The "Shut up seagull" bit! haha! good video Zo you're helping lots of people with videos like this so good on you :)
Hey joe! And yeah I agree
yes :) you really help people
I agree!
Lol people call me zo 2 !
Love u joe and gr8 video zoe, ur my insoeration
I suffer from panic attacks triggered by family-related anxiety (i.e. I am petrified by the thought of my parents dying) so if my dad doesn't pick up the phone - I'm gone. It goes through phases such as not listening to the words others are saying, to heart palpitations and cold sweats. What I've found helps me is talking to myself - you may look mad but you know yourself. I often say to myself when I feel an attack coming "Right, this has happened before, think logically, this is temporary, everything is fine" and then try to focus on something that is close to me - like if I'm in a restaurant, I'll focus on a pepper pot!
Sometimes, it won't work and I'll have a sudden need to escape the situation - such as rushing outside. As Zoe said, fresh air helps a LOT. The colder the better. Heat does not help panic attacks!
Usually I'm not alone when these attacks happen, I'm usually lucky enough to have my boyfriend there who has learnt how to cope with my attacks and knows how to keep me in a calm mindset when something is about to happen. When I'm alone, I'll sometimes call a friend or the other parent (so if my dad's not answering his phone, I'll call my mum) because these people know what I'm going through. It's good to confide in people so they can help you! Thank you for making this video, Zoe. It's going to help a lot of people.
Me too. If my mum doesn't answer the phone I will start panicking & when she comes home I can finally breath! Whenever I wake up and she's not there I will scream her name:0
this same thing happend last year but I got better to the point where it went away. It's the worst thing I've ever felt before. Your not alone.
Ellie Simpson Me too. I thought it was only me...
I think ur comment will help a lot of people as well Emma including me x
No you're not don't worry;) Peran Smethers
I suffer from anxiety, depression, self harm, and suicidal thoughts. If you think you are alone, You Are Not! Just stay strong and one day we will break free from our problems. *UPDATE* It's like 2 years later and I'm getting way better, I haven't cut in over 6 months and I am happy now. Things DO get better, just keep fighting
we're all in this together!
+Tori Izag high school musical!!
yeah!
I don't think I have anxiety , sometime I think of suicidal thoughts not much depression I am Super Super Super self conscious and I am now scared of everyone including teachers which I usually get along with.I just feel like everyone hates me or is judging me . :)
Hey, so I was diagnosed with a severe anxiety disorder as a kid, but I got off of my medication and stopped seeing therapists a few years ago because I thought I was ready to manage it on my own, and for a time I was alright. However, in the last year or so things have gotten bad, and my anxiety has started to ruin my life and affected my ability to function, and I've begun to get panic attacks again. I've also started showing signs of depression in the last two years, and I'm so unhappy, stressed, anxious and exhausted I feel like I have to do something about it, and try to get my life under control again. But I really hate therapists, and do not want to go on medication again. Does anyone have any advice for me? Would it be helpful to go talk to someone, or should I just try and manage it on my own? I'm really stuck. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
How to calm yourself down when having an anxiety attack:
5 things you can see
4 things you can hear
3 things you feel
2 things smell
1 thing you can taste
This works for me :)
I had an anxiety attack today and my mom told me to do this so gonna try next time!
+Sarah O'Mahony (itssarah) I don't have anxiety but I'm a very shy person. I cried when we had to do a school dance in front of parents. I panicked and thought people where going to judge me (it wasn't a panic attack) but it all turned out ok in the end. I feel sorry for people that have anxiety, it must be hard to panic a lot so I hope it's ok
3 things you feel.. Do you think about that like : my heart is pounding, hands are shaking or like : you can feel love, happy, etc?
Thank you so much! This has helped me a lot :)
i think she means like physically feel, like the wooden floor or your sleeve
i was staring at your eyeliner the whole time
I was like....its so purf! I also like your profile pic of David!
Oh my goodness I thought I was the only one. I listened as well of course, but my goodness.
Me 2 xD
Me too and her eyeshadow lol
me too... - and part of my name is clifford
Around halfway through this video I started to feel my anxiety coming in and ended up pausing for a while and coming back. Anyway, such a helpful video for people who don't know how to handle their anxiety Zoe.
usually mine happen when I'm alone but around lots of people, so generally I call someone who knows how to calm me down.
I had a panic attack half way through also.... Probably because we were thinking about it
Same thing happened to me! I'm trying to finish watching it now because I had a panic attack last night watching it! :c
Same thing happened to me.
Yeah I had to do the same but great video really😊👌💕
I have a tip: NEVER EVER THINK 'WHAT IF' WHEN HAVING ANXIETY. If you do be a little strict for yourself. Also sometimes it works to say to yourself in your head. I am scared. Nothing bad will happen. There is no reason to be scared. This will pass.
But this will not. I hate people like you.
+Velett Yes it will, it passed for me and it will for you.
Velett well sweetie how do you know if would have never had anxiety, I have anxiety every freaking day so you better shut up I was trying to maybe help people.
Internet So you think I don't ? I won't make any conflict out of it. But when people just say "It's okay if you believe in yourself!" that pisses me off, if I could, I would.
Thanks❤
I suffer from anxiety . I get over stressed about unessarcry things and cry and feel in danger
I saw somewhere that if you're having a panic attack, that doing star jumps help
...it helps to focus on your breathing etc :)
Are those also called jumping jacks? Lol that has worked for me, I have to concentrate on moving and breathing so it helps calm me down enough to get back into a rational thought process
Erin Fogg Yeah they are :) It's all about taking your mind off of it :)
i saw it in OITNB
ahhh yes!! that was it!! ^^
Mark Ferris such a good show
I have anxiety, and find it really hard to give eye contact to people.. I think everyone is watching me and omg being in crowds is the worst! D:
I have a similar problem, except I also have a fear of telling my family and the majority of my friends about them. A few weeks ago I had a small panic attack where I couldn't breathe in the night and I told my mum, but I never told her it was a panic attack and that I get it often. I get really nervous when any kind of presentation or speech comes up in school, my eyes will water and I'll get really hot and sweaty. I always feel like people are watching me and judging me all the time and it makes me really nervous around people. Although thats when I feel nervous I tend to get panic attacks when I'm alone, I often feel like I'm having a heart attack and I'm going to die and I can't convince myself that its only a panic attack.
You should start talking to your mum! It will probably help you and you can get someone to help you I know how you feel :( stay strong
Not that easy unfortunatly, I feel like they'll say I'm just exaggerating or its just lack of sleep. Its not that I don't trust my family
Secretly A Malfoy well you won't find out until you try :)
Poor u;-(
I get anxiety when somebody says they feel sick or they are sick! ITS HORRIBLE. If you don't have anxiety your lucky!
oh...
well im not afraid of myself vomiting im afraid of someone else vomiting!
*GAMER GIRL* me too, only others!!
*GAMER GIRL* Me too!! Im 13 And ive Had panic attacks since i was 8 and a phobia of vomit For as long as i can remember! the best thing to do is get out the situation and Control your breathing. Just remember you are controlling yourself xx
The Music Shack thanks for the advice😀
*GAMER GIRL* Your welcome!😀😀
Does anyone else find that if you focus on your breathing more your panic attack gets worse, or is it just me?
Nitika Grace me too!
