    Out of curiosity, there's a two bolts that hold the injector in. How do you torque them to make sure they are applying equal force to the injector? Don't they have to be tightened equally to make sure the hold down bracket doesn't get cocked?

    Hi, sorry, I have a Cummins 8.3 engine, I changed the new injectors but it does not turn on.

    Do you have to take the rocker arms off? I'm only changing my injectors and not going to adjust anything.

    Do I have to pull the tubes and lines if I’m only replacing injectors???

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  Před 3 lety +1

      Yes. The tubes engage the injectors and the lines hold the tubes.

    I have a 2000 Ram 2500, I bought from a friend and it’s in real good shape but just had a few minor problems.... I have sorted them all out except one, it will start fine when it is cold... then let it run, shut it off and let it sit for about 15 minutes, then it won’t start. Previous owner put a new injection pump and lift pump, I have put new fuel filter, fuel pump relay, and just finished replacing all six injectors... I fired it up after bleeding the fuel system, let it run for about 20 min, then tried again to start and it would not start... I’m desperate for suggestions... but I fear I am going to have to submit and take it to a professional

      *NOT A DIESEL MECHANIC*
      Sounds like your getting a little air in the system. Check your torque for your crosstubes I constantly see that being an issue.
      Are you 100% you got all the old copper washers out of the injector ports?

      Check to see if you have 12v at the ECM lift pump plug. It is known to go bad inside the ECM.

    I have an 02 24v cummins, about to hit 220k miles, I'm not looking at installing new injectors but cleaning the old ones, is that a good idea or should I not clean them and just leave it be

      Pulling the injectors and having them pop tested for correct opening pressure is always a good idea, especially on high mileage trucks.

    • @thoroughbreddiesel
      @thoroughbreddiesel  Před 7 lety +4

      Yes, the fuel line torque is critical and we apologize for missing it in this video. Tighten all fuel lines to 28 ft. lbs.

    Just out of curiosity, and this may have been asked before, when you said the torque specs for the Injector Hold down bolts, did you mean 89 ft/lb? Or did you mean as you said 89 in/lb?

    • @duttydiesel8303
      @duttydiesel8303 Před 5 lety

      He meant INCH POUNDS!!!!
      You will break this machine bolt off long before you will get 89 ft/lbs.
      Think about it this way... generally you torque your lug nuts to ~100 ft lbs.... now look at the size difference between the hold down bolt and the lug nut.... The hold down is maybe 25% of the lug nut, there for leaving you around 25ft/lbs at 25%.....
      If my rough calculations are correct 89in/lbs is roughly 7ft/lbs? (torque wrench only goes down to 20ft/lbs) so you need a different torque wrench than for your tires.
      Hopefully this answers your question, if you have anymore please subscribe to my channel I'm constantly trying to make new videos even on stuff that has been done in the past, I don't hide my mistakes either.... I want the world to know where I made my mistakes so that they may have a fighting chance on not making the same ones!!
