They say they develop by themselves two to three weeks after the filter is installed. I don't know how this happens, but maybe they get there naturally from the air or water you are running through the filter. You would have to do more research on this. I am surprised they don't include a layer of charcoal in the filter.
actually is not maintenance free. You have to back flush or remove the bacteria layer and wait the bacteria grow again. Is good to have two filters, while one is filtering the other is maturating.
Looks like a great idea. Better than not doing it through this at all, with some water. Kangen water, by the way, has more antioxidants in one glass than a punnet of blueberries. People are coming off of their medication with it. Some people are willing to give some of their kangen water away for free. 1 out of 6 households in Japan, have it and the hospitals in Japan, clean with the 2.5ph from it. One doctor online has a cancer protocol for his patients wherein they drink 11.5 ph.
this filter works on the same principle as the aquarium filters or pond filters , the bacteria culture apears itself or you can buy a bacteria culture from a local pet store for fast response :) eiher way after 2-3 weeks the water is safe to drink ,i know this because i have 3 aquariums , and the fish i own need verry clean water , and my filter works on the same principle .
All the people asking questions regarding this filter can find the answers by searching google for bio sand filter. You will find a manual in pdf format with step by step instructions on how to built it. You can print it, share it. All the company wants is that you give them credit for the information. It seems fair to me.
@MrThefroster, it is to preserve the bio-film on the upper layer of sand, this bacterial film consumes organics, nutrients and other (possibly harmful) bacteria.
Arthritis literally means joint pain. The pain of joints mentioned in the video would be infectious arthritis or septic arthritis. This type of arthritis is usually caused by bacteria in the synovial fluid.
The flaw in this video is that if the people you're tring to sell this to cant afford clean water then they probably cant afford a device to watch this on.
@randy12368 it's not its just plain fine sand you can buy at home depot. The trick is running water through it a while so the "bio-layer" is built up enough to pull most of the bad stuff out
How do you get a culture of the good bacteria to grow from the start? Do you add some from the start, is it naturally occurring or must you add some as a starter culture to make those little guys do thier thing?
Great Idea. But i think a free 55 gallon drum and few off cuts of cheap pipe from a construction site could so the same thing for a a lot less money. The people that are being pitched to are dirt poor and would be better served by teaching them to build these kind of filters than trying to profit off them.
I checked the cost of this in dollars. The cost was $2,000 Philippine Pesos or, about $45 US Dollars. That is pretty cheap considering the materials, knowhow, and labor that is invested in these things. I think the "knockers" shoulde do their homework before criticizing.
Perhaps, but survivalists are coming here trying to figure out how to make these kinds of things from scratch in a pinch, not buy something to stuff in the shed for emergencies.
@randy12368 Just search for sand bio-filter how to's. I'm not quite sure but i think it seems to be about 3 weeks to get a decient start, a full month to be close drinking water and a few months to get rid of close to 100% of bacteria. But I'm no expert so do your own research
I have tryed it for my fishes. The problem is after 2 month they are all dead now. First it works verry good, but then the water flowes slower and than verry verry slow. A bit of the Sand gets brown color. The filter can also generate harmfull mushroom or bacteria. I think it is better to have 2 ones and change the filter sand from time to time.
no you can't use this filter for a pond because of the flow . in this video they say 20 liters /hour wich is not enough , giving the sizes of the filter presented in the movie ,even a bigger one would not sufice your needs , BUT on the same principles you can build a SUMP ,search it on youtube and you'll find numerous results.... hope you understand me (english is not my native language)
You can just drink your own urine why would you want to filter it? That would just take out vitamins and extra electrolytes which you could be recycling.
The 'LifeSaver' is much better, this is just old. It won't t.ex. filter out polio that is 25nm, but the 'LifeSaver' has 15nm opening. That means that the water is STERILE, compared to this nonsense.
If I am attempting to listen to you... the drums are louder then you are speaking... then why isn't this a music video? I quit after 3:25 sec. You didn't need the loud background to break off your explanation, just saying.
You can't garentee that someone's joint pain will go away. You don't know for sure what's causing it. They might have arthritis.

