  • INSTRUCTIONS: In this video, I'll show you how to take apart a Honda headlight. 12 minutes at 230 Fahrenheit. You'll know when the sealant is good to go because you'll smell it. Work on it while it's hot and pliable. There are 4 screws in the corners. After that, it's all sealant and tabs! Requires a moderate amount of force. But be careful, don't pull too hard to do it quickly. Use a good amount of force, and take your time.
Don't be too forceful with the black back casing. When hot, it becomes very pliable. Once you remove the black casing (separate the clear casing from the black), the black casing will inevitably be bent all over the place. Especially all the tabs. Quickly pop the black back casing back into the oven as soon as you get it pried off. Give it about 7 minutes in the oven at 230 F, and rework it into its original shape while it's hot and soft. This is an important step!!!
Sorry I couldn't capture the whole process. We needed all hands on deck! I highly recommend having someone help you.
If you're wondering why I had to do this, it's because I tried to clean out moisture inside the light with alcohol and that caused some weird film inside the headlight to break off so I had to disassemble it to completely clean it out. Word to the wise: Do not use alcohol to clean the inside of the lense!
To reassemble, place all components of the headlight back in the oven at 230 F for 13 minutes. With it still hot, apply Permatex clear RTV adhesive silicone sealant. Be generous. Use a thick bead. Carefully press it back together, re-engaging all tabs and re-install the 4 screws. The ideal is to do this carefully, but also as quickly as possible. You will not get it to seat properly if that gray stuff gets stiff! Be careful to not get the sealant to smear or get it anywhere on the lense! Clean up any smears quickly! Clorox/Lysol wipes worked well for clean up. Let cure for at least 24 hours.
Also. Be careful with the shiny reflective material! It can break off and/or buff out easily! Ask me how I know. :'(

Can you remove the yellow reflectors?

I didn't attempt to. But I don't think you can. It may be possible, but I'm thinking when you remove them, you'll damage the black portion. Maybe there is some guidance on a forum. Sorry I can't answer for certain.
