Don't get me wrong the modularity of the mollie system is good however I still prefer the plce webbing I was issued from cadets. It fit well, could be adjusted alot easier without having to slice up my hands and there was just more space to use

To be fair it wasn't a bad system. Saw the issues with the pouch locking system and so I and a friend changed them all to fast clip. The water bottle pouch was big enough to have a brew kit in with the bottle and steel 58 mug. I only used one small mess tin which had one main meal in. The second ammo pouch had the rifle cleaning kit in. The spade was rarely carried. The bayonet I wore on the front left yoke. Bungees were the main stay as usual holding everything together. We sprayed all ours desert yellow during gulf 1 then on return had issued DPM. But we were already buying chest rigs and day sacks

I bought a set of green PLCE in 1993-94, without utility pouches and the shovel. I wore it instead of the Canadian forces 82 pattern webbing including the rucksack which was crap. I put a Canadian butt packin on the rear instead of pouches, I used a 58 pattern belt with cloth tabs sew on the ends of the belt so I could put a fastex buckle on it. I still have it today but with 2 DPM water bottle pouches as I lost the original green ones. my all time favourite rucksack is the Canadian C64, (I had 3 versions of the 64, OD military, Civilian version of Cadpat (bigger), civilian Multicam based on the original OD dimensions.) I believe it was initially built for the airborne, 💂‍♂️🪖⛑️🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇨🇦

Female yank and retired military veteran here. I retired before the chest rigs you see prevalent in today’s military became readily available for both military and civilian use. Those of of in the national guard (territorials) always get our kits last. That was fine with me because I much preferred the old school Alice gear. Easier and faster to place/remove items and as a gal who wasn’t (how do I say this) flat chested and was living and serving in Texas at the time (entire summers with damn near every day above 100f/38c late may-late august) I learned how user friendly the Alice ilbe kit is for the wearer. Not only does it allow air flow to your shoulders, chest and upper torso it lowers the center of gravity for you! Anyone having to traverse hilly/mountainous terrain, climb or cross water/deep ravines know how critical solid balance is.
Although I do have a chest rig I prefer my Alice set up. The Alice ilbe and PLCE are amazing for hiking, riding motorcycles, fishing…you get the idea. Using kit like this in hiking allows me to carry a smaller pack. Soooo much easier on the back.
    Well done on the video!

I think our forces are going to have trouble if we get into the shit in South East Asia again. We do great when we have the long logistics chain in place but decades of fighting out of trucks (HMMWV, M2 or MRAP) with H2O/Rats Class 1 and Ammunition Class 5 being a radio call away. These TAP rigs issued across the board are all too wide for the average Medium Regular Soldier, all the weight is burdened on the front. In the Asian jungles the only way its going to be usable is to flip it around backwards as a hip rig. The A-TAP convertable Chest Rig/LBE does it a little bit better but still needs improvement. Just like reports back from our volunteers in Ukraine, we got so used to be being spoled by the logistics system that living in austere environments can be a challenge. I wore ALICE LC2 during my 10 years but we didn't have a choice. You couldn't even go out and buy your own "LBV88" Tactical Load Bearing Vest TLBV, you would not be allowed to use it in the field unless the unit was issued it. That whole Dress Right Dress, Everybody Uniform OCD. I see some of the Instructors of the new generation "Jungle School" in Hawaii using late MTP PLCE mixed with MOLLE system. "We" lost tons of insitutional knowledge of Small Unit/Light Infantry/Jungle Warfare TTP over the past 2 decades. Your MOD Jungle School in Belize has a nearly uninterrupted half century of knowledge being passed on to your Troops.

Hi, I am 85 now and watching you lot talking about kit makes me realise that not that much has changed over the years! I served for 20 years using the 37, 44 & 58 British kit and ending up with the US as I served in three different armies. We use to adapt our kit according to where we served and what we had to do in which country. When you consider that we handled working in African savannah, Mediterranean hills and mountains, Gulf sand and Jebels, Malayan and Borneo jungles and wetlands, Hong Kong border and riot control and Vietnam hell, well you did everything you could to carry ammo, water and rations and you never carried a bergen for very long. I liked the 58 gear mixed with whatever was useful. The 37 was just for bull shit. Thank God I kept all my spare gear ( doubled up on everything as had gear in camp and in MQ) so that when I came to NZ I had some decent gear as the Kiwis lived with leftovers from WW II (BD’s and 37 pattern webbing). Yomping over Jebel territory in Muscat & Oman or Yemen with heavy gear like Jerry Cans of water plus your other gear can wear out your body as well as your boots. All the ex Paras I know who settled here or Australia have the same problems with joints and spine injuries. But hell, once a Para, always a hairy ass Para. Cheers mate. Harera

