Rhyd-y-Clafdy - a superb model of the Cambrian Coast Railway.

  • This is a video of Phil Greaves' model of the fictitious station of Rhyd-y-Clafdy - the first station after Pwllheli on the proposed extension of the Cambrian Coast Railway to the north coast of the LLyn Peninsula in North Wales. Although schemes were drawn up for the extension of the Cambrian Coast line from Pwllheli to Porth Dinllaen in the 1870s and 1880s they were never built. Phil's model portrays the scene as it might have existed about 1960.

Fantastic attention to detail. Very well modelled.

Absolutely amazing. I'm a big Cambrian fan and my 00 gauge fleet reflects this. I plan on a fictional branch too, but your layout is astonishing. Well done 👍

One of the finest model layouts I've ever seen! It gave me some inspiration for my own project. Well done indeed!

Very nice hand held shots enhanced by the lovely scenery & sound effects - well put together!

Great video of a FANTASTIC layout.

Fantastic layout of a 'what could have been' station/line. Imagine it today, just one through track, the main station building now a pub, platform disused, other platform mainly overgrown apart from a short section with obligatory bus shelter, and just enough to accommodate a 2 car class 158! All that passes are those units, and the occasional class 97 on an engineers, or railtour. Just the way the Cambrian has unfortunately been run down over the last 50 plus years. Keep up the great work.

I must admit, I am more of a fan of American locos, than British. That said, one is hard pushed to find American layouts that show the same standard of scenery detailing as the Brit layouts.
Your backgrounds are amazing, and the scenery has been blended perfectly into the backdrop. The attention to detail in your scenice work shows. I'm impressed. :)

Fabulous! Waiting to do mine in next house. Won't be as fantastic as this though.

I honestly prefer how scenics were modeled before static grass became the norm. You tend to find people now put down some static grass and some hedges and call it a day. When really you need multiple textured layers to make the scenics look convincing

The coal used on the Cambrian system in the late 'Fifties/ early 'Sixties smelled really nice when burned. I was told it was from Point of Air colliery. Can anyone confirm? (I can just about smell it now if I concentrate hard enough.)

What a lovely layout, though strange to see so many passenger movements but no freight. Pity about the clumsy editing. Fade to black is not an appropriate routine transition, and the sound stage was erratic.

Great, but your "Manor" seems to have aquired a third cylinder !

Beautifully conceived hard scenery, but the ever changing theme of the soundtrack was confusing and I never did get to see the elusive light aircraft!

Great Model major criticism the soundtrack please please get it right sounds for the right locos since when have Manors and 45xx tanks 78000 moguls have had the Gresley beat and also become |Bullied three cylinder . I thought these locos above were 2 cylinder sorry lets the whole video down and model best to have no sound !!

Nice model, but an increasing number of layouts now seem to feature 'birdsong', which I am starting to get a bid fed up with. As for sound fitted steam outline models with no visible smoke or steam, ok, I know it's a model, but really, what's the point? Sorry!

Layouts great, can't really fault it but 4min is all I could stand of the badly dubbed gimmicky, mismatched, un synchronized sounds ruining it so stopped watching

Darren McHugh Sorry to say this Darren, but you WATCH with your eyes and LISTEN with your ears. If you do not appreciate the effort made to recreate the serenity of the countryside, just mute the sound on your device and watch in awed silence.
