I am SuperDerek and this is Fallout: New Vegas!
Black Isle Studios was a subsidiary of Interplay Entertainment famous for their work in on several Computer RPGs of the late 90s and early 2000s. Most notably Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance II, and Fallout 1 and 2. In December of 2003, facing dire financial strain, Interplay made the decision to lay off the entire Black Isle Studios team who were currently in the process of developing a game codenamed Van Buren, or what would have eventually become known as Fallout 3.
Leading up to the closure of Black Isle Studios, Interplay's serious financial situation resulted in the loss of the studio's license to produce Dungeons and Dragons titles, resulting in the cancellation of Baldur's Gate III: The Black Hound and Baldur's Gate: Dark Alliance 3. Feargus Urquhart, of Black Isle Studios, became convinced that staying at Black Isle Studios was no longer a viable option, and left the team, taking with him Chris Avellone, Chris Parker, Darren Monahan and Chris Jones, and together they founded a new studio...

Im definitely in the camp of believing NV is still the best modern Fallout we have combining the old with new.
The New Vegas dev team deserved that bonus. If only Bethesda gave them more time to squash the bugs so they could push up the critic scores.
Fixing bugs on Bethesda's engine is an exercise in polishing a turd, but I know what you mean. :)
One of the very few ROLE PLAYING Games where you actually feel as if you're Role Playing. Obsidian did such a brilliant job with the dialogue options / skill checks, and the different approaches you can take to solve whatever problems you encounter. You can role play whatever type of character you want and the game doesn't stop you or force you to make choices that seem out of character, unlike the latest fallout where you can only role play as generic yes man A or generic smart ass B.
EHhh, New Vegas isn't unique in that. I wouldn't say New Vegas allows you to 'role play' any character though. The role playing is deeper than in bethesda's games, but not nearly as broad.

Good review, I might have to give this game a chance on PC. Also, idk about you but rest in piece Baldurs gate dark alliance 3. Those games were so good
When I get around to play a Fallout game, I'll probably start with New Vegas, but for now I have business with other games
This is my favorite Fallout game. The map is smaller and isn’t as expansive as 3 or 4, but the NPC’s, story, and dialogue are a lot richer and more colorful than the other installments. I wish Bethesda would get Obsidian to make another Fallout game. Maybe 76 wouldn’t have been such a giant turd if it had been an Obsidian title instead of a half assed MMO.
As I’ve only played the game on console, the stability mod would be a blessing in itself to play because of how limited the hardware is.
Another great review on yet another fantastic game to add to the game collection.

I very seldom play FPS but had heard so many good things about New Vegas that I recently bought The Ultimate Edition for PS3. Therefore really glad to learn more background here and hear your thoughts!

I recently replayed both games and while I prefer the setting for Fallout 3 Vegas outclasses it in terms of story, atmosphere, and gameplay. Also some of those vaults were genuinely creepy.
Vault 22 - the plant-people vault, and that other one with all radiation still make me tense up just thinking about 'em! xD

Great game. A complete rpg. Very responsive to your actions and with a lot of systems and different ways to finish it. But i would say that my favorite will keep being 2 after all
I still need to make my way back to the older Fallout titles, really excited to since I hear so much about Fallout 2 especially. :)

I played this one less than a year after completing F3, and I remember not liking it nearly as much. Your excellent review has sparked my interest once again, and I will indeed return to the wasteland that is my dusty PS3 once again.
I didn't get into Fallout 3(being on PS3 and game crashes didn't help), but have always thought if I try to get into Fallout again it would be with this game. Great review.

As a tester for New Vegas's DLCs many years ago, I agree that Old World Blues is the best DLC and the funniest part of the game. My time testing DLC1 prompted me to frequently say, "Crit his face off!"

What a surprising pick. Good call though! This game is amazing and feels a little underappreciated. The soundtrack itself is so great that I still listen to it sometimes today!
I really needed something to help wash the taste of "the power of friendship" out of my mouth after that Kingdom Hearts marathon! This game did just the trick! :)

I am currently playing this on the PS3, I know far from the best option but I am enjoying it so far.
New vegas was the pinnacle of fallout.
In my opinion this is the greatest RPG game that has ever been made
Ahh Fallout New Vegas my first PS3 game. I actually wanted Mass Effect 2 but the Walmart I got my PS3 had New Vegas and didn't have Mass Effect 2. Still New Vegas would have been high on my priority list and I would have probably gotten it when I got Fallout 3 GOTY that weekend had things gone according to plan.
This is definitely my favorite 3d Fallout so far though I am hoping Bethesda learns from the mistakes made in '76 and 4. The Outer Worlds is at the top of my current pre-order priority list.

Right now it's kind of up in the air, but I'm planning to stream weekday evenings for at least the next few weeks :)
For me, Old World Blues is probably the best DLC ever released for any game, with maybe Tiny Tina's coming in second. Nothing like having Dr. Venture himself telling you to stay away from the walking eyes.
Definitely the best of the “Elder Scrolls with guns” series of games. Fallout 2 is still my favorite.
Yeah! I need to play this! Good news though, I've recently got my hands on a Pentium 3 computer, and I'm getting ready to load it up with Windows 98. Thing oughtta be able to handle Fallout 1, 2, Arena and Daggerfall handily, if all goes well! :)
I love the story of New Vegas but I prefer the mechanics of Fallout 4. Which is why I am excited for the FO4 NV Mod thats on the way...one day lol

@SuperDerek RPGs Baldur's gate Dark alliance were console hack'n Slash games, you're confusing them with 'Baldur's gate' the RPG series on the PC. It would be more accurate to say Black Isle are known for Fallout 2, Planescape Torment, Baldur's gate 2 and Icewind Dale

It's an amazing looking game but 200 hrs of game play is a bit daunting. You make a good case for it tho
The main quest is much shorter than that. It's only 200 hours if you really take your time and get to do absolutely everything, including the DLCs
Interplay (now Obsidian) are the original creators of Fallout 1, Fallout 2 and Fallout Tactics. Long live The outer worlds! P.S. Try "Fallout 1.5" - a mod for Fallout 2 and see the choice. Also Fallout 1 and 2 - try every dialogue (a hint: every choice matters, also in the dialogues, no 4-keys dialogues, but actual reactions and consequences in the quests). Also there is a karma for every town and it unlocks different attitude towards you when visiting the town and when speaking! Sometimes the villagers will attack you directly, if you made something evil towards the town!
I've never been interested in shooting games personally.

If there's no Black Isle/Obsidian involvement, it just isn't a proper Fallout in my eyes. Bethesda just can't write 'em.

It's too bad how disappointing The Outer Worlds ended up being.
A solid game but horribly overrated and definitely not on the same level as the original Fallout.
New Vegas was the least fun of the last 3. Still pretty fun but boring in many aspects
Nah. I dont think so, the game has A gazillion of skill checks and responses very well to your character s builds. Its very fun to just can do almost everything (like exterminate every faction) and see the consequences. I think its too much more fun than 4 and personally prefer it over 3.
@@templariox32 Quality over quantity. You never heard of the expression? Don't matter how many skill checks it has, what matters is how much it improves. And New Vegas was barely an upgrade. 4 was, in almost every way. Was a good balance for action RPG. 3 and NV just wasted the action. Plus the awful map NV had yuck