Nitika Grace completely me
angelique je Thanks for the tip :) And don't worry your English was perfect
Nitika Grace yes! Because when I'm panicking, I struggle to breathe, and then I panick more because I can't breathe properly
same
A friend of mine has anxiety. I have never been beside her when she has a panic attack, but whenever she does, she texts me. She says that taking helps her feel better. When she texts me in those cases she tells me all she's going through, how she feels, she gets out everything that's bottles up, I let her relieve everything she wants. I just listen and tell her I'm here for her, I tell her she's perfectly safe. I guess the best thing to do if you have a friend with anxiety is to listen to them. To really listen.
Hey we have the same name and you're a good friend
As a person who has anxiety, YES. Having someone who REALLY listens to us (people with anxiety) is really helpful and sooo relieving. It feels so good to know that someone cares even when anxiety tells us they don't.
By the way, if you ever see someone having a panick attack... PLEASE, stay calm. The worst thing when you have a panick attack is seeing other people panicking because of you. So, just talk calmly, ask the person if they need water/air/anything, help them sit down (if they want to).. But please, be calm. :D
I wish I had a friend like you 😓
+Lucia Estefan I too have anxiety, when i had a panic attack though, my friends completely left me...
+ReadableDiary That's not very nice friends :/ I've also had friends like that for like 4-5 years. But I "dumped" them earlier this year, because having that kind of friends is just the same as having no friends. :(
I think she is so brave to be able to talk so openly about this. Well done and well done to everyone who suffers from anxiety or panic attacks
My advice just in general for an anxiety attack is to breath, I had to give a speech the other day, and it was almost my turn, and and I started to freak out like I was starting to hyperventilate and tapping my foot a lot (which is something I do when I am very anxious), and starting to shake. The person next to me (who I know but not very well) noticed me starting to freak out and told me to breath and the words registered and I listened. It calmed me down just enough so that I could stand up and give the speech. For people who don't have anxiety, if you notice somebody starting to have an anxiety attack, saying something calming can help a lot. I have them a lot, especially when I have to present to a group or even walking past a group of people in public. I have this weird feeling that they're all watching me and judging me (even though I'm just waking and they most likely don't give a shit about me).
Thank you :)
+livvy elizabeth thank you for that:)
If i have to give a presentation I will freeze and everything will shut down and I can't control it nothing works I can't even talk or even breath sometimes
Breathe and let it happen. There is no escaping a panic attack once the adrenaline is pumping through your system, you have to let it takes its course. It will eventually subside. If you can use this mindset, and can allow the sensations to pass, eventually you will lose the fear of the sensations which is more than half the battle.

Is it normal to have anxiety attacks for no apparent reason?? Like I will be sitting at home then I start to panic of no reason at all and I feel like I'm dying
I think it can really happen any time. it depends what's happening in your life or the amount of stress you have at that moment in your life. I've had a panic attack just now and is 2 in the morning...I was asleep. but I woke up and felt like I was dying. it's normal. don't worry.
Yes! Same :(
mackenzie hope that's what mostly happens with panic attacks. That is perfectly normal, don't worry. You'll be ok
mackenzie hope me too I have emetaphobia fear of throw up and my panic attacks make me feel like I'm going to throw up and I start panicking even more
Kenziecole _green I have exactly the same thing and the fear on being sick makes me panic more which makes me feel more sick and it just goes in a big cycle. If u feel like u r going to be sick count to 15 from the moment you feel sick, if u don't throw up within those 15 seconds u won't be ❤️❤️
Zoeellaaa this is just wonderful
may try that massage thing :) not heard of that one before! thanks :) x
You can't slow your heartbeat that way. Idiot.
hansel4150 No need to be rude
This is actually really calming. Rubbing any parts of your soon during a panic attack can be really helpful. I find rubbing circles on your palms and also pushing the pressure points on your wrists can really help calm you down when feeling anxious x
You can blow on your left thumb to slow down your heartbeat, it's weird, but it works!
I just love how people in the comments below are not being judgemental and rude, it's quite refreshing to see. I love how we are helping watch other out. This how the CZcams community should be, a place where you can escape all the negativity in your life and just come on to a platform where you can get positive vibes from. Thanks guys.
Muna lii 100% AGREE!!! Take care =)
Just because it's in your head, doesn't mean it's not real!
THANK YOU!!!! Ugh if I had a dollar for every time someone told me "it's Just in your head, Just stop!" Gosh!! 💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸💸
Denise Ockey Is that a Harry Potter reference or...?
I have anxiety and panic attacks and its really stressful but watching zoe helps in a way so thanks zoe😘
I know, even if my anxiety and panic attacks don't go away watching Zoe talk about it is really conforting!
I have anxiety and your videos have been like an escape for me. another thing that tends to help me is performing (which is a weird thing to say), so I typically start singing or volunteer to read a part of a Shakespeare show, since we're reading that now.
for anyone reading this, and you too, Zoe. you are not alone. you are loved. you are worth it. you aren't letting anyone down. you can do it. you are beautiful. and also,
I believe in you.
also, I can say that the playlist (or song at least) works for me. the song I can listen to is "home" by one direction (obviously because I am a huge fan) and the lyrics "when you're lost, I'll find the way and I'll be your light. you will never feel like you're alone." this really helps me. I love it.
+Catie Tomlinson 卌 hi, i know I am late to this video and you probably won't reply but I have seen you on quite a lot of comments and I wanted to ask your opinion or any one else's. My mum and people around me think I have anxiety, I have had panic attacks before but not a lot but I always feel like people are judging me or looking at me, I hate talking or just being in front of people and sometimes even people I know but I don't know really well, I have nightmares a lot of the time, I can't be in busy places and be surrounded by a lot of people even if I go know them and most of the time I just feel anxious about everything. I also over think everything which makes me even more anxious. I am just hoping that you or anyone else can reply and help me and when watching this video and reading other comments I have all the symptoms they have said. Please be honest with me and let me know if you have any ideas to help me. Thank you
+Georgia k hi georgia ! I do not suffer from panic attacks myself, but i do have social anxiety and i always have, ever since i can remember. Overthinking the smallest things, thinking that people are staring at you/ laughing at you, i always hate answering questions in school and if i do my heart races for up to five minutes after, i can also feel estranged from like the world and feel as if im not really there- like if im in a conversation with my group of friends, i can suddenly feel like theyre all just moving their mouths and that im not really there 😂 (idk how to explain). Im no expert and i havent been to have expert advice because its a part of who i am because ive always been like it and people know that, and i kinda keep to myself quite alot. But i think that if your panic attacks are affecting your life alot and that you are concerned or have the same thing as zoe (and many other people) and have anxiety disorder then i think you should maybe see someone so they can try....
hi! As I was reading your comment, and you were saying the symptoms you have i realized that I have all of them symptoms as well. I do think I have social anxiety and I told my mum I may have a type of anxiety. She said to do some research on it and see what happens. Thank for sharing this as it has really helped and even given me a little bit of confidence to share this with my mum xx :)
+Georgia k It's no problem, and im so glad to hear! I find it rally hard to talk to my parents about things so i think that you have alotta courage ;) I hope that things get better, because they always do. Sometimes living/ dealing with something is the only way you can help it xxx I'm so very glad that i helped and if you ever need anything just drop and email !! xxx
Zoella aka Zoe Sugg is fast becoming the best the UK has to offer as someone who is real, going through real issues and has a genuine interest in helping those around her. She's a role model with wide appeal. To get on camera for twenty minutes, talk about her fears and do it so eloquently stands head and shoulders above everyone else I can think of (especially anyone on TV).
