BST is about the loss of innocence, the fall into temptation. That’s actually the simplest way to explain it. If you look online there are endless theories but I consider this one the best. It fits the concept of youth that BTS always brings to their songs

This song is what catapulted BTS onto the world stage, making western artists sit up and take serious notice. This is one of their most artistic and cerebral pieces, and puzzles everyone on first viewing. But it's a masterpiece, and figuring out all the little symbols is part of the fun of this music video. I vote yes on the dance practice, there is a lot that isn't shown in the music video.
This music video (Blood, Sweat, and Tears) has a LOT of symbolism which the others have already addressed. Plenty of biblical references, too, like The Last Supper, the apple of knowledge/temptation (repeated image in many BTS MVs), and the black and white doors/statues representing good and evil. The painting Jin is looking at in the beginning is called The Fall of the Rebel Angels. It's out of Revelations, a depiction of the archangel Michael and the rest of the angelic host driving Lucifer and those angels that fought on his side out of heaven. The painting V is sitting in front of on the balcony is called Landscape With the Fall of Icarus, representing the Greek mythological story of Icarus (repeated reference in many BTS MVs), whose father was Daedalus, a famed inventor. In order to escape from Minos, the island where they'd been kept prisoner by the king to create the labyrinth for the minotaur, Daedalus created wings made of wax. Icarus, in his joy at the freedom and wonder of flight, ignored his father's warnings and flew too close to the sun, causing the wax to melt, and he fell to the sea, and his death. The statue J-Hope was dancing in front of was a representation of the Pieta, which is Mary holding the body of Jesus after his crucifixion.
::above are facts, below are some theories (theories, mind you, none of this is confirmed fact)::
- V - fallen angel/the devil/the tempter/Demian (because this MV takes lines and a lot of inspiration from the book Demian ((repeated reference in many BTS MVs)), by Hermann Hesse)
- Jungkook - Icarus/child (hence why he's on that swing, constantly looking like he's falling, feather decals on the arms of his jacket, with feathers falling all around him - you can also see JK and RM close in the beginning, with RM reading a book to JK, like a father to his son)
- RM - Daedalus (drinking the green liquid ((absinthe)) and letting himself drown in substances to retreat from the depression of losing his son and unintentionally being the cause of his death - also why the picture of the bird with outstretched wings ((repeated image in many MVs)) goes up in flames)
- Jin - innocent man/Emil (also from the book Demian - he is the one being tempted by sin, and ends up giving in to temptation, sealing the deal ((with the devil - V)) with a kiss ((with the statue of the angel - V)))
- J-Hope (my personal theory) - cherub (not the soft and squishy cherub babies everyone typically thinks of, but the angels who encourage people to turn away from sin and grow closer to God - hence the bow and arrows aimed at V and the dancing in front of the Pieta as a reminder of the sacrifice made for mankind's sins - also why he looked so defeated sitting on the fountain after the kiss scene)
- Suga and Jimin - tbh, not sure, don't recall any theories off the top of my head, other than possible representations of see no evil, speak no evil, and hear no evil, (repeated reference in many BTS MVs - Fake Love, and the giant white hand sculpture they were dancing silhouetted in front of - look close, they are see/hear/speak no evil - the choreography has a lot of them putting their hands over their mouths, eyes, and ears) but also possible representations of sins, vice, and loss of innocence

V in this mv resembles a fallen angel, or devil, or Icarus, a Roman myth character that reappears in Bts' storyline.
Jin represents the loss of innocence or growing up in this mv.

Why have I only seen the video now? Well, it's been a while, but it's still a great reaction. Once you've heard BTS, you can never get away again. This is by far my favourite BTS video. Full of symbols, something between good and evil. V as a fallen angel. I just love this music video.

