Madonna elevates herself to a higher state, with mystical but dark vibes on this track. Definitely a favorite, because everything works so well. This is a beautiful song, both demo and album version. Like the album version a bit more, same reason as yours.
The lyric: “i light a candle” always reminds me of “i light this candle” from the 1989 song SPANISH EYES.

You need to hear the Hearbreak City demo - not the one on CZcams, but the first one which had brass instruments and a marching band. Way better than the Rebel Heart final version, but unfortunately no longer on youtube that I can see.

Between this, the Queen demo and some versions of Wash All Over Me, it's clear she was initially going for a military sound and feel.
I can’t listen to this entire track without teary eyes at some point or another... it totally gets under my skin! It’s like a church experience although I never go to church! Please listen to HEAVEN - unreleased track from this album... feel we got robbed on that one, as it’s a pure moody electro gem!

there 's a 2nd demo of Messiah with more strings and orchestration and overall more dramatic than the album version

Beautiful demo...her voice sounds fantastic! I think the album track is more dramatic and pops more -- i.e. the piano and her voice -- which, imv, makes it better than the demo, but the demo is really great too! Another great reaction, Dereck.

Just one thing, demos are not necessary in my opinion. Artists dont choose them and every time they’re right, and now i understand why Madonna didnt choose Advicii version, the are awful!

Yeah! The album version is better but there's another demo that's like the album version and maybe better, because you hear the sounds of the instruments clearer 🤔

My only gripe about 'Messiah' is that its too short.
This album is so underated
My favourite song on Rebel Heart by a mile, one of the few on that album I like. Again, the other demo version with the extended strings at the end is far better.

The best song on the uneven and messy Rebel Heart , the demo of this song with more strings and orchestra and slower is magnificent and so haunting , could have been incredible live with a full orchestra on the Grammys . This album like MDNA could have been great with some editing and more love and direction.

As a Christian, I love many of Madonna songs with this 'holy' aspect.
Messiah= How we find Christ and through Him, God pulls us closer to His Kindgdom.
Nothing Fails= God's promise in Revelations about how He'll wipe away the tears of our eyes in the future, and pain and death will be no more. Nothing is impossible with Him!
Love Profusion= Reminds me of David's Psalms! God is under our skin because we are made in His image!
Intervention= God is love! Nothing can come between us and Him, not even death, war, or threats! We are His children.
Issac= The human struggles of many Biblical characters, and their fight to serve God!

This is the best track of Rebel Heart, this demo is not that great. Madonna did a huge mistake choosing singles. She must understand that she is not commercial anymore. Choosing commercial singles is just a overshadow of her true highlights.
She lost me with this album and Madame X didn't help. I appreciate her song writing capabilities. Not to deprive her evolution bur I want progressive pop/dance which she is the mistress of