I sincerely hope Zoe (and those around her) can cope with all that's coming her way today, tomorrow and the next few years - as I believe she's destined for greatness. She has the power, we know she's responsible (and wants to lead), so all we can pray for is Zoe to keep winning the battle with anxiety and panic attacks. There are only a few people in this world, you truly respect - and Zoe is one of them :)
Amen... wow i really loved your nice words because they are so true. I love she talking so open about her anxiety and she is in general a real person, as we can see from her vlogs and stuff. She is not trying to be anyone else... she is a real rolemodel
Amen is all I can say. Truer words haven't been spoken my friend :)
Lena Niebuhr Zoe is still only 24, and knowing that _every_ video she makes gets over a million views, will be so much pressure. From what I know, it's a real full time job for one person (or a small team) - having the idea, planning it all, shooting, editing, uploading and then feeding back and commenting. She makes it look _so easy_ ..
***** Thank you :)
eline swarts Thank you too :)
I"ve been going to see a therapist because of my Anxiety/depression and my tip is to think externally instead of internally essentially this means to distract yourself. Look at people and things a bit like Zoe said look at people and think they've got a nice colour top on I wonder where its from ect. Your breathing is key! the other day I started to have a panic attack and I controlled my breathing and it went! I was so proud of myself that I was able to tell myself that I'm ok nothing is going to happen. xx
Does anyone get panic attacks out of nowhere? And sometimes due to hypochondria/health anxiety? Does it feel like your heart is cramping/squeezing. Hyperventilation, Dry mouth, And fast heart rate , skipped beats, and shaking? All my tests are clear, and doctors say it's my anxiety that's causing these panic attacks. It doesn't feel like it. I am anxious all the time now 😢😢😢 THIS IS HORRIBLE! My heart physically feels like its being squeezed and I've seen 3 cardiologists and had tests done which all come out normal. and they put it down to anxiety I can't get the "what if they missed somthing" out of my mind. It feels like I'm dying 😭😭😭😭
i've been through there too. I have hypocondria, and that's terrible, every part of my body hurts and I think I'm gonna die.
Tiff xoxo I get that all the time mainly In school I do try to avoid it but it makes it worse
I do
Tiffany Jackson, Yes. I woke up with a horrible attack with just those symptoms this morning. You think the symptoms are different from previous attacks but they aren't. I recommend joining an anxiety support group on facebook. You get to help others and they will help you.
Thank you guys! It makes me feel less alone. 💕💕💕
Brilliant video Zoe!
I don't get panic attacks, but I get really bad anxiety when I travel - even just to London to the point I feel sick. I find that breathing exercises really help, and cold air. I hope this video helps many people!
nice (Y)
Me too! I do get panic attacks though, I went on holiday twice last year, one with my mum and one with my dad, the first holiday which was with my mum, I was totally fine until i got there. This was the first time is ever had a panic attack or really noticed any anxiety. I was totally fine during the day, but as soon as I came near food i started boking, even while chewing during my dinner. My mum thought i was doing it because I've always been self conscious about my weight, but I honestly wasn't. I didn't want to be boking, but I couldn't stop it. I had ALOT of panic attacks that summer when I got home. Then a month later when I went on the holiday with my dad, I took a really big panic attack in the airport because I was scared that I felt the same this holiday as I did when I went with my mum. I had a little bit of the eating difficulty, but over all I was fine. By the end of the year my panic attacks had stopped. I feel that making sure your not in a position that makes you uncomfortable that may trigger a panic attack. I don't notice my anxiety much anymore, which is great. Just stay strong and know that you will get over it. Try as best you can to live your life normally and don't let anxiety to become a big thing about you.
Love u Cherry x
When I'm in most public situations, I get extreme anxiety, I start feeling really hot. I start figeting even more than normal, and usually that triggers my depression because I feel like I'm making whatever situation in horrible for the person/people I am with. It has gotten really bad now, the worst I've ever experienced. It has come to the point where I would much rather just be alone in my room because if I leave I feel like my own family will judge me. I get extremely paranoid over what people will think of me, this has caused me to never even want to leave my home. I have tried to tell peopel, but it comes off to them as if I'm just being dramatic and overexaggerating, and the fact I dont have anyone to turn too hurts the most. I dont really want to talk to councilors because I dislike talking with strangers, even if I was to like call one of those hotlines for this sort of thing, I still get the feeling of being judged.
I really recommend 7/11 breathing. So breathing in for 7 and breathing out for 11. Because the exhale is longer, it slows the heartbeat down. I'm pretty sure some use this technique in the army when soldiers are suffering from PTSD and it is guaranteed to slow down the heart.
Freya Mosedale also imagine you are exhaling your stress and problems and breathing in relaxation and happy thoughts 💭
Freya Mosedale thank you this seems really helpful I will try this
I have an extreme phobia of vomiting and have ever since I was little. It's comforting to see everything you do even though you have anxiety! Thank you for making this video, this is a very important topic.
Hey :) I have the same phobia, it's called Emetophobia, totally debilitating a lot of the time! I've improved slightly but it's still so scary, right now I'm so freaked out but I use realistic thinking to put things into perspective. Good luck xxx
I know, it's very hard :/ but it's best to think realistically like you said! best of luck! :)
+Melissa Handibode I have the same phobia. For me it just started about 3 years ago though. I don't know how to control my panic attacks though because I panic because I feel sick and then panicking makes me feel more sick so it's just a horrible cycle. Do u have any tips for this kind of phobia specifically?
Did something happen to bring this out? A lot of times I will call or talk to someone when I'm feeling super anxious, and breathing deeply really does help too. I also would look into seeing a psychiatrist for this if it is depleting your quality of life. I decided to go on Prozac after seeing a psychiatrist and it helped tremendously! Good luck, you're not alone!
I find when I'm Anxious I get lonely, but the Zoella Fandom is a place where I dont feel lonely, You're a true idol/hero to anxiety sufferers and even people who dont suffer.
Because everyone is here for you in this fandom x
Thats why its the best and most comfortable fandom! :D I love Zoe because she just relates so much. Which because I'm a boy people don't expect her to but she just does.
100% agree!
This is a great video Zoe and an awesome way to use your channel to help your audience. Can't wait to reunite with you and the crew at vidcon!
This is cute
aw your so sweet Finn
Awhh
Aww your so sweet Finn!
She such a great person, helped me out a lot thanks zoe love you always xxxxxx
To be honest, the day I told my cousin I had anxiety was one of the best days in my life
You just hit the nail on the head about my fear of flying, I don't get scared of it crashing it's just the concept of being stuck xxx
Has this gotten any better, I just feel so trapped x
I have panic disorder and yet I've still applied to go on a student exchange alone to the other side of the world for 3 months. Terrifying, but necessary for me to prove I can be strong out of my comfort zone.
Two of my sisters have done that for 6 months and they loved it and they said the first weeks are hard but it gets easier and you will love it :) breathe relax x hope this helps
that's amazing, well done! i know people who have done similar things and they never regretted it for a second... enjoy!!!!
***** That is so reassuring thankyou! Everyone's so lovely on Zoe's videos :)
That's really great, I'm proud!! :)) I have panic attacks too and i could never do that..
i understand you, i have panic attacks too, but its the best to just do it! at the end of the day you will be proud about yourself!