How about donating these to Flint MI or making a presentation to the govenor or mayor's office?

I've used to work on swimming pools we used sand filters, they did work well & cheep.
@MrThefroster, it is to preserve the bio-film on the upper layer of sand, this bacterial film consumes organics, nutrients and other (possibly harmful) bacteria.
awsome idea, i live right next to a huge creek and if the shtf i will have major clean water supply.
It's about $160.00 US Dollars. It's cheaper if you build it your self. Look for a DIY Version here in youtube.
Arthritis literally means joint pain. The pain of joints mentioned in the video would be infectious arthritis or septic arthritis. This type of arthritis is usually caused by bacteria in the synovial fluid.
Very helpful thanks
By fine sand do you mean a specific kind of sand or something you find on nearby beaches or lakes?
The flaw in this video is that if the people you're tring to sell this to cant afford clean water then they probably cant afford a device to watch this on.
Sir, can u explain clearly about sand and ,calcium rocks pls
@randy12368 it's not its just plain fine sand you can buy at home depot. The trick is running water through it a while so the "bio-layer" is built up enough to pull most of the bad stuff out
@zanucktv Yes, but it won't remove the salt.
@Jubalaganda Yes, you can.
How do you get a culture of the good bacteria to grow from the start? Do you add some from the start, is it naturally occurring or must you add some as a starter culture to make those little guys do thier thing?
where does the good bacteris come from
SPH 381 took me here
How often does the sand have to be changed (if at all)?
i'd suggest making your filter now, so you will have it ready and tweeked when you need it
galing
it wont. adding carbon in it helps remove chlorine. you can make charcoal by burning wood and adding the burnt black part to use help reduce it too.
wow!
Great Idea. But i think a free 55 gallon drum and few off cuts of cheap pipe from a construction site could so the same thing for a a lot less money. Ronnie Mccord BINGO!!!
Teach a man to fish...
Great
Where are the locations you can buy one of these filters? I live in Gingoog city on Mindanao.
It is very useful
nice
After this process can u boil it just to evaporate anything left?
which bacteria should be use in plant
where we can buy that?
this is economical since no more chlorination to kill bacteria and viruses
most systems like this you will have to back flush and re-establish the "bio-layer"
$46.83 US??? I live in Texas and I will buy one now! Did you say Calgary? Wait, this is not oil sand is it? :-P Seriously though, I would buy one.

What happens to all the dirt, bacteria that accumulates over time in the filter?? Dont we have to clean the filter?
The cost to actually build one of these filters, is only about $12.50 US (PHP 670).
can u use this as a bio-filter for koi fish??please reply cause im curious...
Is there a website for your company?
How much is the Cost to Build this biosand water filter ?

galin san pwede bilin yan
hahahaha i thought this shit was awesome until "it can be your for only 2000 pesos""lmfao
can i put a charcoal at the bottom?
hasik I think charcoal can be added below sand level so that it also remove metal ions. we are going to test in our lab.
thank you sir
does it remove added chlorine in water?
we are in trouble of this chemical in african tap waters
it says do not use chlorinated water. my guess is the chlorine would kill the beneficial microbes in the sand.
They fail here to explain how you establish the good bacteria once you set it up.
???
Never put chlorinated water in this filter
how much... ? in dollars ..........

You can just drink your own urine why would you want to filter it? That would just take out vitamins and extra electrolytes which you could be recycling.
i dont know what ever school you got into but i swear drinking urine is just so dumb
Yes! Urine therapy.
Sorry, this is outdated info, in practice the biosand filter as explained is not recommended anymore by FairWater
See our website for more details
The watertulip does 99.99 percent, how about that!

Good, no great build them, sell them.

Does not do sea water that is desalination which is very expensive and more of a process.
+Welson Elaine (Dried Fish Vendor) yes it does

What the hell is a pehso?
I think it's a type of taco...

Why claim this was invented in Canada?
If I am attempting to listen to you...
the drums are louder then you are speaking...
then why isn't this a music video? I quit after 3:25 sec.
You didn't need the loud background to break off your explanation, just saying.
irritating music!
Super annoying music.
