    I enjoyed your video and I know that naples isn’t for everyone but we spent 3 nights in Napoli and we fell in love with this historic city. Yes, you have to watch out for pick pockets and not make yourself a target (but that is common sense when traveling anywhere). The food was very reasonably priced and delicious! We loved walking through spaccanapoli and the Spanish quarter - even at night - and we felt safe. We toured the underground city and the Napoli museum as well. We had a phenomenal time there. Yes it’s noisy and hectic with the scooters driving up and down the alleyways but this craziness was a big part of the town’s charm. I definitely recommend taking a street food walking tour! Forza Napoli sempre!!!

    Stumbled upon your video and it's perfect for my upcoming trip! Thank you! I and my mum are traveling from Thailand to Naples in early June for business and I'm planning 3-4 days trip after the work is done. My plan is similar to yours but may be less walking for my poor mum's knees lol. I plan to base in Sorrento and take day-trip to Amalfi coast towns by ferry. Hope we wont get bad sea sick though. I will be considering going to Pompeii from Sorrento as well because I also don't want to stay too many night in Naples. While in Naples I plan to visit some castles, churches, and archeology museum + pizzas of course! 😄😄😄

    • @jacklawsontravel
      @jacklawsontravel  Před rokem +1

      Oh sounds like an amazing trip! Pompeii is a must see. Remember when you land in Naples there's a bus that can take you to the main train station where you can catch a train to Sorrento. Always be careful in Naples it's not as wealthy as other parts of Italy so it's good to be on your guard. Make sure you visit the Pizzeria I mentioned in the video. It's amazing!

    Little budget tip, Minori is on Amalfi coast well connected, and you can find cheaper hotels there than in Sorrento, also i booked two night there and other nights in Agerola( which was around 200$ per person for 6 days!) very cheap and also the bus is well connected. I would also suggested Salerno, town on opposite side of Amalfi, its well connected and cheaper, has supermarkets, bars, restaurants, little less touristy than Sorrento

Question: I pulled up the bus schedule online and saw that the last departure from Positano to Sorrento leaves around 9 pm which is still pretty early in the evening. Do you know if most businesses close around that time? Or better yet, do you know if the ferry/water taxi operates longer hours for those who wish to stay in Positano later at night? THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!

    Hi Jack. First of all, thanks so much for this video. VERY informative and useful. Wife and I, and our 4 year old son are planning to visit Amalfi Coast on the 1st week of October. We are heavily considering your tip to make Sorrento as our 'base' to visit the sites. We are not a 'hiking' couple so places like the Path of the Gods would be out. It really more of a relaxing trip. No plans really to swim as it maybe too cold by then but we may just try to take a dip while in Sorrento. Any advise on the place to stay in Sorrento? Is a day tour to Positano and Amalfi (1 day) by bus advisable as we may not really explore the inner parts of those places due to the walking.

    • @jacklawsontravel

      Ok great! Sorrento is a great place to stay, I stayed at the Hotel Rivoli Sorrento, which was good for the price, and in a great location! If you're going to the Amalfi Coast you must see Positano and Amalfi, they're stunning places. The towns aren't that big either so don't worry about a lot of walking, there are a lot of steps though.

    Thankyou for this great video. One thing that I think needs mentioning is that, when a train ticket has been bought, it needs to be 'validated' in a machine on the train station, otherwise the traveller without a validated ticket could be fined €200 if caught by the conductor checking tickets on the train. We were warned about this by our Italian car mechanic before we went to Sicily this year, and it was a very valuable piece of info that our travel agent never mentioned. I don't understand why the ticket has to be validated, as it has the travel info on it already, as in, date, destination etc, but Apparantly the validation is to stop traveller's pulling a fast one and using their tickets on other days without paying. I presume that there must be tickets that don't have dates etc already printed on for this rule to be in place, otherwise it doesn't make sense. Anyway, VALIDATE YOUR TICKETS FOLKS, to avoid being fined!

