol
Hope you do a video of your character review of the straw hats once you have been introduced to all the crew just like what you did with HxH, Haikyu etc.. Your Pouf, Chrollo and Meruem reviews are still the best I've watched on CZcams. Keep up the good work man.
Like I’ve said in the first couple of videos, there won’t be any edited One Piece videos. But I’ll continue making these of course, and you’ll hear my thoughts in these! Glad you enjoy them.
"I love found family" oh hoh. This review series is gonna be a blast
Ah , Sanji , the 2nd biggest foreshadowing machine in the crew right behind Usopp
nice to see you catching up with one piece
im sure your future essay videos of the series will be amazing
He already said a bunch of times that he will not make any video essays on One Piece.
@@kollmack869 what’s the reason ?
People who recognise the brilliance of luffy right from the get go are a rarity. Even I didn't think of luffy as anything special for a very long time. However, once you look back it was all there right from the start. Merphy was the one who made me realise that luffy has been a special character right from the start.
I think it can depend on the person and what they like/value too. Luffy has been my favourite since the very beginning.
If I remember the main reason they refused Gin was because he had no money. Patty will let a customer walk across his back to enter the restaurant if they asked him to lay down, but once he discovered Gin would not be a paying customer he kicks him to the curb. The aspect of feeding a person being a truly dangerous move comes a lot more into play when Gin brings Krieg inside.
Small clarification, pretty sure Zeff just knew about Krieg because he was a decently notorious Pirate in the East Blue. Krieg's trip into the Grand Line was as embarrassingly short-lived as it was disastrous, while Zeff actually sailed the Grand Line with enough success that his log book would be a valuable asset to the out-of-his-depth Krieg.
My favorite line in this section is from Mihawk where he tells Zoro "Time you learned how big the world is."
Feel no need to strive to be concise! Everywhere in One Piece are little moments that are precious to different people, so the chance for one of those moments to be noticed and appreciated by you as well is something folks love to see.
I do hope Loguetown gets it's own video before Reverse Mountain. Short, but so very sweet.
Loguetown is getting its own video. Also I would edit this and put in #AJPiece so he potentially reads it in his future video, this is a great potential comment for that.
@@soccerstuff8071 Nah this is all just minor correction stuff/wandering thoughts I wrote as I observed, no need to clog the hashtag with it. He still got the points from the reading and his own points/thoughts across just fine.
I have an AJPiece planned for the Drum Island video because that should mean it will be read in the video where he discusses Jaya.
Man, I love these reviews so much!! A lot of people have started watching and reacting to OP in the past couple years and I've genuinely enjoyed all of it (I've been reading it for... 17 years, I think? I'm only 25 lol, I just started early). It's always amazing to see new people fall in love with the series. But your reviews have been incredible and, like, seeing how much you get exactly why and how OP is so great so early on in the series is honestly fantastic and kind of mind-blowing to me. I genuinely cannot wait to see the rest of your journey, because, if your understanding and enjoyment of the characters and story is already that great, then holy shit, you and I are not prepared for what's to come.
I love this new format for videos it's so nice watching you enjoy one piece and hearing your unfiltered thoughts about it! Don't worry about the length these videos are really enjoyable
it's not an actual fishman that shows up at baratie, it's just yosaku (one of bounty hunter brothers) being half eaten by a shark, and the people in baratie thought he looked like a fishman/merman, but it was still great foreshadowing and story telling, showing us how these concepts float around in peoples heads which informs us and builds the character of this world but without confirming or denying these concepts.
man every time I read one piece I love oda even more.
I'm so glad you enjoyed Zeff, that flashback is so good in the anime so would recommend checking out the clip for the adaptation for it if you can!
It is lame how the anime changed the way he cut off and ate his own leg to losing it in an accident. Loses a lot of the emotion.
@@Hevymin Yeah the censorship is lame

#AJPiece Sanji puts life above dreams because that's what Zeff did by giving up on his dream of finding the all blue to save a life of an worthless child, but Sanji dosent put the same value on his own life, he'll easily give up on his life for someone else but will never risk anyone's life for his selfish reasons. You can even see it on Arlong park, when Zoro is about to drive underwater, sanji goes in his place instead. Zeff saved sanji's life to pass on his dream of finding the all blue but sanji doesn't understand that, willing to give up on his life just for a mare ship. And that's why Luffy broke the ship, the baratie was just an object, something that can be repaired where a life couldn’t. And when he decides to go on Luffy’s ship, it was after realising that's what Zeff wanted, not because that was something he wanted. So his character arc is far from complete and has much more to offer in future 😉
Holy fuck thats brilliant.
