    The lord of the rings Ewoywn Shieldmaiden might be my favorite precon in the last few years for new players. It's 3 colors, primarily a boros aggression style deck with ways to refill your hand. I made a $20 version of the deck (including commander and all non basic lands) and it even beat an edgar markov deck. Super fun to swing tons of humans and keep on going! Not to mention all the support humans get in jeskai and they're cheap!

    My favourite commanders to give new players are my aristocrat decks (Meren and Teysa), or a more combat based deck like Mirri. You are right about typal being a great start!

      I agree! I think aristocrats and recursion stuff like Meren just lessen the stress of losing your stuff and have such straightforward value engines and I feel like that goes a long way in making people more comfortable starting

    As an alternative to Breena (who is great) there's also Sarevok Deathbringer and Noble Heritage. He politics well and puts a squeeze on the game. Orzhov has a metric ton of Edict creatures (fleshbag marauder, Plague Crafter, Demon's Disciple) and so forth for you to play on your turn to satisfy his leave the battlefield trigger. Eventually they will of course realize you are the problem and start removing things on their turn or try and force you to lose things with attacks - but white has fog effects (and black has one but it's prohibitively expensive for most people) to make combat a stale mate and hopefully put your opponents in a position where nothing has left the field on their turn forcing them to take Sarevok's end of turn damage trigger. You can also load the deck up with enchantment support (duelists heritage, Flaming fist, Criminal Background - etc) - he makes a very effective Orzhov enchantments and edicts deck. Though he might not win you "friends" per se.

    Some great ideas for beginners. I played magic from '98 - '02 then took about 21 years off. Just started back last year and got into commander. I started off with a couple of tribal/kindred decks and a Queza life gain/drain wheels deck. Definitely some good ways to get into the game as a new player.

    My favorite commander for New Players is Original Atraxa, because she teaches players about what permanents are impacted be proliferate and is flexible as a 4 color commander. Now I'm going to buy some singles on TCGPlayer

    Bruenor Battlehammer - Load the deck with living equipment and those Mirrodin equipment that pop in with a rebel and the Kaldheim equpment that had a "pay 2" or whatever to make a token whatever and attach it to them. You wind up with a commander that can go surprisingly wide as a really potent anthem effect so you don't run into the issue of all your eggs in one basket that voltrons have. The cards are all fairly cheap because the equip costs can be high. For your alarming hay makers out of the blue if you pick up Arden and hold him in hand until someone inevitable pulls a board wipe, you can summon him and then re-summon Bruenor and slap ALL of the equipment on him right out the gate (assuredly something you have will give him haste) at the start of combat whereupon he becomes a hulking murderous win con dwarven king of avenging his fallen subjects who will almost certainly annihilate the first person you swing at with his sheer absurd power (creatures getting +2/+0 for EACH equipment attached to them gets REALLY out of hand with four or so). Alternatively you're in Boros, so you have a lot of Indestructable effects to survive those board wipes others throw out (or even your own if you're cheeky and have a board wipe and a Boros Charm in hand for example).
    Really affordable, surprisingly potent.

    My Brena deck is one of my favorites. I have affectionately named it Oppressive Student Loan Debt and it focuses around lots of rattlesnake effects that keep other people from attacking me while incrementally gaining value (and a GIANT Brena). I have not updated it in a while, but it is still incredibly fun.

    The deck I will lend to beginners is Chatterfang. I have it built pretty simply, make all the squirrels then either swing or sac them for a win. Nothing too complicated but does have some powerful lines.

    I feel like Karador Hulk would be a good beginner deck for people who want a deck they can upgrade for quite awhile, and that has access to multiple hulk piles if it desires. Karador is probably going to be mostly Golgari, but it's easier to build in some ways because of the mix in of White, meaning it's more consistent than Rakdos at the cost of a bit of speed. I saw people are doing Hulk piles like Samwise, Carrion Feeder and Cauldron Familiar to just go infinite on the spot, but the crazy part is it leaves up 2 pips for Grand Abolisher! That's just wack IMHO, but Hulk wasn't a very good deck in cEDH before, and I doubt this'll break that badly, so it's probably just right for a newbie aiming to eventually have an 8.

    Im kind of surprised you didn't mention any lands matter/ landfall commanders. More specifically tatyova or aesi. When i first got into commander I didn't run enough lands, ramp, or card draw. I found aesi and it really taught me the value of all those things. Tori mentioned merfolk and how that deck really helped her with upping her interaction pieces. I think simic landfall can do a similar thing, it can start out budget and big splashy stuff, and can grow with the player and turn into a real powerhouse.

    Henzie is a great commander for new players, since it's multiple colors but really all you need is some ramp spells, some utility cards, and some Jund guys with ETB, attack, or death triggers that are around 4 or 5 mana. You can make it as expensive or as cheap as you want and it's a deckbuilder's paradise so you can really bond over suggestions and pet cards in the deck; plus it's a little bit of everything and can help new players build a collection.

    Merfolks , elf's , dinosaurs ' vampires , humans , goblins is ez mode in magic definitely beginner novice very much suggest. Also I do suggest new players to play with less than 3 color decks. Start with mono or dual. A newbie is going to get overwhelmed. I have been playing Magic since it came out in 1993. I probably have 6,500 cards lol no I have not counted but I have boxes and boxes. And over 50 Commander decks built.

    My slightly off beat recommendation is just to build a card u already have. If you don’t know if you’ll like the format and don’t wanna throw money down for a precon or a new card grab one already in one of your boxes. Maybe a fun legendary from one of your decks in another format would be good to build around, and if you’ve already played it before you have a solid idea of how it plays.

    • @Luckie_7
      @Luckie_7 Před měsícem

      I like recommending the warhammer precons to warhammer fans bc they consistently like magic but I feel bad because they are already in a super expensive hobby and now I’m about to show them another one. They aren’t super easy to play but I find that ppl that play the table top game have the mental facilities to track a lot of game actions already. Also two headed dragon is great because you have a teammate to look at your hand and recommend stuff.

    I left MTG in the 90’s with 60 card Zombie and Elf tribals. Upon returning years later I discovered Commander and really enjoyed it. What was immediately terrible IMO was the amount of graveyard hate. Reluctant to give up zombie tribal I discovered Varina, the Lich Queen in Esper. The addition of blue and white helped solve issues and also Varina cares little about a thick graveyard. Typically youre exiling it anyway. Long story short, If you share my enthusiasm for zombies try Varina. Elves do elves no matter what. They’re akin to rabbits. Lol. I have a lot of love for both Lathril and Varina. They were my go-to commanders early on.

    they say red cards are not expensive.. ragavan and dockside looking with confusion... also tribals (except sliver) creatures can be cheap but the cards to hold the board or protect your board state etc. or the synergy cards like urzas incubator, coat of arms, heroic intervention/teferis prot., aggravated assault, defender of the heart etc etc. can get really pricey.
