    Only Aboriginal history talks about the land, the animals, the sky and nature in general. All respect for the earthmother has been lost in modern day Australia.
    I am so glad that there are still stories to be heard. 5 stars.

    It's the most ancient culture that still exists, and it's being killed off. We do not give it too much status and praise, we give it FAR too little. They lived here for at least 60,000 years and white Australians have only been here for approx 250 and we are destroying the land already. This is just one of many many Dreamtime stories.

    We have an almost similar myth in Norway, about the Goldcrest (Regulus Regulus), which we name "Kingbird". The yellow spot on his head is supposed to be his crown, which he gained after winning the flying contest by hitch- hiking with the Eagle. The morale in our story is different from the Aboriginal one, though, with the little bird winning due to his clever idea.

    It is one of tens of thousands of stories, and this one is the same as Icarus except possibly 20,000 years earlier. As most mythologies it both explains something about not only what (blue wren lives in small bush and not tree) but gives an explanation for why. At the same time, always in parallel, there is some ethical concept and in this case it is similar to Icarus - firstly the idea of ambition healthy to begin but when taken too extreme leading to corruption. Secondly, idea of cheating leading to self limitation - the blue wren cheats for flying at greater height but thus results in the opposite, a life of remaining low. The original story will be more subtle as told by ancestors so we only hear one variant but already still fill with metaphors despite apparent simplicity.

    My mother raised my family with the dreamtime story.
    I'm not sure why as I don't believe I'm of indigenous ancestry but I'm sure glad she did raise me that way!!
    I hope I have children one day, so I can pass down the same stories!!

    Old video upload great capture of the Rainbow-Lorikeet @ the start ,they enjoy eating bottle brush and believe it or not , they get all hypo (or drunk) when eating nectar from the red bottle brush .Never try to grow a plum tree in a back yard around the Blue Mountains. A flock of them will turn up eat every thing in sight and roll around on the ground like drunks laughing out loud @ a bar.Easy to tame though, nice story enjoyed the vid , What are you said the wise owl a bunch of bird brains ;)

    Great morals tought here,why care about your neighbour and whatnot,YOU are as precious and can do EVERYTHING,anyone else does,Don`t care about shiny feathers(cars),or how high they can fly(reach a carreer)..YOU are YOU,live life on your own terms.Hope to hear more stories.BTW I am from Norway.

      I don’t even see that as related and you give an individualistic viewpoint. Aboriginals generally didn’t seem to have this individualism focus that we have today. They had concept of purposefulness and responsibility to your relations. It is one of tens of thousands of stories, and this one similar to Icarus except possibly 20,000 years earlier. The story is told each way somewhat in variation between ancestors so we only hear one variant here but already still fill with metaphors despite apparent simplicity.

    • @DaughterOfZion8888
      @DaughterOfZion8888 Před 4 lety

      Actually they once did.
      And the emu had his wings broken/chopped off by the boomerang. The emu was once the highest in creation.
      The mother of creation- so to speak. She was also rainbow colours . After she lost her wings (power and Spirit light) she went dull in colour and remained grounded.
      It it the fall of man story.
      In addition it was her movement of light and matter when she flew that created the waves and spiral of colours in the sky - this is what is called the RAINBOW serpent.
      There are many versions of the story of how emu lost her wings.

      Tim Oshea How is it unhealthy?

    • @timosh78
      @timosh78 Před 9 lety

      1 its not the oldest culture on earth humans came from Africa so African hunter gather couture is older 2 just surviving is not an achievement inventing nothing but a stick is not inspiring for kids .there are a lot of very impressive ancient cultures to learn from that are ignored in Australia .we have a become a small narrow minded country

    • @lilly_pilly_animations6273
      @lilly_pilly_animations6273 Před 9 lety +3

      Tim Oshea We had already become narrow minded country in our history for not acknowledging the Aboriginal own rights!
      Coming from someone who has no Aboriginal heritage I feel narrow minded that I know more about Japanese culture when I'm not even Japanese, and I don't know much about the first people of my country as I would like.
      The white settlers have already destroyed most of the Aboriginals Culture. If they stop telling their stories all is lost. The to destroying culture is forgetting it even existed.
      Again, how is it unhealthy?

    • @chicwitattitude09
      @chicwitattitude09 Před 9 lety +5

      Tim Oshea Actually the Africa theory has been found untrue, in 1968 when Mungo woman was found in Lake Mungo sands in NSW, then again in 1974 when Mungo man was discovered, they were dated at 50,000+ years old. These are the oldest human remains ever found on this earth. So it looks like we all came from here mate. The pyramids of giza are only around 7,000 years old, Stone Henge is about 5,000 Y/O and yet we have Australian Aboriginal artifacts found here that are much much older, tens of thousands of years older. Research it.

    The contrast is rather striking when you see the bird being punished for using its brain to get ahead. The exact same thing our societies like to use, destroying the environment to produce and get ahead. 🥲
