    Wait they don’t even have a baby SPF?!? That’s like the one product that would actually be useful 😂

    Here in Finland baby skincare recommendations are really minimal. Wash with water, use soap if they have actually gotten dirty with something that doesn't wash off with water (fatty food etc) and moisturize if needed. Daily baths are not recommended, 1-2 times a week is enough.
    My kids (2 and 4) wash their hair with shampoo a few times a year, we didn't use soap regularly for the first 1-2 years with either (none for the first 6 months). They have never had skin issues, other than dry hands or dry patches in the face in the winter when they are outside playing for hours each day. And I know this is cultural and some will think my kids are nasty and crusty, but it is quite normal here. I'm happy they have a good skin barrier and a healthy skin biome.

      @scienceislove2014 Před 6 měsíci +6

      Well ...babies that age have a really good strong skin barrier ... And it's normal unless you have some sort of skin condition like psoriasis or dermatitis...
      I hardly needed any moisturizer growing up (except in the winters.. mum used normal adult soaps on us ...and we did fine for most parts..).. I'm 18 now and I have started to develop bad skin barrier ... Acne dry patches... Etc..

      Pretty similar recommendations here in New Zealand too! Many midwives recommend wiping with cotton balls and olive oil if you've had to use soap in the first year - and NEVER buy Johnson & Johnson products.
      Most people write it off as kooky, but that's the current recommendations here ❤

    • @Qotus
      @Qotus Před 6 měsíci +1

      @@scienceislove2014 absolutely, but if you look at how people wash their kids in the states it's often daily baths with some body wash/soap and creams after so the skin doesn't dry out. I've heard many think our ways are nasty and unhygienic.

    I am no fashion history wiz, but I heard that the haute couture essentially has origins to seamstresses taking over women fashion, which created the draping dressmaking method, which is now basically the standard for luxury dressmaking. It used to be a female dominated industry, to the point that the term "couturier" naturally connotated a woman in a similar way "tailor" connotated a man, but as of now only a handful of existing haute couture fashion houses are either found by or still creatively lead by women.

    The irony of Dior's approach to fashion is that that kind of opulence and fabric use is the epitome of what allowed female dressmakers to have their own fashion houses and were known for, primarily because that kind of dress you could not just make without making close measurements on the body, until men with the captial started setting their foot into the business.

  • @20thcenturyrelic

    Thanks for the video, Cassandra! Yes, these are ridiculously overpriced products. There's really no reason to buy products labeled for babies; they have the same ingredients as adult products, just in different packaging and with different fragrances. And different prices.
    That said, I'll admit I've bought body wash labeled for babies because it was the only product I could find that showed no fragrance ingredients in the ingredients list. I've also used it as hand soap. Yes, body wash targeted to adults and labeled as "hypoallergenic". "unscented", and "fragrance free" can actually have fragrance in it. In the US, there are no legal definitions for these terms, so marketers can use them freely in advertising and packaging. I've had to learn to read ingredients lists.
    Speaking of fragrance, this is where I part ways with you. There's ample evidence that fragrance in skin care, body care, and makeup products is harmful. It may not cause visible irritation, but daily use of fragranced products can cause long term damage to the skin, just like cumulative sun damage. I have a link I could post to support this, but posting links in CZcams comments seems to cause the comments to be deleted.
    I'll grudgingly admit that fragrance is more harmful in products left on the skin such as body lotion, facial moisturizers, sunscreens, etc. than in products that are rinsed off such as cleansers and body wash. But seriously, y'all, go fragrance free. Your skin will thank you.

    YSL didn't leave as he was draft, he put out a few controversial collections and people on Dior that were influential at the time and were keeping him from being obligated to serve the army, suddenly no longer wanted him there anymore, so they did the reverse and had him sent to war, he had a nervous breakdown there and ended up in a hospices, his boyfriend at the time was the one that managed yo get him back safely. After he went back and recovered he opened his own brand that carried his name.

    I guess the rich are really bored now, if they resorted to making their babies skin health a part of their novelty experience. Unless the babies have skin ailments, as newborns and infants they need practically nothing, as a toddler a moisturizer and maybe a sunscreen, and even then it's better to just keep their skin covered in clothing.

I have used multiple drugstore products in the past, and even bought the new Ordinary pink serum and I hated it. I also know that luxury products are overpriced for what it is, but I like and I buy the experience. So, I’m gonna buy this line for myself 😂 Why? Because I like the look of them. 😆

  • @BlackieLadida
    @BlackieLadida Před 6 měsíci +1

    Yes. It's completely guano delulu(batshit crazy), but that's in the Dior spirit. Dior has always been for the people with more money than brains. It's extreme mindless luxury, only for the people who fit into that.
    Use it on yourself, I don't care. But a kids sensitive skin doesn't need to be exposed to things that will only set them up for an allergy, skin irritation and so on.
    Stick to the basic non-frageranced, tried and true. That way, when they do want to try something cool when they're older, they can.
    But at the end of the day, these luxury brands doesn't have your kids best interest in mind. They just want your money.

    So Cassandra is kind of wrong in the history part. Women in the 1940s were NOT being frugal to save money. Fabric, along with many other supplies LIKE FOOD, was being rationed at the time for the war effort. They could only buy limited amounts. Women stopped wearing silk stockings because the military needed silk for parachutes! Women stop wearing corsets because the steel is needed for the war, etc. This was true for pretty much everyone in a country involved in the war. Skirts get shorter, and clothes are more practical/androgynous because of the shortages and women entering the workforce and war effort in significant numbers. And that is if you are "lucky" and in a country that isn't actively besieged, in which case you have supply shortages because you're being bombed or invaded etc. Dior's New Look only happens because fabric stops being rationed, and there's suddenly a market for luxury and more femininity because the war is over.
