the movie forgot that the ship was about to split in half but it sank the whole ship without the bow and the stern split
They didn’t forget, it’s just at the time this move was made (1958) the accepted theory was that the ship sank in whole. It was until 1985 when the wreck was discovered that it became apparent that it had broken in two - just as the survivors had described.
