      Wdym we need to do that more often? We've already got tons in the English language! Shepherd: sheep + herd, holiday: holy + day, none: not + one, and so much more! /j
      Btw if some of this feels sorta familiar it's cuz i actually got the idea from a yt short lol :P.
      And oh yeah. someone pointed yt shorts ain't a great source of knowledge and i totally agree, so just take it with a pinch of salt.
      And not flaunt it in a way that could get you k.o'd with a reply pointing out ur accedental bulshittary (aka don't word it in a way as if your presenting it as the correct truth if you don't 100% know that is the truth cuz u got it from a not so trusted source)
      I'm just sayin this just to clear up some things, even tho tbh i don't really care about this shit. Since it's not really important (to me anyways)

      like, 'none' is from the old english words 'ne' and 'an,' which do _translate_ and are _related_ to 'not' and 'one' respectively, but it didnt come from mashing together the modern words 'not' and 'one' like youre implying. that isnt how etymology works. similar thing goes for holiday and shepherd

    I am OBSESSED with your "Guydeals" woman!!
    I feel we as a society have been starved of women like this in media, which is exactly why I draw them so much, *especially* in my web comic. The mentor of the comic is a middle-aged, buff, motherly woman, and the main character is a fem who starts off fit and grows more toned as the story progresses. There's also a masculine enby that dresses in a feminine way, and they're dating a muscular goddess of a woman whom herself is probably the most feminine and girly person in the entire story.
    Point being, "hot" comes in many different forms, and I want to see more variations aside from "Buff, manly guy" and "Small, cute girl". I especially want more old badasses. GIVE ME WARRIOR GRANDMAS PLEASE!!
    EDIT: Wow, this is getting more traction than I thought it would. For those curious, the comic is called Crossing Worlds on webtoon. The link is in my channel bio! :D

    • @HJ-oo8ph
      @HJ-oo8ph Před 4 měsíci +220

      Yep, that’s another interesting phenomenon with how we perceive masc/fem, and it’s got some historical roots.
      Having a darker shade of skin was considered “masculine” because, in white men, it was achieved by working in the sun a lot, usually by manual labor, something generally perceived as masculine. Being pale was considered feminine because it was achieved by white women by staying out of the sun (like by staying in the house or confining your work to shade) through housework or careful protection, like with parasols. It all kind of ties into the masc = manual labor and fem = housework narrative. Unfortunately, that belief was also used to discriminate against POC women, as people would accuse them of being “too masculine” simply for having darker skin.
      The origin of our perceptions of masculinity and femininity are very saddening but also fascinating to learn about.

      I agree that we need more representation of masculine women and wlw relationships, but both of those combined as you've described doesn't really set us any forward. The stereotype of a lesbian already is a masculine/tomboy girl. Making them date each other would just make that stereotype even deeper, as even now the audience already excepts more masculine women to already be portrayed as non-heterosexual since the start, or to end up being revealed as such later on. And even if they do end up dating a guy, they're still called "queer-coded" - which is really regressive of fandoms to judge someone's sexuality just based on their appearance.
      Same happens with feminine/androgynous men always ending up non-heterosexual, except I've been finding it usually happens in a more ambiguous way; such as attraction to another male character being implied but never showed on-screen or progressed into anything more than a crush/"best friends who mean the world to each other", or he simply ends up never getting together with anyone. Male homosexuality still seems to be a lot more culturally taboo than female homosexuality after all, just like it's been for all of history; with even examples of homophobes finding lesbians hot but gay men are looked down upon and considered less masculine.
      So I ended up kinda going off-topic, but my point still stands. Yes, we absolutely need to keep working on breaking gender stereotypes in general - but if that character just ends up stereotypically queer in the end as the audience would expect, we've changed exactly nothing.

    • @aWERFRGT6545BGFG
      @aWERFRGT6545BGFG Před 3 měsíci +18

      @@tomokokurokiirl I mean the standards for heterosexual relationships have usually been masculine man and feminine woman or masculine man and androgynous woman. I think crossing taht line and letting masculine women date feminine men is a good change, i wouldnt say it changes nothing. When I was a kid I didnt differentiate gender so I always believed for ages that women and men were exactly equal in the relationship and that feminine men and masculine women were a normal couple to exist. Femininity is hated, thats why women can be masc and still be seen as cool (until she doesnt shave or wear mkaeup then she is looked down upon) but men cant be fem without people being cruel about it. Having a Masculine woman (aka a tomboy/ mascgirl) dating a feminine man (aka a femboy/tomgirl) should be more normalized.
      I've been attracted to feminine men for ages and back when I was identifying as a woman, that was frowned upon and people got mad at me for "tkaing the gay men away" even though I wasnt. but after I transitioned to a guy now Its seen as a normal thing in the queer community.

