5 SIR will be the first infantry battalion to be converted to Motorised/Mechanised Infantry Battalion.
Subsequently, other battalions will be converted to Motorised/Mechanised Infantry Battalion.

Singapore Motorised or Mechanised Infantry refers to Infantry Battalions using Terrex to go the distance instead of walking which is very tiring for the soldiers.
Singapore Armoured Infantry refers to Armour Battalions using Bionix II Infantry Fighting Vehicle to go the distance & fight when dismounted. Bionix II IFV can take out other armoured vehicles too with the 30mm cannon firing APFSDS rounds.
Of course, what I said above may not apply to other armies.

Yap, 2 SIR is the first Motorised/Mechanised Infantry Battalion on 31 May 2011.
So 5 SIR should be the 2nd Motorised/Mechanised Infantry Battalion as featured here.
I understand your frustration but I think you've to be patient as the conversion takes some time.

In Singapore, when doing one's NS, is there an ability for the NS Man (I am presupposing there's no female NS) to express a preference of assignments? As in, Armour over Infantry, or Air Defense, that sort of thing or is it all Infantry only? I understand there's no guarantees but are they even given the opportunity to request an assignment?

You can choose your vocation.You'll probably get in. But factors included education,family background,and a thorough security screening for some vocations like commando,ndu and armour.

We should be motorising all infantry base on the number of Terrex being commission.

Mars HQ bionix can. All current amphibious vehicles need to undergo waterborne prep like sealing plugs holes etc, not sure about the terrex although i would think they can swim too

Whats the different between Motorised Infantry and Armoured Infantry?

Motorised infantry is carried by wheeled armour vehicles,whereas armoured infantry is carried by armoured tracked vehicles.