I've had generalized anxiety disorder for 5 years now. At one point it was so bad, I had to be home schooled as I was having them one after another, all hours of the day. I've been on numerous medications and seen more doctors than I care to count. None of that really seemed to help me. I had this mindset that the doctors and the meds were supposed to cure me and eventually I came to the realization it was something I had to cure myself of. Anytime I feel an anxiety attack coming on I say to myself "Every storm will pass." Sounds sort of dumb I know, but it helps me to rationalize what's going on. I remind myself that what I'm feeling will pass and whatever it is that is troubling me will also.
I'm in a similar situation right now. I just finished my senior year of high school being home schooled because of anxiety and depression. And I've also been on many medications and seen countless doctors. I have to go to college in the fall, which is going to be horrible. I'm just wondering, how did you get past the worst point? Was it really just the realization that you had to cure yourself? And if so, how do you do that? I know those are hard things to answer so anything would be appreciated :)
While going through the worst of it, I got a lot of support from my family. they would sit up with me until 4-5AM almost every morning until I was calm enough to sleep. Support from others helps a lot but there's only so much they can do. Rationalizing it with yourself is what I find to be the best at combating it. Remind yourself that it's just messed up brain chemicals. Tons of people go through the same thing. It's something you're familiar with and no matter how bad an attack has been, you always get over it. Reminding myself of these things helps. I wish you the best of luck with school and I hope you get everything under control.
***** Thank you so much, that definitely helps
I had to be homeschooled too because I would have panic attacks. The point that made me decide to "fix" it was when I felt like I was missing out on too many things and anxiety had taken over. I was tired of it. I am now in college and some days are harder than others, but as long as u keep pushing urself a little everyday, it will become easier for u. I truly believe that YOU can be in charge ur anxiety and do well in college and in life in general :-)
***** That makes a lot of sense actually. Every person has their own way of dealing with it. For me, I get really anxious which makes me feel sick in the stomach, then I feel like I am going to throw up, then I get even more anxious and it is just a huge snowballing effect. I've had this phobia of vomiting for ages now and I've only just recently found out how to manage it, and that is to think of three things that are different. For instance, if you have had a past experience that ended badly due to anxiety, you can think of three things that are better now, or just three things that are comforting, such as when I was on a rollercoaster I just assured myself that it was safe, and that I can get through it etc. It sounds weird but it works, and if anyone is having trouble with anxiety I do suggest at least giving the technique a go, just to see if it helps you personally :)
to anyone who's watching and reading comments in 2016.
i suffer from anxiety for a couple of years now and last year i spent 14 weeks in a hospital for mental illnesses and i learned one thing there that helps me EVERY TIME i have a panic attack. well i live in germany and there's this game called 'Stadt-Land-Fluss' (city-country-river). and my tip is to basically do this in your head and put all your concentration on playing this game. Think of a random letter. then start with cities and think about all the cities that come to your mind beginning with the letter you just picked. then move on to every country that you can think of. continue with rivers. and then you can move on with names, animals and jobs.
i hope it can help some of you.
it will get better, never forget that ❤
greetings from germany!
Also another thing to help is find 5 things you can see, 4 things you can hear, 3 things you can feel, 2 things you can smell and 1 thing you can taste
i think on long run the best thing is to talk a lot about it, see a therapist if you feel comfortable (depends how bad your anxiety is) and work on yourself. do things out of your comfort zone, don't let your anxiety dictate what you do, what you think and what you think you are. do what makes you happy, be yourself and never give up. greetings from croatia from a individual living with anxiety for 22 years! i started the battle a year ago and i feel better but i know there's still a long trip ahead of me.
+Katayah Jackson ^^ agreeing with this even if you don't have anxiety/suffer from panic attacks, this helps a lot when you get nervous. I always did it before sports games and stuff and it helps a ton :)
tell me, does anyone's chest and heart get really tight? xx
Yes! I have felt like this on and off for a few days. I've told my mum but she just said it's down to stress but I think I should see a doctor about it xx
Lottie Grey literally I feel the exact same xxx
Should I see a doctor? It lasted about four days on and off. I was really stressed! It happened before though xx
Lottie Grey same, I haven't seen a doctor though xxx
Ah right, it happened a couple of months ago and then it happened again recently xx
I just wanted to share a tip for anyone that might read this and struggles with anxiety like I do. One thing that's great to calm you down is to focus on something else. So what you do is look around you and just name things you see. Then listen to whats around you and names things you can hear. It sounds silly but it's a great way to calm your mind down and take the focus off what you're panicking about.
I agree! If I'm around brick walls, I will count how many bricks there are. Sounds tedious but really helps get my mind off of my anxiety.
I got a game called "jumbline" which gives you a set of letters and you have to spell as many words with those letters as you can, It always helps calm me
I get anxiety before I sleep. So what should I do then?
Grace McGregor what is the anxiety about? Like something specific?
Grace McGregor I kind of understand what you mean, recently I was stressed so many nights over my upcoming ACT. I would get a little bit of a headache trying to sleep so I would put some pressure on my head with my hand, and just breathe in and out deeply and drift away into sleep. I really hope that helped. :)
as terrible as anxiety is, I think it's lovely that's it's brought us all together in the comments to share our stories and help each other out, even just by reassuring someone they're not alone. it really does seem to be helping, thanks everybody! 💖
How do I calm myself down in a short amount of time in school? I get really sweaty palms, hyperventilate, get a lump in my throat, get really hot, start to cry when I get a panic/anxiety attack. Since I'm not a big speaker, it usually happens when I'm around complete strangers that I have to talk to or when I have to present something at school. Since I sometimes have to go first because my last name starts with an A, it's not too bad but, my teachers like to use the "lets pick a name at random because that's fun!" That actually makes my anxiety worse. I have about 10 seconds to a minute to compose myself so I don't start crying or pass out. I realized this wasn't normal a long time ago because when others either took a nice long steady breath then started or they just started talking whereas I am on the verge of tears, fidget, shake, and have a shaky breath/voice. I really want this to stop because it's effecting my grade A LOT. I'm really scared to check my grades.
+Penelope Loves Books u might want to have ur parents or just urself talk to the teacher
+Msp Glam4evas my teacher knows and I think all of the students know too because of how I breathe and how badly I shake. It's really obvious.
oh that sucks :( but maybe if everyone knows then ur teacher should really avoid situations that make u feel uncomfortable :(
+Msp Glam4evas she can't because we're practicing for the final exam in May
oh im sorry have u tried any like techniques to make u feel less stressed?
This video always makes me feel so comforted whenever I'm having a down day. When I hear you talk about that the same things that I struggle with it makes me feel so much better and reminds me that I'm not alone. I love you
The best thing to do that I've learned also living with anxiety is to just keep going. I've avoided situations because I've been scared to have a panic attack. However, within the last year, I have been putting myself into more stressful situations. Yes, I have had panic attacks, but once it's done, I realize "I'm still alive" and then I can slowly continue with what I was doing. My panic attacks have become fewer and a lot less worse, and I've really learned to enjoy life! So to those who also suffer from anxiety, keep calm (LOL - yeah right) and keep moving on!