    Hi Jack, great video thanks. Thinking of going to Rome next February then calling into the Amalfi for 4 to 5 days. My question to you is because it is so early in the season are we going to see the best of the Amalfi or will we be disappointed. I know it would be great to see the sights and getting around and cheaper but a bit concerned we will not see it at it's best. What do you think. ?

    • @jacklawsontravel
      @jacklawsontravel  Před 11 měsíci

      Thanks for the kind words. It all depends on what you want to see. Although it will be a cheap time to visit the maximum temperature would be around 14c on average and you may see a lot of rain. Personally the best time of year to visit this region is around September. You're out of peak season but the weather is still great and the sea is at its warmest if you want to swim.

    Another way to combat sea sickness is to stand on the boat and stare at any land you can see to stabilize your eyes and brain. The worst thing you can do is lay down. You need to take the medicine at least 45 min before getting on the boat or it won’t work. The combinado of the medicine and not laying down can help!

    Awesome video. I am planning to stay in Amalfi Coast for 4 nights. I will be coming from and back to Rome. Wouldn't Salerno be a better base from cost and connectivity perspective? I will anyway not have much time except dinnertimes to explore the base town.

    Whats ur view on that

    • @jacklawsontravel
      @jacklawsontravel  Před 2 lety +1

      All comes down to what time of year you're travelling, as you can only get ferries from Naples to Amalfi at peak times of the year but you should be able to get to Sorrento from Naples most times of the year. Personally I like to avoid the ferries if possible due to rough seas can be pretty common, but it's all down to personally choice.

    Hello Jack
    Thank you so much for this video. This is the best video about the Amalfi Coast I have came across until now. Kudos to your work. I am visiting Italy this Mid September with my wife and two kids for 10 days trip. Can you provide your feedback about 10 days will be sufficient to cover all this destinations? Thanks in advance!
    Day-1 Landing in Rome.
    Day-2 to 4: Rome
    Day-5 and 6: Naple local food (Famous pizza) and other attractions
    Day-7: Sorrento
    Day-8,9: Positano, Capri and Amalfi Cost
    Day-10 Return to Rome

      Thank you! For me I wouldn't spend more than half a day in naples. For me it is not a very nice city, it's run down and doesn't have much to offer. I would go to it just get a pizza and then that's it. I would instead say spend some time in Pompeii, it's an incredible place or if that's not your cup of yea just spend more time in the Amalfi coast. you'd need a day at least just for Capri and you can easily spend a day in Positano. Other than that it looks great!

    • @jacklawsontravel
      @jacklawsontravel  Před 2 lety +3

      Yes Salerno is a great place to stay, with a lot of history especially from WW2. The reason why i didn't stay here was that it was more difficult to get to from Naples Airport. So the money saved on hotels can sometimes be counterbalanced by the cost to get there if that makes sense?

    • @jacklawsontravel
      @jacklawsontravel  Před 2 lety +6

      Well the Amalfi Coast is an expensive area to visit and for those who want to stay in the Amalfi Coast Sorrento is the most cost effective. Certainly when you compare it to Positano, Capri and Amalfi etc. While Naples in cheaper than Sorrento if you want to stay near the Amalfi Coast it's just too far away. It's 50 minutes on the train just to Sorrento which is just too far if you want a holiday in the Amalfi Coast. Even though it's one of the most expensive areas to go, I still got a hotel for there for 4 days for £138 per person which I think is a great price for the area. So you can do within a budget which is what my video is all about :)

      renting a scooter is the best solution to visit the Amalfi coast, there are free parking spaces but few of them, and especially in the summer months it is practically impossible to find, in May or September you shouldn't have any problems, the other option I recommend is to use public transport, such as buses or ferries, tickets are cheap and you don't have to worry about having to drive or find parking, the only downside of public transport is that it can always be crowded, and especially in the summer it can happen to be left behind and having to wait for the next ride
