  • In this After Effects Tutorial, I'll show you how to create an isometric projection - without using a camera!
Download the project file here: gumroad.com/manueldoesmotion
First of all, we create our basic setup. Add a group to our shape layer, which holds all the settings for the isometric perspective. We change the scale, skew and rotation settings of the group.
All shapes we need, to create the mobile phone are placed inside this group and are automatically in the right perspective.
After creating the mobile phone, we add some app icons and animate one of the app icons.
Then we add some more bars, animate them and finally add some numbers, which are linked to the animation of the bars. Very useful for all kinds of infographics.
Therefore we have a quick look into an expression.

Great technique to add the shapes inside the isometric group so you only have to do the calculations once. Thanks

Thx! Recently I started to see shape layers as a container for several elements, almost like pre-comps. Speeds up the workflow a lot...

Love your tutorial thanks. I wondered if you had any tips on how moving the apps in an isometric way precisely to get the axis and gap right between one app and another?

You're very welcome! Glad you like my stuff!
I would use guides. Actually the guides, used in the tutorial and move them along the lines.
To get the gaps right I would use the stroke width.
If the gap is 10 pixels I would set it to 10 pixels and use it to check the gap size.

To create the apps you can just duplicate screen layer and adjust size to 100 by 100

Thanks for the tutorial so helpful! How did you mange to get the repetition of the phone at the begging of the video?

Hi! So glad you liked it! I pre-composed (select all phone layers -> go to "layer" -> "Pre-compose") the phone and then duplicated the pre-comp several times.
