    This video underrates the Presidential Motorcade by miles. Obama visited my town once; 421 was shut down completely for 90 minutes, including all overpasses. There's typically a few dozen local unis and State Police escorting. It's fucking insane, and also: a huge pain in the ass when you just want to get to work on time.

    I live in Washington, DC and if you're ever stuck for a Presidential/VP motorcade, you lose cell signal as the Beast goes by for about 5 seconds. Motorcades are legitimate excuses for being late as they will literally close DC streets for about 10-15 minutes. There will be local police in uniform standing on street corners to control pedestrians, about 30 motorcycle cops to block intersections along the route, all of the associated motorcade vehicles. They are definitely an interesting experience, but also a pain.

      @shmoop357 Před 5 měsíci +16

      This may very well be something you are aware of, but it's an interesting thing I think more people should know nonetheless! Contrary to popular belief, the RPG in RPG-7 does not stand for Rocket Propelled Grenade, but rather Ручной Противотанковый Гранатомёт, or Ruchnoy Protivotankovy Granatomyot (meaning handheld anti-tank grenade launcher). If I'm correct, RPG-7 rounds are shaped charges, meaning they have a hollow cavity in the tip of the warhead that focuses the blast, causing more armor penetration.

    • @justinc71
      @justinc71 Před 5 měsíci +12

    Its heavily armored the doors are 8in thick and the floors are mine resistant as well ... at best the RPG would disable it at which time theyd be smoked by the assault team while the secret service agents move him into the 2nd beast and drive him out of danger

  • @audreybossman8369
    @audreybossman8369 Před 5 měsíci +23

    The Duke system(the electronic counter measure) is a super rad piece of tech. We used them for convoy security in Baghdad. You flick the switch and all cell or cordless phone service is dead in the bubble it creates around you.
    Granted, it does nothing with pressure plates, PIR(passive infrared, ie the beam that makes your garage door go back up if you walk through it), or command wire detonated explosives...but those are a lot less likely to be there in this scenario because they require a lot more 'hands on' from the bad guys.

    A Presidential Motorcade passed in front of my home on the way to some summit thing.
    There were Secret Service crawling all over the place for a week, or more before he drove through. They interviewed EVERYBODY. I got interviewed 3 times because I lived on the route, and worked a full time and part time job, both of which were also on the route.
    Basically, by the time he drove through, those Secret Service Agents could spot anybody that was out of place.
    And anytime The Beast is traveling under a certain speed limit, there are teams of Agents on the ground.
    Honestly, we were just a stretch of road that connected two Interstates. Without traffic it took the motorcade less than 10 minutes.

  • @MERollered

    This is why it's good for the president to wait a while before going to natural disasters or even man-made disasters. The man power, the security, and all that takes a lot out of the community resources, and it's better until things calm down.
    In the rocket launcher the beast is built to withstand a huge amount but there are so many secret services not only traveling with him but also on rooftops along the travel route if they are traveling inside the city and looking at cameras and what not that the minute that guy with the launcher crack opens that door or moves around a lot in that vehicle they are likely aware of the threat. Also, this is only what we know what the beast's ability to do now is. If it's sound technology that can be useful to the president that NASA or whoever develops, they will completely utilize it, and it could be years before the public knows about.

Secret service is very serious when the president is on the move. Don't even think about it, they will fire. The beast is basically a tank Cadillac. We'll never know all of what the car can withstand. Just know that it's other things that they do as well. Some manholes are checked and bolted shut. It's cool sometimes, but like I said, the traffic is horrible. All of these vehicles have their sirens blaring. It's LOUD as well. Obama wanted Ben's chili. The traffic...😫

  • @bluflaam777
    @bluflaam777 Před 5 měsíci +5

    There are even multi convoys as decoys...not just one or two cars. But the car can withstand an explosion. 8in thick armor is nothing to sneeze at. Besides, the routes are never told to anyone. All routes including the decoy routes are cleared and never have any residential access. NO ONE has a close look at the convoy. On top of that the drivers have extensive training in evading threats perceived or real. Remember this is a huge and heavy vehicle. It takes a lot of practice to drive light a bat out of hell under threat.

