Hello Marcus! This 10 of Swords card should indeed not be looked at as dark and awful. I am always happy to see the ( upright) Card because it gives me a feeling of relief ( finally this very difficult situation which bothered or hurt me no end, comes to an end. The light at the end of the tunnel! A new beginning is coming, because we finally gave up the terrible thoughts we had about ( probably) everything. So I see it as positive, BUT the reversed version can mean the continuation of certain bad situations, because, like you rightly said, the person thinks that the situation is not too bad and therefore the drive to change it, letting go, is not (yet) there. Fear of getting out of it can also play a role I think.
Imagine a woman / man in a terrible marriage, afraid of a divorce, someone working him/herself into a burnout and afraid of leaving the job etc.

I’m taking your tarot course and whenever I pull my daily cards, I always swing by to hear your thoughts on my card. This was today’s card. The oracles with it were about money in particular and community and walls, having mental prisons etc….I suspect we are headed toward a shift in the way we do many things that will feel like an upheaval or death but will result eventually in a huge improvement. I got this card reversed for a new career "overall vibe" reading. I am thinking deep on this one. It isn't clear.