What a great review. I like your calm and thorough explanation of all your thoughts. Subbed.
Great video! Excited to see more of your journey
Thanks!
while true that luffy values the type of character over skills he doesnt choose weaklings. he choose sanji cause the strength of his character. he knows that the sea is dangerous and the amount of stress that can brings is big so he needs people who are tough mentally , thats why he decided he wanted sanji. dont forget that sanji was talking over his past suffering so that hinted at luffy that this guy is strong
I like these kinds of videos. Dont stop. It feels like im listning to an sound book
I actually love these videos! Keep em coming!
This is the arc I knew I would love One Piece. I even bought a Baratie shirt.
Fun fact: When a repeated panel is shown (Like for instance when Zoro remembers his promise to Kuina while fighting Mihawk) Oda will choose to draw the panel again from scratch instead of copy/pasting it from a previous chapter. He feels like he'd be cheating the reader if he doesn't present a chapter with fresh drawings every time. I love that care he adds in there!
Edit and add #AJPiece to this comment!!
Its interesting how in the start you were talking about the "history is decided by the victors" and in about 800 chapters (episodes) there is a character that holds a speech that is very similar.
Man these videos are soo great!! 😭 cant wait for the next arc.. keep up the amazing work 😄

Hell yeah I’ve been waiting for this!
Baratie is one of my favorite arcs, and I’m glad you were able to see the layers this arc brings to the table! Sanji is a very glanced over character, he’s quite complex when you stop and think about it!
I love how an event in one of the latest chapters (no spoilers but those who have read will know) really ties back into Luffy picking Sanji to be a part of the crew. I loved this arc so much because there are so many great characters and Sanji remains my favorite crew member. Oda not only knows how to write amazing characters but knows how to keep characters consistent with themselves over decades of writing
I'd like to emphasize that the COVER pages are important too. Most of the time it's just random artwork but sometimes it will be given volumes numbers or marks which means that they are cannon and play into the story!
Just started watching ur One Piece scattered thoughts - it's really exciting as a viewer to see someone else go through the journey!

#AJPiece If you had to predict, outside of Luffy which of the characters (that you've met so far) do you think you'll love the most by the end?
The answer is none of them. Robin gang Robin gang
@@frankburnstein1195 Robin is an impossible answer. My question specifies only the ones he's met so far. Even if Robin ends up his number one there is still an answer here out of the characters he's seen so far.
I'd predict Zoro
This and the following arc are the ones which got me fully hooked on one piece. Sanji is a controversial character in the OP community and imo most misunderstood one as well. He is so nuanced and layered. Glad that you were able to pick it up so early. Zoro cemented himself in my top 2 after this arc as well. After something happened eventhough nothing happened he became my number 1. I don't mind this longer videos. I really like the way you construct stories and the way you are able to grasp the main gist of the characters. Cant wait to see the next arc review!
Those panels of sanji and luffy talking about the All Blue are some of my favorite ever just the whole hearted, full faced laugh on Sanji's face is so beautiful. One of my favorite things is watching someone talk about something their passionate about and Oda captured that so perfectly.
I really enjoy these. Your voice is so soothing to hear too. I can’t believe I’m a One Piece fan and yet I never in my life could get this much meaning out of what people say “the weakest arcs”.

Don’t worry about conciseness! This is One Piece lmao
the next arc is the arc that got me fully invested into one piece
#AJPiece
You truly gave me a whole new understanding of one of my favorite characters in one piece. Sanji is very different from Luffy or Zoro but what he lacks in resolve or strength he makes up for in inteligence and kindness, Gin not being able to finish him off is the perfect demonstration of that. Thank you for making me remember why I love these characters so much, good luck in the next ark it is a good one.
