Lyrics:
My, my, at Waterloo Napoleon did surrender
oh yeah, and I have met my destiny
in quite a similar way
the history book on the shelf
is always repeating itself
Waterloo - I was defeated, you won the war
Waterloo - promise to love you for ever more
Waterloo - couldn’t escape if I wanted to
Waterloo - knowing my fate is to be with you
Wa, wa, wa, wa, Waterloo - finally facing my Waterloo
My, my, I tried to hold you back but you were stronger
oh yeah, and now it seems my only chance
is giving up the fight
and how could I ever refuse
I feel like I win when I lose
Waterloo - I was defeated, you won the war
Waterloo - promise to love you for ever more
Waterloo - couldn’t escape if I wanted to
Waterloo - knowing my fate is to be with you
Wa, wa, wa, wa, Waterloo - finally facing my Waterloo
So how could I ever refuse
I feel like I win when I lose -
Waterloo - couldn’t escape if I wanted to
Waterloo - knowing my fate is to be with you
Wa, wa, wa, wa, Waterloo - finally facing my Waterloo

You know, in high school if you admitted to anyone that you liked Abba you were outcast and seen as weird, but the older I get and the more songs I hear from Abba the more I'm like, "Damn, they are so unbelievably good."
Did you know today is the 50th anniversary of [Waterloo]? It was originally released on March 4th, 1974.
Well if someone had said to me I was weird because a liked ABBA I would have sent him or her straight to hell! Regards.
Yes. Its the more or less simple or wholesome lyrics, snappy beat and above all the harmony.

That wouldve never worked, the movie is about war, not a love story or sitcom
Funny to name a battle and railway station after an Abba song. Shows how popular they are.

As many as possible to remind us that these and other rock? musicians of that era could write music, play instruments & sing something that doesn't sound like a funeral dirge, that's how many.

@Degree7 yep a war to remove monarchy and give everyone rights to become a person and not stay an expenditure for the country, what an evil man. In reality napoleon lost and history is written by the victors so the monarchies of the time would demonise him, yet his legacy lives on in the form of constitutions and civil rights that we would not have imagined back then.

I'm 32 and last week my 13 yo niece sent me a music video of "this really cool old song [she] discovered."
It was Waterloo.
Abba will be around for a while.
1975: THIS IS AMAZING!
Extremely underrated comment
5040: THIS IS AMAZING !
If humanity lasts that long
1974. They won the Eurovision contest with this song.
1815: THIS IS NOT AMAZING! - Napoleon
What a incredible marathon im having with their comeback ABBA FOR EVER
Same!!
Me too…..time to pull out my vinyl LP’s…..having an ABBA fest.
YAS Whos with this guy?ME

I've decided to binge listen to every one of their songs! It's the best decision I ever made!
50 years of Waterloo!
That man went hard on that piano
Hard to believe that this song is fifty years old. Still amazing.
49 years old

Hard to believe that most people don't know that even in 2023 Abba are the 3rd biggest selling band in the world, Queen at 2 and the Beatles at 1. Even the rolling Stones have not outsold them and that is despite rereleasing albums during the time Abba had split up for like 20 years or something.
Its very catchy
There`s only two types of people in this world - those who love ABBA, and those who don`t admit they love ABBA! : )
There's much to what you state! I'm in the first camp, happier and better- more open- for it!
Same!!!!!!!!! ABBA IS AWESOME IVE LOVED THEM SINCE I WAS 3 I'm now 9
May you have a long and happy life as an ABBA fan!
Yeah my dad was like the second type there. He liked "hard rock" (because Black Sabbath is serious fucking business) so he could never admit he loved abba
I"m the type that has a hard admitting they have some great songs (like this one).
I remember ABBA winning the Eurovision Song Contest with this song. It's often panned for some reason. I think it's still a classic.
When I was a kid in the 70s our family would go out to restaurants that had those little mini jukeboxes on the tables, and I would commandeer the jukebox and play every ABBA song on it, one after the other, and if there was time, because the service was slow, I would repeat as many songs as I could. It really brought the family together - to plot my demise.
My history teacher played this the day we learned about the defeat of Napoleon lol it was great
Lucas Butterfield that must be one awesome teacher. I’m still an ABBA fan in 2018. ✌️✌️❤️😍
Black Panther me too
He deserves a six figure salary.
same 😂
Lucky, I’d give $50 for the teachers to play this in school and we were aloud to sing along. Because it’s my favourite song!!!!!!!!!!!❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️😀😀😀😀😀🎵🎵🎵🎶🎶🎶🎶🎶🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊🔊 like if you love abba
Napoleon may have fallen at Waterloo, but this song posthumously conquered Europe for him. All hail the corpse emperor Napoleon
*nods with approval*
Jokes aside, He may have lost the battle, but still his name lives on... That is everything. To have your name in the history books for centuries and millennia. It is indeed remarkable that a person who lost is more famous than the victors.
He was fine after Waterloo. Do they even teach history anymore?
@@HuplesCat i didn’t say he died at Waterloo , i said he fell, as in the metaphorical sense. I think he died in exile of consumption and lead poisoning
@@TheEnderBand sorry. Text is a terrible communications method. Thanks for correcting me politely. Have a great week
The first time I heard abba, I was 13 years old. I was sick and had to stay home form school. I lay in bed flipping through the channels, I started watching this movie Muriel’s Wedding. I fell in love with the movie and the soundtrack.❤ Best movie ever !!
The only one who does not love this one is Napoleon Bonaparte!
WATERLOO!
I still love it in 2018!!!
spot on brother Le guarde en rec..something
😂😂😂😂😂 and the Duke of Wellington .loves it 😂😂😂😂
Yesterday Napoleon. Tomorrow (sooner the better) Trump.
I’m here because of Mamma Mia 2 such a good song I had to come back and listen
Rick Weaver I don't want to start a debate but... Is there still people in 2018 seeing Napoléon as a horrible dictator bringing only horror and destruction and trying to bring down the "holy kingdoms" of Europe? Gosh..
My history teacher always plays this song and dance to it in class. She's awesome so is this song❤
SAARA lol 😀
boredoutofmymind hahaha sure!
You have a great teacher!