    I used to live in South of Houston really closed to NASA and in the area is located the Ellington Field airport which supports military operations. The apartment complex I lived in at the time was right off the interstate 45, so when the presidential motorcade would pass by, they would shut down the freeway for at least 15 minutes. They would do so both directions. It was a sight to see, they were well coordinated and fast. Living in that area I got to see all kinds of operations and massive machinery go by, it was fascinating but also a night mare because it would create a huge traffic.

The airlock drawer on the driver's door, the air filter system and air supply, and the two inch lamenated saphire windows impressed me most. Lots of locked storage compartments in the trunk. But the whole thing was armored and had that pop-up back window shield straight out of James Bond. The flag post holders at the front corners were cute. Prior to the Presidental visit, a Secret Service advance team will have already surveyed the planned route, alternative routes, and escape routes. Manhole covers may be welded down, mail boxes and garbage cans may be removed. No parking enforced on the route and side streets.
    On the day of the visit, snipers will be on rooftops and agents on the ground looking for threats.

    What isn't covered in this video is that all possible routes the presidential motorcade could take are scouted out ahead of time and covered by a literal army of Secret Service personel and all possible attack vectors and suspicious vehicles and individuals are warded off or detained if they refuse to leave or are suspected of trying to ambush the convoy. And among that army of SS personel are a group called the Counter Sniper Team (CS) provides long-range observation and real-time information gathering at exterior sites visited by Secret Service protectees, who are also snipers themselves.
    They also have personel that help relay information provided by the various teams that report directly to the command vehicle who relays that information to the other vehicles in the motorcade in real time.
    The SS does not mess around. They've only lost a president once in their history since they officially took over the protection of the President in 1902 after Congress decided to hand over the detail to them after the assassination of William Mckinnley. And that was President Kennedy, and they never let themselves forget it or become complacent again.

    I have two Presidential stories. Around 1987, the Vice President (George HW Bush) had a morning run at my school's track. All we students knew was that the track was off-limits. He ran with his Secret Service. Funny seeing a guy in red shorts and a t-shirt running with a bunch of guys in black. Then in 2002, the President George W Bush (son of the former) had a motorcade go past where I worked at the time. I was surprised there wasn't more security since it was a long road with a lot of homes and businesses along the way. We stood in the front and waved as he passed.

    You should try and find some video of the president getting into the beast. Firstly, he can walk right into the back without bending over, that's how tall the vehicle is. Next, look at the thickness of the door. I seem to remember the spec on the door alone is 1 ton. If you can get a good angle of the windows, they're similar to looking at someone through an airplane window, giving you some concept of how thick that window really is. As for the RPG, I think it would be wounded, but still moving under control.

    The Beast is a car built upon the chasis of a full sized ¾ or full Ton SUV. Why? Because it has to be, as it supports the weight of all the armor and bullet proof glass and stuff.

That rpg would not even get fired as the person would be killed by the helicopters

    This video honestly doesn't even do the motorcade justice. They shut down EVERYTHING. Highwhays, highway overpasses -- anywhere even remotely close the route gets blocked off by local police. After JFK got killed the US said "never again". That's why it's always such a big deal when the president goes anywhere, because it is literally a big ordeal. It's extremely expensive and time consuming, but this is America lol they don't care what it costs or takes. Really sucks for us as citizens because it disrupts traffic for hours lol. And like other people have said, if the president is specifically going somewhere, they'll have boots on the ground weeks before he ever goes there. Secret service agents do background checks on people in that area to try and find anyone who might hurt the president.
    Obama has talked about it before, but the president doesn't really get to decide where they go and what they do lol. Everywhere they go is part of an elaborately coordinated schedule. They don't even get to carry normal cell phones because they're such a security risk. They get heavily encrypted phones with extremely limited uses.

      It's bomb-proof; all the body panels are constructed of 8-inch-thick aluminum, with similar panels covering the entire undercarriage. This protects the mechanical parts of The Beast, so even if it were to run over a landmine or IED, the vehicle would still be able to move under it's own power.