You're such an inspiration zoe!! When ever i'm told to talk in front of people I either just can't do it or freak out and get extremely stressed, I hate it:(
I feel ya bro. Love your videos btw xx
same
Hii, I'm not really good at advice but I'm the same. What i do is just go for it and i no its hard but i just look at one particular spot in front of me, for example a clock or poster and trust me it really helps. If you feel as if people are judging you just think that they will have to do it and you can face it, if you face them and do what you have to do they wont judge you for doing it x
Well i hoped that helped or that will be embarrassing xD
I'm not a professional its just from past experience x
I feel youuuu even after uni, im still afraid
I'm the same way. Whenever I have to speak in front of a group of people, sometimes even if I know every person there, I feel my heart racing really fast, I'm blushing, my hands are shaking and I have difficulties breathing calmly and it feels like there's something stuck in my troath. What I think sometimes helps is that I find a person in the crowd that I know really well and that I'm really comfortable with and look at them if I feel that I'm too nervous, so if you have a really good friend in the crowd it may help if you look at them when you speak because you know they won't judge you. Also I try to breath calmly and look out over the crowd when I speak, but I won't really look anyone in the eyes, at least not if I'm really nervous, just look out over the crowd a few times. That way it will look like you're a lot more confident than you are. :)
I just had a massive anxiety attack and I came to this video. Thank you so much for making this. It's so nice to know that you aren't alone.
As a fellow anxiety-sufferer, I can relate so much. I hate the depersonalisation experience when you're speaking to someone and you're listening but not hearing their words. There needs to be so much more of this online and it's so good that big names, such as Zoella, are bringing anxiety into the limelight because so many suffer alone, in the dark. Love and support to all you guys reading this, and, of course, to Zoella herself!
I'm sure this video will genuinely help thousands of people - if only more youtubers were like Zoe
I totally agree.
True
..or just listen to Zoella's accent, that's helping a lot to!
Do you like a British Accent? I am British too. Where are you from? X
Lucy Bennett SWEDEN! :)
ManfredErlandsson i love this accent too, i'm from Poland :*
***** "never heard that before" *lol*. My friends tell me that A LOT ;) But thank you I guess!
***** Aw you're so sweeeeeet
I keep on rewatching your video on this because it makes me feel so comfortable. To know that I am not alone. Zoe, you just described everything I feel that I've been hiding for a long time. I too am overthinker and get over sensitive when I am not yet supposed to be fearful or alarmed. getting and feeling sick is my attack trigger. It really helps that someone is there who understand. they dont have to do anything, just be there. Thank you for this, Zoe.
Watching this years later, and I’m still learning new things! Thank you Zoe for uploading this! It’s helpful!❤️
I suffer from anxiety disorders.
I constantly feel like I'm on stage and that everyone is judging me. I can't even talk on the phone or order my own food. Getting up to get a napkin or something at a like a fast good restaurant makes me anxious because I feel like everyone is looking at me and judging me. Going up to a cash registering and paying for my stuff makes me afraid. There are times I just wouldn't even leave the house. I get so anxious that I shake, cry, feel like I'm going to throw up, & just have extremely nervous behavior. I'm constantly worrying and overthinking things. It's so hard to talk to people and do things in front of people. I only talk unless I have to, otherwise I never talk. I want to talk to people and I want their approval, but I'm too afraid to. I get stressed easily. I'm afraid of situations and overthink / worry about things that that I don't need to be afraid or worry about. Like something happens and that's all I will think about. It's a constant battle in my own head.
You may want to look into therapy or possibly medication. x
I used to be a lot like this, for me it got better after a while of me opening up about it. I Also went to a pro in these types of things witch i feel like you could really benefit from. Take care xx
This sounds 100% like me and probably loads of other people too so trust me, you are not alone! I would really consider speaking to someone professionally and looking into anxiety medication. If you likee you can message me on the youtube messages because by the sound of your comment we are both suffering from very similar things and I'd love it if we would be able to help eachother out some more. Lauren
Aww! :( I'm sorry I hope you can get better! Xxxx
i used to be like that too...what has helped me and reduced that feeling over the years is to slowly one by one start maybe talking more to some people in class then you start to feel more comfortable....and just slowly do other things that really scare you maybe do them with one other person then gradually try yourself and just remember and keep telling yourself in your head while you do them 'they dont care, you are fine, they wont judge you, just keep calm, you can do this' just belivie in yourself and over time you should feel a little more confident although it can take a while also dont overthink to much i do still just think positvely or just think.. for example if you did an exam"ok maybe i didnt do to well on that but you never know and at least its past me now i dont have to worry no more and hopefully it was good" and then try to forget about it...now im not a therapist,i honestly dont know too much about this but i just hope this does somehow even a little bit help you :) if it dont then it would be the best idea to speak to a therapist
I actually just made a vlog about how I deal with everyday life anxieties :)
always proud of you Zoe!
I love your videos Jana!
Jana you're awesome !!
I was having a panic attack in school a few weeks ago, I asked if I could stand outside and I was allowed. I was outside for maybe about 2 minutes when my teacher came out. He started to bombard me with questions and what's wrong, and it just made me feel more panicky. Best thing you can do is just as Zoë said, say things like 'you can get through this' or 'this won't last forever.' Something along those lines.
This was genuinely the most helpful video ever for me! I have suffered with anxiety for 8 years and this made me feel so much less alone!
I suffer from anxiety and I find it difficult to open up to people about it. If someone asks I will just reply with "I have anxiety, I'm fine" but I can't sit down, bring it up and talk about it without the fear of people thinking I'm attention seeking. I don't know what to do 😭
I understand you completely! It's so difficult to open up about anxiety when you are worried that people will think you're faking it. If you are showing physical symptoms perhaps people will realise it's actually a thing! :)
Bella Johnson I know that it's really hard to talk to someone but I guess you should talk to someone you really trust and who will understand you. If you feel like there's no one, talk to an adult, reach out for help, see a doctor, that's really important. Bottling up your emotions is going to make you feel worse, and I promise that it's going to make you feel much better to talk to someone :)
+Bella Johnson same
+Bella Johnson I get the exact same thing. I have a few friends that have anxiety and so I always tell myself that they are experiencing it on a much more extreme level than I am, when honestly they probably aren't, and so I find it difficult to talk about as I feel like they will just dismiss it as me trying to 'fit in' or something of those likes. I also have this issue where when I'm actually talking to someone about it, for example if someone asks me to explain the symptoms and what it feels like, It usually just triggers my anxiety or an immediate panic attack there and then just from thinking and talking about it.
Something that really helps for is just constantly reminding myself that i'm probably not bothering the person as much as I think I am. In fact I've had a couple times where I've been with one of my friends who doesn't have anxiety during a panic attack and they've always said things like "I don't know what to do to help you, i'm sorry" or "I just really want to help but I don't know how" so mostly all the person is thinking is 'how can I help them?' as opposed to 'Oh god she's overreacting, shes just doing this for attention' etc etc.
Also I know how hard it is to talk about but just find someone you're really comfortable with and just make yourself talk about it. I find that talking about it really helps because once at least one person knows what you're going through they can help you get past it and calm you down. If you don't open yourself up to help then your anxiety will just be prolonged and seem worse than it is because you feel as though you're in it alone when your really just creating that situation for yourself. I also think that talking to a therapist or school counselor can help if you really don't have any friends or family that you are comfortable talking about it with as they're trained in dealing with these situations and see a lot of the same thing probably one after another so they will be able to help you work through it and I can assure you they won't judge you or think you seeking attention.
Obviously this is just what works for me but I hope this helps.
