Why is it the banks fault?? they have no authority to tell you what to do with your money-----and where were the so called family during this scam???

Agree 100% with your comment, how is the banks business what WE do with our money once we WITHDRAW it from the account???? Banks cannot be BABYSITTING anyone, and it is not THEIR job to anyway. We are the ones responsible for OUR finances! 🙄

Exactly...yes, well said. How's the bank at fault in all of this, this woman is insane. Obviously WE are responsible for our own finances, not to mention if family believes someone's unfit to manage theirs, just like you said...they should have stepped in to remedy the situation. 🙄

Seniors are stubborn and they won't always tell family what is going on, especially since the scammers insist that they not tell anyone yet. The banks cannot keep track of everyone's personal business, but I believe my Credit Union would confirm by phoning me because the area is so small and they recognize our voices and some of us have assigned reps to deal with our investments. Besides that, they want all our money in their bank, not sent away to a scammer.

At this time I put on hearing protection then give them a good toot with my boat horn. I usually hear a lot of expletives right afterwards and they almost never call me back. :-)

People keep saying its not the banks job to monitor or supervise and that couldn't be further from the truth. While the bank isn't fully responsible, their is some neglect and liability here. These withdrawals for these amounts are out of character and warrant suspicion for anyone that's paying attention. I have never been able to withdrawal money from my account for unusual large amounts without my bank stopping it and questioning it. Not one time. First I get a text, then a phone call from thr fraud deptment asking questions. If I want to make a large withdrawal I have to let my bank know 48 business hours in advance and let them know where its going. Thats the protection! Thats why we bank. Hello! I have been written bank checks and the minute I tried to cash it, the check was flagged and they are on the horn trying to contact the owner of the account to verify and ensure the transaction is authorized. Whats the purpose of the check? Do you have proof that the use of this check will be uses for its intended purposes? The bank failed this elderly woman. Point Blank Period! If the bank bothered to have one dam conversation with this woman it would have screamed red flags a d saved her lots of heartache. She mid as well keep her money in her dam back pocket if the bank is too shitty to do their fuckin job. 😠 The rest of the fault is on her no good ass daughter! Where the hell was your antennas while yo mama was losing her life savings! Nobody wants to take responsibility.

An old lady at my work is currently getting scammed by this. She spent all her rent money and rent was due 6 days ago. She will be homeless (again) soon... she just got off the streets and moved into an apartment a few weeks ago too... shame. Now winter is here, and we live in the sub arctic, so she cannot be homeless here, no one can in the winter.
So crazy that this lady at my work thinks she won a contest for a house, whe she lives in an apartment?
The bad guys got 450$ so far. Im her boss so i will talk to her tomorrow. Ive already talked to her about It a whole lot. Everyone has. She still doesn't think its a scam. She keeps saying she hopes it's not a scam, but she keeps sending more money???
Insanity! Payday isn't for 11 more days. They are going to kick her out of that apartment.
She's been out of gas and cigarettes for like a week. She's walking to work. She skips lunch because she has no lunch or money. She gave those scammers everything she had. Shes only 60 but she has a meth user face and she talks to herself constantly so i think she has meth induced brain damage / is high on meth at work.

I just got a call from an 876 area code number and the guy's accent was so bad, I could barely understand him. He wanted to know how far I lived from a Walmart or a Post Office and said he was with Publisher's Clearing House, but the rest of the BS was almost identical. My phone number was picked from a transaction at Walmart and I'd won 5 million plus a new Mercedes that would be delivered to my home, but I knew that couldn't be right and while I was talking to him, I googled the area code, then saw the warnings and told him he was a scammer and should be ashamed of himself, then hung up, then I blocked his number.

That is not something a lot of seniors can do since they were raised in a different time where it was impolite if you didn't answer the door or phone. They never thought it through that the person calling wouldn't know if someone was home or not. When I was about 7 my (European-raised) Mom made the two of us hide quietly inside the house a few times when a stranger knocked on our door. Up to that point, she would always feel obligated to buy something from the door-to-door salesperson until my Dad said to stop doing that. Glad that as a senior I do not have those hangups.
