I don’t understand why once the water is blown out of the bottom drain it does not just return and empty the pool when one reopens that valve. Great and comprehensive video byw.

Hey great question. I should have repositioned the camera, there are two ball valves, the bottom one remained closed. But you are right, if I opened both, water would have come flowing out.
I keep the bottom ball valve closed, then I fill up the neck between the ball valves with antifreeze, then I screw in a cap on top just in case that ball valve leaks.

Thanks for the great video! I do have one question now that I'm closing a pool for the first time. Q:: what keeps the air in the bottom drain plumbing from coming out the center drain and visa/versa the water re-filling up the bottom drain plumbing?
    btw...the anti-freeze is a great suggestion.
    Thanks again

I’m getting ready to open mine, where do you live?
To answer your question, physics is the reason. Blowing air into the line then immediately shutting the ball valve creates a ‘vapor lock’. The bubble is stuck in the tube. When I open the ball valve in the spring, there is a rush of air then the water comes shooting out.

If you put your finger on one end of a clear straw and put it in a cup of water, you can see the principal

Not sure what your referring to, there is my riser for the underground filter intake…… anything else would be a weed