    I didn't know there was a name for the tilt of the eyes and now I have a name for my droopy eye ocs bc I am obsessed with a negative canthal tilt I've always found it beautiful and haven't stopped drawing it for years ever since I escaped the early beginner art stage of drawing what everyone else was drawing and only drawing positive canthal tilts
    basically I love learning and as an artist it's so important and fun to me to purposefully subvert norms! My favorite thing to do is give my women characters male names (ex my oc Benjamin Caplan) and my men characters female names (ex Lottie Badgerow) and it is just so freeing to try even just one or two features on a new oc that isn't "conventionally" attractive and realize how beautiful every single human feature is like that's why I love art and character design because people are SO gorgeous and unique and no matter what we'll never run out of that uniqueness there is always a new person waiting to be born in real life and new character waiting to be drawn by an artist humans are infinitely individual and it's so fucking cool and stunning

    I'm glad you did this! I have more "masculine attractiveness" than I do feminine traits. I'm tall, almost 6", broad shoulders, large muscles, chiseled jaw, tall nose, defined brow-bone, and large hands. These attributes have always made me feel less worthy and less beautiful than any other girl. I've learned that beauty standards suck and I'm okay with how I look now.

    traits I find genuinely stunning:
    -unique noses (dorsal bumps, big noses, etc)
    -hip dips
    -moles or freckles (especially LOTS of them)
    -braces (they bring out smiles)
    -broad shoulders on women and narrow on men
    -soft jaws
    -body hair on women (especially when it’s dark)
    -ginger or white lashes that are hard to see or short ones
    -scars
    -teeth gaps and buck teeth
    -frizzy hair
    -acne
    there’s so much more. if you hate a trait about yourself please remember there’s 100% someone out there who’s attracted to it or wishes they had it too. don’t beat yourself up about things you can’t control ❤

    When she startedd talking about posture, the first thing I thought of was throwns (cus I read a lot of fantasy novels with people sitting in throwns on the cover, and I like drawing them), like if theres a queen or whatever, even when she looks super haughty/proud, with her chin high, shoulders back, etcetera, the legs are usually crossed, aka taking up less space than even just having them resting normally, and the guys are almost always manspreading, and another thing is they usually look more relaxed than the ladies.

    As a femboy, this whole video made me so happy. Gender norms are the weirdest things, and it makes me so glad that they’re getting addressed. I hope we can get to the point where everyone can just be how they want without judgement. For me, thigh highs are hella cute and I don’t just want to have to wear them underneath pants so I don’t get weird looks…

    • @CorvidayWolfy
      @CorvidayWolfy Před 3 měsíci +30

      SLAY!! I (a quite feminine girl) really like feminine men, or just cute/pretty guys in general. If a man wants to wear more stereotypically feminine clothes, that’s just as valid as a man wanting to appear more masculine. Same goes for women of course.
      If someone’s not into masculine girls or feminine guys that’s fine, everyone has their own tastes and preferences! As long as someone isn’t walking down the street naked, everyone should just mind their business.

      @@terdragontra8900 Honestly, it's hard because there are very few examples of feminine male characters. I guess looking at men in other cultures could be helpful, especially if male beauty standards elsewhere are closer to our female beauty standards. K-pop is a potential place for inspiration due to the hairlessness and very well-kept skin. However, they are usually incredibly toned and wear traditionally masculine clothing. I think Jojo's Bizarre Adventure is good for inspiration if you mostly look at part 4 and later. It's just about the only think I've seen that lets the male characters dress in very "feminine" clothing that still looks like it was designed for a male body. Honestly, I have the same struggle too sometimes, and I wish people were more creative in terms of creating "feminine" clothing that looks like it was designed for a male body in a way that doesn't feel like a joke or anything.

    • @terdragontra8900
      @terdragontra8900 Před 3 měsíci +4

      @@crashb800 This is maybe a bizarre thing to say, but I don’t really have interest in dressing or acting feminine, I want to act freely without any regard to what we’ve associated with either sex, and I don’t want to be expected to act like a guy in a relationship. But maybe I’m just super lazy. Are there men who dress feminine not because they innately want to but as, like… advertisement?

    • @crashb800
      @crashb800 Před 3 měsíci +1

      @@terdragontra8900 No, I don't think there are guys trying to be femboys based on advertisement. Honestly, I just read your response on a very surface level, and I think I get what you are saying now. Honestly, I struggle a lot with the expectation of leading in a relationship (I assume that's what you mean by not wanting to act like the guy in a relationship), and unfortunately, I don't know really how to deal with that. If I did, I would personally be a lot happier, but it honestly sucks feeling like your relationship options are either lead or no relationship. I don't honestly know how that will change until girls are really socially allowed to be the ones approaching.
