      The qualifying for the olympics is based on the u21 euros. If any of England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland got to the semi finals of the u21 euros then “Team GB” would qualify for the olympics (although that’s only happened 3 times: Scotland in 1992 and 1996, and England in 2008). The only time they reached the top 4 was in 2009 but it wasn't the qualifying tournament the 2011 one was. Gotta qualify for it, and the olympics are a 16 team tournament with 15 spots available between 6 confederations; that's why for me winning olynpic gold is a big deal, it is hard as hell just to get there and usually most nations do play their best under23 squad with the few nations like Brazil, France or if Great Britain played England, who will lose out on some of then due to the clubs not releasing then. Still, you could see how good Brazil's squad was even with over 10 players not having been released by their clubs to play olympic football. So it is a pretty good tournament

    • @Geokinkladze
      @Geokinkladze Před 2 lety

      @@davidhouseman4328 No because he got the preceding bit wrong, implying none of the 4 nations could qualify GB. But the IOC allow England to qualify on behalf of GB. When he says we have only entered a team once since 1960 he should really clarify that we have failed to qualify. We don't say England didn't enter the World cup in 94. We instead say we failed to qualify for it.

      Yeah, I don't get it. England arw decent to good in the U17 euros, pretty damm good in the U19 euros but super mediocre in the U21 euros and it ain't like they are not bringing their talent coz they actually usually do and it's the same guys that did well a year earlier in the U19. I wpupd understand if England was better in the U17 than in the U19 it would make sense for the U21 not to be as good but it's the opposite, how come they only reached the top 4 once in the last 35 years? That's kind of embarrassing especially considering they do pretty well in the tournament right before that age class

You also got his age wrong, zaha was not born in Oct 1997, he wld be your fourth over 24 age player, hence your selection wld be in violation of the rules and be disqualified from competing at all.

    Needs some more Non-English representatives!
    Jamal Lewis for NI
    A pair from Rodon, Ampadu, Neco Williams, Dan James, Woodburn or Harry Wilson for Wales
    Gilmour, Porteous, Taylor for Scotland
    No reason why our 3rd GK couldnt be Conor Hazard or Robby McCrorie rather than 3 English
    If this was done without allowing anyone who played at least 100 minutes for England's Euro 2020 side, at least 3 players for each Home Nation, and not allowing the Over 24s to be English then it would be a much more interesting discussion imo
