Right Honorable Christopher Luxon, Prime Minister of New Zealand, concludes his Official Visit to the Philippines that strengthened relations between the two countries, as he departs from Villamor Air Base in Pasay City on April 20, 2024.
The Prime Minister’s visit was the first dedicated visit by a New Zealand Prime Minister to the Philippines in the past 14 years. He held a bilateral meeting with President Ferdinand R. Marcos Jr. where they discussed enhancing cooperation in trade, investment, defense, environmental protection, maritime security and people-to-people ties.
Both leaders emphasized their respective nations’ commitment to upholding international law and agreement, as well as conveyed each other’s support to collaborate on global issues, including climate change and humanitarian assistance.
They also agreed on elevating the Philippines-New Zealand bilateral relationship to a Comprehensive Partnership by 2026, as both countries march onward to advancing shared security and economic interests.
As New Zealand envisions to double its exports in the next 10 years, the Prime Minister conducted a series of business engagements to forge more partnerships with Philippine companies.
New Zealand sees the Philippines as an emerging market for its exporters, set for expanded trade and investment.
He also met the management of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) to further explore regional opportunities and other areas of cooperation.
