- In this video I compare the John Deere Number 5 and Number 38 sickle mowers, as well as a few of the difference between a 1948 and 1951 John Deere Model A tractors.
I reference the 48 as a 47, as this tractor was the first one that we got running, and at the time I didn't know as much about the model A lineup. At the time, the information I found on the SN listed it as a 47 (which I believe which was tractordata, but it shows it correct now), but I later found it to be a 48 model year, but manufactured in July of 47.
Anyway, I apologize for any errors. I'm not an expert, but only draw on what I've seen and learned over the years, so please forgive any technical errors I may have said being off script.
Also seen in the video, but not mentioned, is a John Deere BW and John Deere 5020. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
Have been watching your videos for quite a while now and really love them. It is not only the old John Deere two-cylinder tractors themselves which I grew up on and love, but it is also the beautiful location you have to display them in. And it is really nice to see you going back and again featuring some of the tractors you haven't done videos on in a while. Thanks for the sharing.
A couple of beautiful machines ..love them old John deeres
I also have the original number 5 mower and 227 mounted picker that came with the A
Dad bought a fuel 'A' out of the service in 1946,traded it for a '48 'A' on gas. Kept it his whole farming career until his retirement in 2008. Sold for $4,000! Prolly his best farming friend!!
Kyle, I LOVE your tractors & you live on beautiful land!
I'm on the other side of Wyoming. I've always run old Ford tractors, but I have been watching auctions etc for a John Deere A. If I could poor boy my way into one it would be pretty sweet.
Hope you and yours had a great Christmas! Always love the views of the mountains. I bought a B with a number 5 back in the early 2000s. Like you said alot of those number 5s out there. Have a Happy New Year!
I have my Dad's #5 that I grew up running & learned to mow with, the mounting brackets were called "Quik-Tatch" by Deere and made mounting the mower MUCH easier!
Another tip on the #5: If you have the hand lever, you can raise the bar without needing to start the tractor...
I just just done running my #5 today mowing Ditch banks I got it hooked to a 4010 hope to have a 60 to run it next year. Some day I want to put on a mowing day, like a plow next but I bunch of classic tractors with there classic mowers
I have the 37 and the 39. Mowed a lot of hay with them
Hey Kyle, that was a good comparison of the two! Those are some neat tractors! I have Farmalls ( M, 100 and a IH 274 diesel) but my neighbor has John Deeres ( A and a 420). Great footage! From Sophia, N.C.
I have the 1951 A that my grandfather bought brand new and I have a 1950 G the has the hi lo transmission
I have a #5 with hydraulic cylinder on my 1950 B
I have a 52 A, stays in my dry shop. I’ll bring it out once a yeas for pasture dragging
You didn't have to convert the manifold. The tractor is a multi fuel. It burns gas.
