A really rocky sounding jig composed by Dougie Maclean. Made very popular by it's use in the film 'The Last of the Mohicans'.
Instruments on this video are acoustic fiddle, synth (roland jp8000) and bass guitar.

Thank you everyone for your very warm comments. It makes such a difference to know that someone is also enjoying listening to this video.
This is the only version of this song where I stop what I'm doing and just take it in every time I hear it.
Been 4 years since i first saw this vid, still enjoying it to this day
I want to play this song...but haven't notes...can you help me???)))

God this song just does something to my spirit that cannot be explained with words, thank you!
Love the slightly wailing notes of this fiddle. Exactly as I imagined it would have been played in period. Had it been written then. Haunting.
I feel this in my heart and soul. Thank you! ❤ My father was a fine fiddler in Missouri 1905.
I have heard at lest 20 differant version of thus..including duggy s own playing in several occasion...this one stands out...transition notes are really giving me goosebump.this playing touches my heart ..love and respect from calcutta...India ❤️🙏🇮🇳
I made another recording as well, czcams.com/video/EoKC53OExwU/video.html
When you can say you have truely mastered a musical instument
I always find myself coming back to this video, for years now. Wonderfull rendition and my absolute favourite. ❤
EXCELLENT.. Best sound I've heard from several CZcams videos... and you are not posing.. running.. jumping... acting or running around in something scanty (thanks for sparing us!) STRAIGHTFORWARD GOOD PLAYING! Excellent.
Well it can be arranged, but would probably be done better by one of my grandchildren, haha..
Regarding wearing something scanty, sorry I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy..
+peakfiddler hahaha Good on you Sir :) Amazing playing, really made me wish I knew you as a person :)
My thoughts exactly! Thank you, Peakfiddler.
😅
I liked this comment 1k timea
Wow. I love it when musicians feel the music rather than play it.... peakfiddler you're amazing. Never stop!
I love how he accents the glissando (or whatever it is called in violin terms)
Sounds very Scottish in the best of ways
Is it slur?
True mastery of instrument and the way the music is supposed to make you feel
🕯🌏very true
Simply best performance ever of this song! Greetings from Italy.
Thank you from New Zealand 🇳🇿
You Sr, play for the Gods, we just happen to be blessed and able to listen to it too
Keep see sawing Mr. Fiddler, love your work from Australia.
Thanks Amelia and Christine, retirement is great. Means you can spend more time to doing the things you enjoy the most..
I love this version. It's hard to put your finger on it but some musicians can elicit a mood. This song really does it for me.
My 1st time listening to any kind of solo violin music just beautiful thanks. Don't think I seen you blink once 😀 true commitment
The Best 'Interpretation' I have ever heard! (Other than Dougie of course😉)
Sweet sounding violin 👌🔥🔥🔥💖
What a treat! Never heard this tune before. Beautifull tune, and playing!
The work of a master ! Great mastery and comfort how you seamlessly play with the tunes and the western American touch you gave it , absolutely perfect !
❤️I love the Gael, Thanks again mr Peakfiddler,
Men... I can't stop listening... I want to play this like you do!!! Thank you, your awsome! Big hug from Portugal!
I bought the soundtrack to the movie for just this piece of music. It's gorgeous, and haunting, and is played wonderfully here. (I'm a teacher and used to teach at a school where all 3rd graders took violin lessons. One year I decided to take lessons with my students, and the results were hilarious. I think the teacher "passed" me on three songs, out of pity and because then she wouldn't have to listen to me play anymore ;) and my students learned a dozen or more songs that year.) To sum up my rambling: playing a violin is difficult, but playing with such artisty and emotion... that's a whole other thing.
That's a real challenge, well done for having a go and adopting such a positive take on your experience
Beautiful, I am so jealous as I wish I could play this :)
I made a teaching video showing how I play this tune, if that would be useful for you.

It,s a great joy, thanks . Love the way you play the fiddle..and touch the sound
Fucking incredible audio quality and talent. 10/10
I just can’t believe anyone could play this.
Well done 👍🏻
Just learning this now, so good to return to this gorgeous recording, thanks Peak!
Nice looking telecaster in the background! But jokes? aside, thanks so much for these videos. I'm learning loads from watching your bowing.
Just can't stop listening to it. Oh such an awesome and superb performance. Greato worl sir, such a beautiful tecnic and great sound!
I have just added a link to the musical notation of the version which I play.
where would i find this?
goo.gl/OkaEBA this is a google shortened link to a page on my facebook area
peakfiddler you rock, thank you!
That was incredibly beautiful; thank you!
Thanks! I’ll try this. I have Dougie’s tune book and was struggling to make sense of this tune which in his book starts high and gets higher. Your version is lower in tone which I like.
Well nicely played sir, likely Dougies most popular tune, thank to theh mohicans
I can even remember the last time that I saw a feeling player like this. Awesome work, If I play I would play like you with that feeling and little dance. This song is good for the soul and spirit, it's impossible to be quiet. Greeting my friend, very good!!
oooooh I remember this from the movie! what excellent playing ! what an good film ! it pulls at you from within!
trouble with movie they played it all through the film for about 2 hours its took years before i could listen to the tune again good playing peak fiddler
so beautiful!!!
The way you transition into the 2nd part of the 1st “verse” at 0:15 and then just hold those notes right after instead of trilling them (like in the original) seriously makes ALL the difference and so makes it so much better. Also the slight sliding sounds you make when you change notes and that you trill the “call” and not the “response”. This should have been the way it was originally written imo. Adds so much more emotion. BRAVO!
I hope that made sense lmfao
Thank you for your interesting analysis and comment. Best wishes
It doesn't even matter if I don't understand the "musical technicalities" you are taking about, but, "This should have been the way it was originally written,... Adds a lot more emotion," is something a lot of people who have listened to this would have felt. Somehow it just felt like Mr. Chris Perry's interpretation just feels right in your ears.
BRAVO!!!!....U MADE ME CRY!!!!...I LUV MY ANCESTORS!!!...WITH ALL MY HEART
I can see it right away how you do enjoy playing this masterpiece that's why that sound is alive... learning to play violin, hopefully in a year I will be able to play this tune.
The violin is a fantastic instrument and will always provide you with pleasure and enjoyment, have fun.
you and john Sheehan are my favourite fiddle players.