:)
literally same. only my doctor, my parents, and closest friend knows because they all know that i really, actually do meds for anxiety. 😷
After I have a panic attack, I suffer from the effects of it for days like feeling dizzy and my heart beating faster. It usually happens during school
Me too...
After panic attacks, I got dizzy and it made the situation even worse... And I became more anxious
Me too, you're not alone♡
How tho cuz i get panic and anxiety attacks every day im 14 Male and im put on kolonopine and xanax. I suffer from panic disorder, bipolar disorder, and generelized anxiety disorder and i dont feel anxious afterwards😭
I have depersonalization with anxiety. The worst feeling ever.
+Anna V. Me as well! Feeling out of it and as if I don't recognize myself is the scariest thing I have ever faced. I've had it for four going on five months now and pray everyday to wake up back to normal ! Stay strong love xx
Thank you so much for sharing this, Zoe, it's extremely relieving to know that all types of people experience similar feelings of panic and anxiety. It makes me feel more normal, ya know? like, even though I freak out sometimes and overthink, i'm still a functioning human being. It really takes away from the bias when successful people admit to regularly experiencing anxiety. Like, it proves that you can have panic attacks and still accomplish your goals.
The first panic attack I remember was about a year ago. I was at a sleepover at my friends house and I got locked in a very small bathroom and I am also very claustrophobic so I was freaking out, I couldn't breathe but after 10 minutes I got out. It was horrible. But luckily I have only had about 3 panic attacks since then.
i'm so proud of you.It has been 4 months since my last panic attack. Life really shows that we can push through!!
Eva Charlotte |-/
For me I have a playlist on my ipod called *Feel Good* basically just a collection of songs that I feel put me in a better mood. Whenever I feel anxiety or stress I turn it on and just let it play through :)
I don't have panic attacks but when I'm in a social situation it becomes hard for me to focus on what people are saying, I feel nervous for no reason, my heart beats fast, so I usually keep quiet since I can't think clear enough. It sucks because I think it holds me back from making connections with people sometimes
I understand you because it happens to me sometimes, its based on your self esteem I think, maybe you think that you will say something stupid and prefer not talking at all..Thats not good, let yourself say whatever you think , be more spontaneous :) And trust me maybe you will become the most funny of your friends :P
I was exactly like you. I haven't made the most drastic change, or at least that's what I think. I have just finished my last year of school (12th grade) and up until 11th I was so scared of everything. I didn't perform so well in studies, I didn't know how to be myself in front of so many people. I just sat quietly in a corner, had fun with my friends but. And then 11th grade came around, and my entire class was shuffled because we all had to choose a new stream of subjects. I was put into a new class, with just 20 people, and I have changed quite a bit, apparently. Idk what it was. I think it was my new circle of friends who raised my self confidence. I felt comfortable in speaking in front of them. And my teachers. Helped me so much without even realizing. I recently read The Secret. And it gives this false sense of hope in my opinion. Which I believe will later turn into real hope. I really liked the first 60 pages or so, I recommend you read it. Oh and sorry for the huge comment :$
Happy for you :) See?? There is always getting better :)
It's okay I get that too💗💗
Thanks guys :]
Something that really helps me when I'm really anxious or on the verge of a panic attack about going to school or whatever's troubling me that day I google "numbers between two dates" and I find the exact number of days I've been alive and i tell myself "you've gotten through this many days you can get through one more" and I know that sounds weird but it really helps to realize that you can actually get through it.
PLEASE MAKE ANOTHER ANXIETY VIDEO you are very relaxing to watch and your videos have calmed me so much.
I have panic attacks of speaking to large groups of people and I keep thinking in my head that I will mess up. I will mess up and maybe everyone would laugh at me and think I'm stupid and I should never speak again. I hate voicing out because I have this anxiety that people will judge me and look at me weird. I'm just sharing this because I know that I'm not alone.
I have that same problem. I tend to stutter a lot, and then I feel like I can't breathe, and I feel like everyone is judging me. I just found out right now that I have anxiety. I never did any research into what was going on. I just thought I was extremely shy, or I was just really depressed. It turns out, that all along I had anxiety. Now I have some tips in case I'm having another panic attack, and I know that I'm not alone because all of these amazing people are saying that they have anxiety too, and I can relate to some of them. You aren't alone. We can get through this together. :)
Ciara Horan same wow i thought that was only me because i always violently shake when im in classrooms is im being asked a question or have to present
I think I get this too, I'm getting so much better now though, although I still find it hard to breath and I have to talk fast I think my classes understand I'm a lil shy now,
What I like to do is think,
I will pick someone in the class (preferabley a confident friend or somone you know) and I think, they are exactly. The same type of person as me. If you put looks and personality to the side, they're the same.
And if they can go up there and confidently speak and not stutter or same a random swear word then I can too! 😊🎀 try it! 😊😄. And seriously. Don't worry xx it will.... Go away! Not straight away but trust me. You'll know when it's getting better, you feel much more confident and free! 😊
I am like that too I no how you feel
i don't like speaking out too because i'm scared i will get judged and everything
This was such a great video Zoe, we hope this helps a ton of people! (we know it will)
I live you both so much and when I feel stressed and anxious I turn on your videos xxx
Hearing about anxiety tips from Zoe is so inspiring. She is such an amazing beautiful person and I often think that if I feel anxious all the time that I can't be very awesome, but to know that someone I look up to goes through the same thing... just extremely helpful.
Hi, Zoe, I'm only 12 years old and went to the doctors to talk about my anxiety and they said I had existential anxiety. They said that it isn't serious, but as I get older it can do a lot of damage, and can be harmful. Knowing that their is other people without anxiety makes me feel so much better. People look at me like I am crazy when I'm at school having a panic attack walking to classes because their is a lot of people. I luckily have good enough friends to help me out. I thought I was alone and nobody else had anxiety like me. That was until I saw your video. That made me feel so much better about myself knowing their was other people that had anxiety and told 10 million people about it. I just wanted to say thank you and I appreciate you a lot.
Zoe's older video on panic attacks helped me a lot. It dramatically helped me gain a lot more confidence and made me feel more comfortable with anxiety. I've now started CZcams and I think it really has helped me a lot, it's taken my mind off of school and stress etc. thank you Zoe you literally have changed my life:) xxxx
I have anxiety disorder. I'm currently homeschooled and find it hard going out without a panic. Today I have to go to my school to pick up homeschool work. And do a tiny but of work with the teacher. I'm feeling very anxious. When in the car I normally panic from the build up and once I've panicked I don't go.
quisha please make more anxiety videos they really help
Quisha! Zoe quisha does have anxiety she says it her vids why don't you check it out?
Maisy Owen Yes i know zoe has anxiety.
Maisy Owen
This is an Anxiety Video >.
Sorry I was asking Zoe to check your vids out quisha sorry! Please can u check the comments I put on ur anxiety videos thanks ily quisha! And ily Zoe!
I have severe anxiety and ik it. My friends always say "oh I get anxiety when I do this." They don't get it. I just find it hard to explain. It's so much all at once and there isn't a lot of ways to really describe. I just hate it sm
Rylen Slagle and then when you try talk to your friends about it you say “I have really bad anxiety” and they just say “omg same” 😒
Thank you for this video, i have panic attacks all the time as I was in a accident with my Grandfather and Grandmother, my Grandfather died and i suffered for depression for over a year. You are my role-model and you have helped me so much throughout the years of your channel. Your videos have helped me escape from everyday life.
