Jamming to the Ebo Taylor tune gave me some Oblivion vibes. We were dancing so hard in the rain to that in Wilmington. The urge to dance to that rhythm is so infectious.
Trey's mellow extrovert energy has inspired and uplifted me for 25 years. Just listening to him talk, with the occasional giggle and "y'know??" is all I need to think things might just be alright after all.
I mean … what do you say about this? This is just the coolest thing ever. This is what the internet promised to be, and sometimes is, when it’s not a horrifying dystopian nightmare. For music fans this is a privilege beyond measure.
Thanks for sharing this Trey! Not at all what I was anticipating for your morning "practice". This was very interesting, your enthusiasm, thoughts and talents are very inspiring! I'm certainly going to make a point to spend more time doing this!
Very african tribal i love it I see now why Trey and Dave Matthews went to Africa for inspiration while both i am sure struggling w addiction (maybe just alcohol for Dave) and trying to get that energy back but it takes sobriety This is great to hear Treys inspiration and heroes and musical favorites albums or artists or both I love this Thanks Trey this is my favorite of the lessons thus far Reminds me of their Fishman HYHU song in 1994 era Phish Wanna Be Like You with Monkey sounds and silly in a great way catchy dancy music
I hear elements of Stevie Wonder too w forest sounds and Bush men using sticks as instruments or garbage can tops I cant get enough of these kind of videos where Trey is just talking about his love of music It would be cool if he just did that w his own songs and told us more about some of the newer songs we dont know the inspiration for so much Some are obvious like Joy being about his daughter and Brian and Robert being about being a sad introvert but some I have no idea what they are about or where the musical ideas came from
TAB Wilshire Theatre, Los Angeles, date unremembered . Trey glided off stage into the crowd playing a cowbell I think. Long story short I was in his way but I was star struck but he nodded like it’s cool man.
I got to meet & talk to Trey back in Burlington’94 when I spent the summer there, he’s still the nicest guy ever 💯

I love this! I’m sitting here winding pickups and it’s so uplifting. I love your spirit Trey. Very inspirational!
I've always wanted to hang out with Trey and listen to music while he noodles on the guitar- this is great!
I love that Trey is exactly the guy you hope he is.
Holy lord this music rocks! Trey should have a weekly show of this stuff

Yes man! I bought that album after hearing MMW cover ‘Mo Ti Mo’ in the mid 90s. Such a beautiful song and album.
This is amazing. What a great teacher/icon/human.

this looks so fun and so easy. but I know it's not. this is 30+ years of a trained ear, and knowing your instrument.
Wow , What a wonderful surprise lesson !! Thanks so much Trey !!! And Tons of Love ❤ from Philadelphia !!!!
Thanks for posting these here :)
Love the painting! Your legend!
I Enjoy these lessons so much! Love you Trey! Thank you for sharing and helping me explore and further my musical journey!
Thank you brotha!
That guitar is just the best. I emailed Paul a few years back and he said he wasn’t doing any builds beyond his current backlog. It’s my white whale.

I can only imagine how that concert must have affected Fishman.