This is one of my most favourite mv. There are so many details and hidden messages, that you need to check many explanations to find them all x'D The video is about youth/boys growing up, falling into temptation and losing their innocence. Overall is a mix based on the Bangtan fictional storyline universe and the book Demian, a novel that explores the psyche of the narrator Sinclair (protagonist) as he grows up and loses his light (innocence). There are also a lot of mythological/Biblical references but I will try to mention only a few of them so my message wont be huge. The video opens with everyone walking into the museum together, but everyone is paired up: J-Hope with V, Suga with Jimin, Rapmon with Jungkook (a young member with an older member) except Jin who is the oldest. Jin looks at the painting, titled The Fall of the Rebel Angels by Pieter Bruegel. We know that the angels of heaven fell because of direct rebellion against God by siding with Lucifer, who corrupted the angels by sinful temptations. Next to the painting you can see a white door and a black door. That is the main message of the music video. Another example is when they are dancing ,behind them there is a dark devil statue under the white border and a white angelic statue under a dark border (there is always good into evil and evil into good). In his journey, Sinclair is learning that both light world and dark world is equal and coexist. RM is drinking Absinthe/Green fairy. It's a hallucinogenic alcohol and it was very popular among artists in old times. He gives a drop of the tempting alchohol to JK and we later see him in a static potition with feathers around him. Behind him is the painting of 'The lament for Icarus' . Icarus was trapped on a greek island with his father Daedalus who made wings out of feathers and wax for them to escape. His father warned Icarus not to fly too low so the humidity from the sea would not ruin the wings and also asked him not to fly too high so the sun would melt the wax that kept his wings together. Icarus ignored his father's warnings and flew too close to the sun. The wax melted his wings off and Icarus fell to the sea and died. Just like Daedalus gave to his son the temptation to fly, RM gave to JK the drink. Later we can see both JK and RM in a room filled with the green smoke. This green smoke reached Suga's room too thats why in some scenes you can see a green smoke inside his room (Green smoke= Absinthe). We can also find an another hint for Icarus & Daedalus story, the painting that V fall. The painting of Landscape with the Fall of Icarus shows a spectacular scenery of the sea, but you can see that there are a pair of legs struggling in the sea on the bottom righthand corner. That’s supposed to be Icarus after he falls. So we have this reoccurring motif of Icarus. The intersting thing is that V ,while sitting on the ledge of a balcony, looks back at us, cracks a mischievous grin, and jumps willingly. The statue behind Jhope is Michelangelo’s Pieta, which shows the Virgin Mary holding the dead body of Jesus Christ following his crucifixion and removal from the cross. In the Wings album (the whole album is based on Demian) J-Hope’s solo song is titled “Mama” and is about his mom but there are also ties to Demian with correlations to the character of Frau Eva, Demian’s mother in the novel (also Jhope's wings short movie has the symbol Eva). The storyline for the video is based on the literary novel Damien and the story of a fallen dark angel. The boys loosely represent the 7 deadly sins and coming of age faced with temptations. There is a whole storyline for this mv. They often reference literature in their songs. Originally Jin was to kiss Tae (who is a fallen angel) but they decided on a more pc option of the angel statue.
It really is a piece of art. RM is such a talented writer. The coolest was when this originally came out the boys had not really presented themselves in such a mature way and it blew everyone away. This was the year they won their first Daesang (like an AMA) and overcame all the criticism and hate they dealt with by being from a small record company (The year they took down the Big 3). It was the beginning of their rise!

The German sentence comes out of a book by Herman Hesse - Daïmon - a book that inspired their album “WINGS”, the subject being the battle between the angel and the evil inside any human being. You could see that the man lost his wings once he kissed the devil with his black wings. But indeed he needs to meet chaos before giving birth to his true self.

Those two BTS videos blow everyone else out of the water. Namjoon´s sexy brain with IQ reaching 150 and his crazy creativity finding inspiration in Hermann Hesse´s book are basic foundation blocks to the whole video and its story line. There is so much symbolism in this video and so much hidden meaning, Army has must have written novels about it already.
That´s what I love about BTS so much, it is not just their music, their singing and dancing, their looks ( in this video particularly each of them separately, imho, looks more attractive then the rest of female Kpop industry combined:-) but it is so much more with them.... all that brain work they demand from you when you listen to them and watch them, their music is not lazy and placid, not cheesy and shallow. And that´s what makes them extra special.