Thank you Zoë for everything.
I push people away because part of my depression causes overthinking which leads to assuming things so I push people away, then I lose them. Currently I have 0 friends, and stranger anxiety doesn't really help with making friends. So I'm in a bit of a pickle.
Caitlin Atkins you're fine, and people know why I push but for a lot of people its tough being pushed away by someone you care about.
I totally understand you, im in the exact situation now. And I think the worst part of it is that I don't feel any tenacity to fix things now :/
Real friends will understand. I have lost because they didn't understand what I was going through but to be honest, it is better not to have those people in your life if they are not going to support you through something that is incredibly difficult. You will make new friends, I promise and they will be the people that matter.
I know what you mean I suffer with anxiety and I have never told anyone but the symptoms are very similar to what I have experienced and I push people away I always think people are judging me and talking about me and I end up just pushing them away, I think this was because when I was younger one of my friends left me and I had no one and I was bullied and I think that was a cause of my anxiety but try not to push people away just remember everyone is here for you and they are trying to help x
Thanks for all of your comments, Zoe really does have amazing subscribers
I WENT AND GOT HELP TODAY, FEEL TONNES BETTER ALREADY! THANK YOU TO EVERYONE IN THE COMMENTS THAT REASSURED ME AND THANK YOU ZOE!
congrats! im so proud of you ! thats one of the biggest and hardest steps to decreasing anxiey(:
lol i hate getting help it makes me so annoyed because i don't think i need help omg
That is so great! Even though it can be really hard...sometimes you have to let your problems and feelings out or they will only become worse and you will be more scared about things all the time
That's so great!!
Thankyou so much Zoe... I just watched all ur videos on anxiety and panic attacks! I have suffered this for the past 2 years and hit the turning point last year luckily... Either way it does come back regularly and I always feel anxious doing things which no one else would even give a second thought but these videos have helped me so much and I'm now in a much more positive mood to say yes and just try to not waste my life feeling anxious about irrational things that I will regret later on. You've helped me so much and I'm so grateful!!!💙xxx
As someone who suffers from anxiety and crippling panic attacks along with depression thank you for making this video
sometimes I forget that there are other people with these issues it makes me feel a little less alone. 😊
That car alarm comparison is really so spot on though, it's exactly how I feel when having anxiety like my body's warning-alarm goes of for the littlest things. Great video, Zoe, always nice when people share their experience and it always make me feel better hearing about it :)
This video just proves how great you are. You not only provide your audience with videos on make up and fashion advice, you also help us. It's amazing to read the comments on this page and show that none of us are alone, I get panic attacks all the time, I hate it I never used to understand them or why they were happening until I looked online. I was so ill over Christmas last year with anxiety, I felt so trapped and had just this overwhelming sense of impending doom. I'm so glad you made this video, you've an absolute diamond Zoe you really are!
Thank you so much for this Zoe! This video was so insightful! As a kid, I was a very anxious child. In the last year, I have started to get panic attack as an adult. I have no idea what brings them on. The worse feeling in the middle of the attack is that "feeling of impending doom" or that you're going to die. I have anxiety when I drive and I don't want this to rule my life. I always find it helpful to talk to people about it. Especially when my heart starts racing for no reason. This video was great! Thank you!
I am sitting in my bed and realising I have anxiety and started crying and freaking out of nowhere and the first place I came to is Zoe because every time I watch her she makes me happy and stops me from overthinking everything so this is why Zoe is my role model so thank you for helping me xx
I can't even begin to explain how much this has helped me, literally Zoe thank you SO SO MUCH. You and I definitely think in extremely similar ways - I know I get very annoyed when I'm having a panic attack and people keep asking me things etc so I'm so glad you said that. Plus, I hate it when I have to say no to things as well. I want to hug you now. Thank. You. Xxxxxxxxx
Ikr she is such an inspiration :D
Elliott Walker i think you will find that knowing someone who is considered famous being able to cope with it does make you more determined to get through it, it shows you that they are just as normal as everyone else as that you can get through it. no one wants your negative comments so do one.
Same :)
Elliott Walker maybe you do not understand what its like and Zoe as really help me and a lot of other people so please take this negative thought else wear thank bye :-)
Elliott Walker maybe you do not understand what its like and Zoe as really help me and a lot of other people so please take this negative thought else wear thank bye :-)
Literally found myself nodding along to everything you said in this video, The fact that there are other people that have anxiety and panick attacks makes me feel a whole lot better and less stupid i guess!
This video helped so much, thank you so much for the advice Zoe x
Also, I would love if you do another anxiety Q&A like this again. It really does help so many of us. ❤️
Great video on anxiety Zoella hope to connect one day through the anxiety guy podcast as a guest. #TeamZoella
The Anxiety Guy true deau #TeamZoella
This was really interesting Zoe! I feel like I've learnt a lot and understand anxiety more now :)
you're everywhere
Cajcaj I'm the CZcams Comment King
Heyy i love your videos! :))
Does anybody with bad anxiety ever feel like, so so guilty about it?
Yes! I know exactly how you feel. Its very important to remember that it's not your fault and there's nothing wrong with you. It's also very common. Remember that it's just a chemical imbalance in your brain.
yeah :( and i feel ashamed and disappointed in myself. i feel like it has really lowered my self esteem
Always. I feel like it's a burden on my family and friends.
I used to but you learn to embrace it :) Love yourself:) *easier said than done haha*
Me. I always feel like I am being a massive pain when i get anxious around people or have panic attacks.. It is awful! xox
It’s really cool to have a role model like her that can easily speak about this. I️ suffer from panic attacks and it’s great to hear someone els who I️ have looked up to for years to have gone something I️ am right now. I’m so thankful for her anxiety videos please make more!!
Thank you so much for this video Zoella! I have a really bad anxiety disorder, but I've never had a panic attack. I am so glad that it's not just me and that other people know what I'm going through.
My top tips for dealing with anxiety:
1. Breathe. Breathing really is so important as slow, controlled breathing lets the body know that you are ok and it allows your BODY to calm down.
2. Focus on something else. Try and find all of the colours of the rainbow in the room you are in or name all of the names that you can think of that start with a certain letter. You could also create sensation in your body to focus on - such as pinching your leg etc.. Anxiety demands attention, it gets worse the more you feed it.
3. Speak to someone. This can be a parent/trusted person, but if anxiety is really disrupting your life my absolute top tip would be to go to a psychologist! This way you get legitimate advice on what you are going through, and it really helps when you know what's happening to you! It stops you from catastrophizing and being angry at yourself - which doesn't help.
4. Exposure. It's so so hard, but if you have a fear or phobia, or a certain situation/place that makes you nervous - in little steps slowly take away your safety blanket (things that you do to make sure you feel 'safe') and experience your fear. For me, I have a phobia of vomiting in public, so I would make myself go somewhere crowded and sit in the middle (instead of sitting at the back, my own safety blanket) and show myself that IT IS OK!