Vita Hindin ya from a tik tok I saw about songs that make people happy
I came here from a Simpsons episode 😂 i used to listen to Abba when i was little and forgot about this song
Vita Hindin guilty
Correct.
Abba one of the best bands ever with so many great songs
ABBA - is this true, your song is 50 years old? I am 62, but let me tell you , I remember with 12 years when ABBA was always at our Radio Stations. Somehow I adopted this song, think it was good decision!
I've waited 25 years for this moment.
Simpson's?
+Mohamed Umar burns in tank
+Dejan Tomic yeah I came here after that episode...the good old days of Simpson's.
I'm sorry sir I must have taped over that
u waited that long for this to come out? geez your old
ABBA
My my
At Waterloo Napoleon did surrender
Oh yeah
And I have met my destiny in quite a similar way
The history book on the shelf
Is always repeating itself
Waterloo I was defeated, you won the war
Waterloo promise to love you for ever more
Waterloo couldn't escape if I wanted to
Waterloo knowing my fate is to be with you
Waterloo finally facing my Waterloo
My my
I tried to hold you back, but you were stronger
Oh yeah
And now it seems my only chance is giving up the fight
And how could I ever refuse
I feel like I win when I lose
Waterloo I was defeated, you won the war
Waterloo promise to love you for ever more
Waterloo couldn't escape if I wanted to
Waterloo knowing my fate is to be with you
Oh, oh Waterloo finally facing my Waterloo
So how could I ever refuse
I feel like I win when I lose
Waterloo couldn't escape if I wanted to
Waterloo knowing my fate is to be with you
Waterloo finally facing my Waterloo
Waterloo knowing my fate is to be with you
Oh, oh Waterloo finally facing my Waterloo
Waterloo knowing my fate is to be with you
Thanks
thank you for that
🙌👍👍
Napoleon didn't surrender in Waterloo or on June 18th, he tried to go to the USA but thought he couldn't reach it so he surrender to captain maintland
well, she think callum version is kind of gay @@jessicacolindres8277
Always loved these ABBA hits...which are mostly all of them!!!
Happy 50th Anniversary Waterloo! It's unimaginable how after 50 years this song is still great! ❤
42 years since ABBA won the 1974 Eurovision Song Contest with Waterloo.
IT was a Smash Hit here in the USA too !
2006? I kind of agree, nothing beats Lejla
Lejla > Never let you go > Hard Rock Hallelujah
In other words
Bosnia > Russia > Finland (to me)
That makes sense. By the way, you should try Finland 2014 and 2010, they're both pretty neat. (Also 2012, but that's in Swedish)
"I'm sorry, sir. I've must've taped over that."
Mr. Smithers.
Mr. Burns & Mr. Smithers. brought me here too...
Mona Simpson escaping? while this song is played? and then we wouldn't see her until My Mother The Carjacker and then again until Mona Leaves-a when she dies.
Simpson's brought me here!