Thanks for another great vid Tom and Gadge, had it really been two years since the last one? Wow! As aways, entertaining and informing. I love the deeper dive in to early PLCE. As someone who used ‘58 patt, early PLCE and the later DPM version, it’s all fascinating stuff.
You’re bang on, the guys did so much modification and customisation to get the kit fit for their role, I remember thinking while PLCE was better than 58, it still had many flaws and where permitted, guys would use a mix.
Will you be covering the later DPM PLCE in another vid? Perhaps leading in to the tailored webbing Tom had?

Great videos guys. As an ex Aussie digger we called ours fatman webbing as we would ditch the mag pouches for the larger minimia pouches as you could fit 6 along your back. During East Timor and early 2000’s a lot of us would private purchase 2nd hand plce 6 point yokes (Aussie H harness was only 4 point) for better comfort. Still today I managed to score a set of DPM dragon supplies belt kit and super comfortable. Always use it on my long 18km hikes. As Tom mentioned about ops waist coat a lot of people especially down under sought SADF M83 battle jackets to have some sort of chest rig.

Whoever came up with those fasteners was a genius. It's really easy to access and secure again even in the most awkward of spots. I use a webbing set to carry my falconry gear in; mainly so I don't have lumpy telemetry (which conveniently friction fits into an ammo pouch, even if it sticks out the top) and canteen knocking around which is what happened in my old hawking waistcoat. It also doesn't get all sweaty which is ace.

It had to accomodate bigger magazines for 7,62x39 Sa Vz 58 (+ CZ75, Sa61 and Dragunov), but for reason unknown, the great utility pouches went shorter and wider and rectangular. Later, Alp company actually made a PLCE utility pouch copy for the MNS-2000 :). But PLCE is the OG of this style of webbing and IMHO the greatest. @AnvilAirsoftTV thank you, definitely going to get spare utility and water pouches then. I heard if you removed the divider that you may fit 2 of them but hasn't been able to get a definitive answer anywhere

I bought a PLCE webbing set a while ago and my 2 water bottle pouches hang really low compared to all the other pouches, I want to know what would fix that

I have a genuine question: Why do you guys put the pouches in the back?
If u can't see what u doing back there

Means the weight is carried on the hips. Anything you need to get to in a hurry is in the ammo pouches. The main reason is to be able to go to ground and crawl. Anything in a pouch you can’t see would only be used whilst ina safer area. Eating etc or accessible to your buddy who can get it for you.

You also always can kind of "swing around" the belt to bring the back pouches up front, when you are not in a hurry. Last but not least, for many things in the army, this was maybe your only carry system for everything for the day, drop heavy bergen somewhere and go light with just PLCE.

@@phh2400 That is more like the SAS "junglie" type set up known as an "escape belt" with no yoke, if you are infantry or similar the yoke has to be dropped down to access rear pouches in the way you suggest. I read recently of an SAS officer in Borneo who had to drop his Bergen, ditched his belt and then evaded Indonesians with just a compass. He could not do that with a Yoke. One disadvantage of no yoke is if you run it can slip and trip you up.
In my own case i have mostly used a light weight simple two strap yoke that crosses at the back which can be stored in a pocket, daysack or bergen if not in use. So i can do what you suggest.
For longer stints i used PLCE with the mesh cut out and an added rear brace strap in the gap, as my back used to sweat like hell. I tried US H and Y types, (Y are very uncomfortable) then settled for a modified PLCE type of the 6 point design.

Every time i see English guys and there airsoft i think about all those firearms that was destroyed.
We have to fight every day somwere here in the U.S. to keep ar firearms.
The anti gunners reall amped it up after England and then Canada lost there gun rights. They thought they were gong to steam roll are gun rights away.
I like the gear thanks for sharing.

The vast majority of people over here are generally quite happy with the firearms laws that we do have. The US and UK are two very different countries with very different cultures.
