    JPJ and Mr Entwistle taught me bass back in the '70's - when lifting the needle backing up and dropping it over and over till Ma screamed at me was the way to do it . . thanks.

    This song caused me to finally try bass after 30 years of guitar playing. Great teaching style, thanks. Especially appreciate the slowed down version. And thanks for the tab along with the music. Gives a quick jump start on playing while still actually know what notes I'm playing! Expecting this will let me quickly get up to speed to be able to play some basic bass lines along with others.

    McCartney and Jamerson. My two favorite bass players. John Paul Jones is my third favorite bass player.

    Great tip on the “rake” between the D and G strings. Makes it not only easier but sounds better!

    This song was the reason I first started listening to Bass lines. You did a great job of explaining it with good analysis. I did hear the Jamerson licks when you isolated it. Liked and Subscribed.

    Excellent tutorial, Tabs are helpful, yet after my teacher (classical) was so incessant on thumb behind the "neck!" I can now see exactly where your fingers are, so important, thank you.
    And yes Jaco was incessant on the thumb behind the neck ALWAYS.
    JPJ did play the fender jazz so it's relatively easy to get his sound the the fender jazz.
    Thank you again for your help.

    I just bought a Jazz bass a week ago and I just found this video. I love Jones' bass line on this song. Thanks for making the video and teaching me this bass line. Btw, I knew you were talking about McCartney and Jamerson in about three seconds.

      Thanks! I can't say for sure about the Jazz bass but i think so. I know he played an Alembic on some of the later stuff but I think at this point it was mostly jazz bass.

    Listen to how tight Bonham and Jones were. That's what allows that tight 16th note syncopation to happen.

      I play bass in a Led zep tribute band, it’s a constant struggle

    Do you know if JPJ was using "flats" on his jazz bass ?

    • @classicbasslines
      @classicbasslines  Před 2 měsíci

      Not really sure. But I think a good rule of thumb is: if you can’t tell, then it doesn’t really matter. Sounds like a jazz bass with a little bit of tone rolled off. I think you could get there with either - a little EQ and the right touch
