It took me a very long time to discover this show because when I saw it in the TV guide I always thought it was an actual home improvement show, and not a sitcom.
They’ve been playing the theme song from Seasons 1-2 during the NHL playoffs, whenever there’s a stoppage to fix the ice/player equipment/etc... It’s been awesome hearing the nostalgia!
I think the grunt was from the mom. No pun intended. I think it was took from out of one of the episodes . i just watched . tim grunted then she then he then she then him. Her second grunt was the one that stood out to me the most.
According to IMDB, she's still somewhat regularly getting bit roles today. Interestingly, she's also guest-starred on Tim Allen's current sitcom Last Man Standing (as Helen Potts)!

I'd forgotten that this show ran for almost the entirety of the '90s. My brain tends to associate it with a single homogeneous period in my life, yet nothing could be further from the truth - I watched it with my family from 6th grade until I was a freshman in college! So much changed during that time span. It was kinda nice to have that constant that we could all sit down and enjoy for so many years.
I lived in a few houses as a kid but I have the strongest/fondest memories of the house I lived in from ages 8-18 and this theme song immediately takes me back to that house (I was born in 1985)

By the time ABC committed to the project in early 1991, Allen and his team had already changed the title to Home Improvement. The show hosted by Tim Taylor in the shooting script for Home Improvement was still called Hammer Time when the first pilot with Frances Fisher was filmed in April 1991. The catalyst for the series' name change was to represent the aspect of fixing problems within the family and home life, as well as the use of mechanics and tools. Once the second phase of the pilot was produced, with all the actors that made the final cut into the series (including Patricia Richardson), Tim Taylor's Hammer Time became Tool Time. For this show intro 1 is my favorite of them all the guitar is epic and i love how it gradually gets heavier and heavier as time goes one :P I feel like im one of the few who notices that the guitar and the guitar solos get heaviers as each season goes on.

Seasons 2 to 6 had the best theme with a slight lean towards 2 & 3. Season one was the warm up, 2 and 3 was the full version, 4 to 6 were the radio edit and seasons 7 and 8 altered it fractionally downward in quality.

I do like Tim's new show Last Man Standing but why do get the feeling that it's so similar to Home Improvement? in HI he has three sons, lives in Detroit and owns his own tv show. Last Man Standing. he has three daughters, lives in Denver and works at a major outdoor store like Cabela's and has his own online blog! as a big fan of Home Improvement, I can't help but not see the similarities between the two shows!

Assuming that your peak childhood is from about age 5-10, you were probably old enough to remember the episodes aired between 1994-1999. Not to mention there were a shit-ton of reruns in the late 90s and early 00s. Do you honestly not remember anything before age 10? I don't mean any offense, but most people start to vividly remember stuff from about age 4/5.
