  • Ride over the Hudson River on the longest pedestrian bridge in the world -- coming in at a little over 1.25 miles -- in Poughkeepsie, NY. The Walkway Over the Hudson stands 212 feet above the Hudson River and boasts scenic views north to the Catskills and south to the Hudson Highlands.
    At the other side of the bridge is the paved Hudson Valley Rail Trail stretching 7.1 miles. This trail stretches through hardwood forests, over Black Creek, and under two spectacular stone bridges. It's short -- but a beautiful trail you won't want to miss. This ride took place on May 14, 2022.
    This trail is part of the 750 mile Empire State Trail system; and a Rails to Trails Conservancy Rail Trail Hall of Fame Inductee: www.railstotra...

    This is my favorite thing about NY state. The the beauty of our landscape and sheer amount of it. And there are so many great bike trails all over. And now I just have to ride this one.

      No doubt NYS has a lot going for it. I hope you get the chance to get on this trail. The bridge is breathtaking! Thanks for watching.

    It is great to see so many people enjoying what might have been torn down and lost forever. The Lehigh & Hudson River railroad that ran from Easton, PA to Maybrook, NY, where it connected to the New Haven railroad that owned the Poughkeepsie Bridge, ceased to be much use once so many railroads merged in the Northeast that all the freight trains over the Hudson could go via former New York Central track near Schenectady, NY, or the car floats between Brooklyn, NY and Jersey City, NJ, rather than get routed through Maybrook, NY.

    I am not a big commentator on CZcams channels but wanted you to know how much my wife and I enjoy your channel. We have had our ebikes for almost 3 years. We very much prefer riding on rail trails and try to ride at least once a week on a trail. Your video's have given us many great trails to ride and I always look forward to your next video. We did this ride last year also and it has to be one of the best rides ever. Thank you both for taking the time to document and publish your rides. On to the next one...... ride safe

      Hi David, Thank you so much for your kind comments. We appreciate it. We really like finding new trails to ride and making the videos gives us a good excuse to not ride the same trails over and over. This was one of our favorites. "See" you on the next ride.

    This is now part of the Empire State Trail, about 750 miles. You can start about 7 miles west of the bridge, in New Paltz, go over the bridge, 1.5 miles, and do another 7 miles or so to where the trail used to end, an old train station that is now a shop, which is most of what our friends here have done on the east side of Hudson . That was what I did it when I did it some years ago. From New Paltz to the bridge is mostly down, so it is going to be mostly up on your way back from the bridge to New Paltz.

    Excellent video! The bridge is awesome and the views look a lot better during the day. Last year I crossed the bridge early morning. While it was still a memorable ride, daylight puts a whole new perspective to the ride. I'm not a big fan (or small fan) of bridge crossings either. However this bridge is wide enough to appeal to anyone. Thanks again and all the best, Steve

      Hi Steve, Aren't you off riding in some exotic land right now? If you are, thanks for taking a minute to check on what we are doing. We've been looking forward to this ride for a while -- first big trip of the year. We are off to ride the entire GAP soon -- but no camping for us, we aren't quite that adventurous.

    That was probably was one of the most scenic rides I've seen. Thanks for the video, and how do you choose your music as it is always ?comforting?, is that the word I'm looking for? Also, is there a toll to cross the bridge? I mean, it IS New York, hahahaha.

    • @Adventuresonebikes
      @Adventuresonebikes  Před 2 lety

      No toll, but you have to donate a kidney (just joking). This is a great view, but then I'm pretty sure you are going to be excited about your upcoming trip to the Lehigh Gorge Trail -- and we can't wait to join you on the trails you ride after that. Hope we can make that happen.

    Thanks for the video. I was hoping to see the end of the trail. My wife and I are searching for bike trails in upstate NY and the bridge and the trail just may be the first one we may venture out this upcoming season once the weather gets warmer. A total of roughly about 10miles each is very nice. Along the way, we can take some breaks here and there while enjoying the scenic view. One question though. Where do you park your vehicle coming from the NYC area to get on the bridge and continue on the trail?

    • @Adventuresonebikes
      @Adventuresonebikes  Před 6 měsíci +1

      The end of the trail was about 1 mile beyond where we went and the trail went along the side of the road before it just dead ended - which is why we decided not to continue. I think you can take a few roads to jump on the Walkill Rail Trail, but we didn’t try to do that. We started on the East side of the bridge and there was a parking lot there that was also the parking for the start of the Dutchess Rail trail. I know there is parking on the west side of the bridge as well. We don’t live near NYC so I don’t know how one would want to drive to hit this trail. One thing you can do is look at TrailLink.com. I believe you can see where the parking is for the trail without paying for a membership. However, you do need a paid membership to get GPS directions. Thanks for watching and I hope you have a great ride.

    Is that possible to go Hudson river valley by train from NYC?

    • @Adventuresonebikes
      @Adventuresonebikes  Před rokem +1

      Hi, Thanks for watching and your question. Unfortunately, I don’t have any information related to taking the train. I’m guessing that there would be stops, and there is a train station at the base of the Walkway Over the Hudson in Poughkeepsie. I think the bigger question is if you want to take a bike with you, how hard it is to make that happen with the train?

    • @Fayem718
      @Fayem718 Před rokem +2

      Yes, both Amtrak and MTA run trains from NYC to multiple points in the Hudson Valley.