Keep these up
#AJPiece I found your channel through your content on HxH and haikyu and u helped enhance my love for those series. That was before I read one piece and its now my favorite manga and ever since I fell in love with it Ive been hoping to see you talk about it for a long time. Baratie and the next arc Alrong Park are the arcs that made me fall in love with One piece so im excited for the next video
#AJPiece Sanji is infamous for being one of the most divisive characters in the series. Can you imagine why based off of what you've read so far?
1:12:00 Always loved Oda's style of exposition in these early arcs... "Time to go, queue the exposition shark"
zef telling sanji to wear a sweater/keep his feet dry really hit me. And then later on it hits me even harder. AND THEN LATER ON IT HITS ME EVEN HARDER
Aaahh yissss this type of video is my crack
Baratie has so many elements that really make one piece as a whole special
Whenever I introduce someone to One Piece, I always tell them, if they are bored with the first few arcs, to at least stick it out until the end of Baratie. A lot of people pick Arlong Park, which I agree is better, but imo if you are still not at all into OP after Baratie, Arlong Park aint gonna do it for you either.
My favorite part of this arc is how we get to see basically the endgame level strength so early. We get planted a seed of how powerful the top tiers are. A seed that will stick with us for the whole series.
Even if Sanji wasn't a goated cook when you see his attitude towards food and feeding ppl you know he would've tried his best to get better
#AJPiece You've noticed a lot of themes early on in One Piece, but which strikes you as the most powerful, emotional and central to the story of One Piece?
Thank you!
omg, If you love the found family troupe, then you're in for a treat, there's lots of those in One Piece, one in particular which I wouldn't wanna spoil.
After watching your thoughts on OP, I have realized it has more depth than I initially thought or on the surface it's very easy to dismiss OP as a feel gud simple series. Whereas Oda does expecting work in foreshadowing and making certain themes characteristic of each character and certain themes that all straw hats share fundamentally. Ah, I'm falling in love OP more and more. As always it's been a pleasure listening to you
#AJPiece Do you find your opinions on any characters influenced by DMs, comments, or Twitch chat? For instance, did you instantly treat Buggy like a meme character because of things you saw, or did you expect Baratie to be great because lots of people said it was?
For that long, I truly loved listening to you. I'm not bothered by the length of the reviews. In fact, the exact opposite is true. Make them a little longer.
These OP vids are fantastic. Please don't ever stop lol
Lol don’t worry, I won’t try to make them longer but I definitely won’t cut myself off before I’ve said all I needed to say, no chance for that :)
I’ll continue making them as long as people continue to support and engage with them! Glad you enjoyed.
#AJPiece Since this comment will be read in the Loguetown video - do you have a preference so far between the more tight and focused Oda arcs? (Romance Dawn, Loguetown) or the larger and more sprawling ones? (Baratie, Arlong Park). Some tend to agree that the shorter ones are more focused and efficient, but that the longer have higher peaks.
Zoro also carries a shared dream for Kuina.
#AJPiece As time goes on, and the cast becomes enormous, it would be nice for you to do a top 5 characters for the arc you're particularly reviewing and a top5/10 for the series as a whole
I love how he has no idea what's gonna happen and he's just leading up to it
I'm hype for him to continue and see where it goes
Thanks for this.
#AJPiece luffy saw in sanji the thing that he looks for in people
Nami and sanji where not presented as kind nami steals and the first thing sanji did was beating a guy for insulting his food
What was special about sanji is that he would beat someone for insulting food and then give it to a guy who needs it
Sanji has ideals, boundaries honor, and respect for what he stands for
Sanji did both things, while being aware that no one will agree with him
Everyone was against beating the customer and feeding gin
But sanji did it anyway
If you read this comment i really recommend watching the "sanji feeding gin" scene in the anime because it was expanded in the anime and there is 4/5 more lines
Hawkeye is his title. Mihawk is his name. Takanome no Mihawk. Hawk eyes Mihawk
I also think Luffy was mad at Sanji because him dying there wasn't for the sake of finding the All Blue. Zeff recsued him so he could continue his dream, so dying for the restaurant and not the All Blue wouldn't be right. Also just the fact that dying isn't the way you repay someone that wanted you to live lol.
I love it when mohawk starts to fight and is like I'm sorry I don't have anything smaller than this( talking about that tiny knife he pulls out to fight lol)
Sanji is my fav character next to Luffy and more later on but his arc is what made me want to watch more one piece