5. Know that you are absolutely fine the way you are :)) There is nothing right/wrong about anxiety and it is absolutely 100% manageable! It doesn't matter how much you think you can't be "fixed", I promise you will be ok! Go live the life you want to and honestly if you take anything from this go see a psychologist, they changed my life! GOOD LUCK and go be you! xxx
you explained it so well, I kept saying 'that's me' throughout the video
me to (:
I watched this video when it came out and I look back all the time❤️I suffer with social anxiety, severe stress, panic attacks and this really helps😊
I want to say thankyou for being my inspiration. I have recently started at a new school and it has triggered my panic attacks and made my anxiety a lot worse. I had to take a day off school because of this, and Inam now seeing a therapist. You have made me feel a lot better, and let me kniw that Im not alone, and that it will all be ok. And the o anyone else reading this, I wish you all the best, and my thoughts go out to you. I have finally been able to tell my friends about this, something i didnt really want to do. I love you more then the world!
To move away from the situation that´s causing the panic attack is the worst thing you can do. I´ve been in therapy so I know this. If you move away from the situation you´re only going to learn your body and mind that you can´t handle the situation and the only way to get the panic to go away is to get the hell out of there. Instead you should stay in the situation, let the panic attack have it´s course and just stay with the feeling even tough it´s really hard. You´re body can only stay in a panic state for so long, evencually you´re bodys alarmsystem will calm down. Next time when you are in the same situation it´s a lot more believable that you will be able to stay there, and your anxiety will not be as high.
I agree with this, although I've never been to therapy. I once had a panic attack in a movie theatre with all of my friends at the end of the movie and they all wanted to stay and wait to see if there was anything after the credits. So I took my sweater and covered my face with it so no one could really see that I was crying, and did breathing exercises to control my hyperventilation. The only people who noticed (that I know of) was my friend sitting next to me and a random lady who handed me a tissue. But because I did sit there and let the attack run its course instead of going outside, I'm totally fine to go and sit in a theatre and watch another movie because I don't associate my anxiety with the movie theatre just because I once had an attack there.
well it might be different for everyone :)
Jodi Allan No probably not, there have been many studies showing that cognitive behaviroal therapy is the most effective by far when it comes to treating anxiety. And CBT is all about staying in situations and face your fears to get better.
For some people, since anxiety/panic disorder is different for everyone, panic attacks last longer or are worse when they are in an uncomfortable situation. It might work for some people to do that, but from personal experience of me and people I know, its best to try and get out to calm down before returning to a situation. :)
yeah ofcourse it will ease the panic when you get out of the situation, so you will feel like you did the right thing.. but yoy really did´nt. In the long term it´s much better to stay there. Just look at the reserach that is out there if you dont believe me
Today i was in class, and i had to go up to the front on my own in front of everyone, i really didnt want to cause i felt anxious, and i said to my friend, im not going, and a girl at on the other side of the class room somehow heard and just said "why dont you just go up there" and i just said "i dont want to" and she like shouted "just go up there its not hard" its horrible that people dont understand, i just wanted to cry cry cry cry. I wish more people were aware and not so nasty
I know that feeling so well
same here happened to me on geography when i was saying the lesson.I got panic attack and someone thought i acted it out,but my friends believed me i love them.I just wanted to cry but i smiled. No one understans.
I hate it when you know your going to cry and try to help it then start breathing heavily and then burst I tot tears, when none of your friends/ family are around because my friends know about my anxiety but know one else understands so if your in the middle of town people think your crazy 😔
Queen B that sounds awful! Why cant teachers understand!
That same type of thing happened to me a few months ago I had to read a speech in front a huge crowd and I just started freaking out I was hyperventilating and I was crying and I almost pasted out then when it finally got over my head...a eighth grader came up and started making fun of me saying mean things to me and that was the worst day of my year so far...
hi zoe, iv struggled with anxiety, paranoia and depression all my life. Diagnosed with Borderline Personality Disorder and ADHD and iv been through many mental breakdowns! I love you so much and i cant believe we share something in common :) your videos always help me and encourage me so thank you. My struggles have held me back from work for along time but finally iv been inspired by you and many other stories and im now working in mental health to help others! Love you Zoe thank you xxx
I watched this video 5 years ago in the perspective of a person who didn’t understand but wanted to. Who barely had an idea of what a panic attack was. And now I’m here 5 years later, looking for help after I experienced my first panic attack a few days ago, and had another one the day after.
My anxiety is that bad i have no friends or anything...music,youtube and make up is all i have my boyfriend of 6 years even left me because of it. Its really hard to make new friends im 23 and times passing by. I have great family but i lock myself away in my room :-/ sad but true.
Those people clearly aren't worth your precious time if they aren't willing to accept you the way you are.
I'm in the same boat, you aren't alone x
She's right there is 7 billion people in this world you'll find someone if you put in the effort
I feel you :( It's like you want to put yourself out there but at the same time, it's scary and you just can't do it.
:O you just described my life except for the boyfriend part :S

Zoe, this is why you are my inspiration. You think about everyone and you seem like such a nice person! I'm sure your advice is going to help SOO many people! I'm so lucky I don't suffer with any of this but I know people who do and if anyone needs a chat, I'm always here! Xx
I started having panic attacks at 13 and it has really changed my life, I really think that my advice for others is to talk about it... it will make you feel so much better
This is so refreshing to watch. I am a second-year university student in the States who has been watching you for years. I've recently come to terms with the fact that I have anxiety and have been struggling with it and I love your vulnerability in a video like this as you are a mega-successful woman. I am an engineering student who many would consider very "successful" in my own way and people like you make me feel that it is ok embracing being imperfect and dealing with something like anxiety. My best advice is daily meditation and yoga: lifesavers for me!
I am young and am constantly stressing out and being very anxious about homework, projects, school, etc., and it causes my brain to think that the stress and anxiety is a virus so it makes me sick or something like that. Every week I am finding myself to be sick(stomach, cold, high fever, headaches, flu) and it causes me to get behind in schoolwork causing me to be more stressed out about my homework not getting done or teachers yelling at me because I didn't understand something. It freaks me out so bad for something so little. Now, this does sound a bit stupid and relentless, but I need someone to help me out. I am an honors student so the expectations from teachers is very high. Again, I am young, only in grade 7, so please no hate. I need some thoughtful words and just help. Please.
I'm kinda going through the same thing but I suffer from panic attacks aswell. I'm in year 7 and in the top set so teachers often expect more from me. I don't really have any advice because I'm lost myself and seeking advice but all I can say is that your not alone x
Alex Webber
Thanks so much, I commented for exactly that reason 😘
Abbey Elise Marie Alex Webber Im in year 7 too! Suffering the same thing. But I tend to keep it a secret so not many people know but dw you are both not
alone x
I have exactly the same thing! I get anxious when it comes to tests and presentations in class, this makes my brain panic even more and then makes me ill. So I am missing a lot of school... BTW I am 13/14 nearly doing my practice exams for GCSE which is bad and makes me worry even more... Your not alone with this problem 😆 so don't get worried what people think of you cause loads of people suffer from this to xx 💕

Thank you so much, it really helps to know, I mean, it still happens, but it is nice to know that I am not alone. Ya know? haha
Thank you for doing this video. I remember watching your former anxiety video and it helped me out a lot. My anxiety has a become a daily issue for a few months and it's hard getting through it. The tips you gave are greatly appreciated. ♥
Thank you so much for making your anxiety and panic videos. We have the same anxiety triggers like flying and being in crowded places. Your videos make me feel less crazy and not so alone in my anxiety.
Whenever I get anxiety and panic attacks it's always down to over thinking things and wanting to change things that I can't. I get really stressed and flustered quite easily and whenever I do get panic attacks I cry a lot and I find it hard to breathe. I don't normally watch zoe, but this video helped quite a lot.
