Back in the day concerts were like an organism, fans would come out in hordes and show their love and adulation for a band, in return they were showered with all the band could give. It really was THE best time for music.
Thank you brother for these wonderful strolls done music's memory lane.
Rest in Peace Cornelius Bumpas. He was the sax player as well as one of the vocalists. He was great on the song, One step closer.
Oh Lord. Jamel did the spin. He must really like this one. 😉😂
From 3:04-3:09 he was doing the electric slide... ✌ ❤ 🍻 🎶
Jamal for Prez 🇺🇸
I'm a big fan of The Doobie Brothers, and their parents, Mr. & Mrs. Doobie.
HEAD EAST - Never Been Any Reason
One of the coolest rock songs
Also Since You've Been Gone. It came on during a BBQ and my sons (Phish lovers) asked who it was. They liked them too.
Every member of the Dobbie’s so damn talented, any one of them can jump in and do their thing.
Thank you for posting, I’ve always wondered who sang their older stuff once Johnson left and McDonald took over! Brother was on vocals, keyboards AND sax! Awesome!
One things for certain....there was a lot of doobies being smoked in that crowd.
I went to a Doobie Brothers concert in 1976. I was 13. That was the first time I had ever seen a joint! I learned what it smelled like too that night! People were passing it around. I just knew I was going to get caught even though I was just passing it down the line!
This chanel and Jamel have honestly made my world a little bit better in truly difficult times. Dude, thank you for reminding us of all the amazing music we can share. Thank you for YOU.
"They got me tired!" Haha! That cracked me up! Another nice reaction as always.
This was one of the best bands from that Era I can say that I got to see them live
Ringo Starr's Birthday was today. "It Don't Come Easy" is a great one of his. Charlie Daniels, who passed earlier, was a player on Ringo's 1st solo album. A good one of Charlie's would be "Uneasy Rider".
@@ingridfitz6671 His son Zac must be in his mid fifties now, and he looks in his thirties. I know it's a little late but maybe I need to take up drumming.🥁✌
@@robertsaul234 Yeah, it's easy to forget _Sentimental Journey_ , given it was a cover album of standards.
Got to pay your dues if you want to play the Blues and you know it don’t come easy.
@@robertsaul234 Yep. Zak is now 55. Julian Lennon is 57 (!). Jason Starkey is 53. Mary McCartney and Lee Starkey are both 50. Stella McCartney is 48. Sean Lennon is 45. James McCartney is 42. Dhani Harrison is 41. Beatrice McCartney is 17. Where does the time go?
Yeah, they really were amazing.
I saw them either at the state or county fair, or at Garfield park auditorium. I was around 15, but any way they never let you down with the music or the showmanship! Great talent.
They were such a great band live!!! Their harmonies were to die for.
This is the era when Tom Johnston had left the band and Michael McDonald joined. Although the Doobies were very succesful during the Michael McDonald era, just not the same without the real driving force of the Doobies Missing.
He needs to listen to The Doctor, their single after Tom Johnston's return to the Doobies
I so agree David Hattman! I really liked the Doobies, and then I didn't- never really paid attention to the line up. It was Michael McDonald that I didn't like!! He is a great singer on his own, but he turned the Doobie Bros into a pop band!
They just straight-up killing it
Stood right in front of the stage watching them play. They are so awesome live...their sound is spot on. I had the best time at that concert back in the mid 80s!
Jamal, you’re more entertaining than the video!! 😂😂😂
Lol. Thinking the same thing, his reactions put a smile on my face.
It's 3:40 am woke from a nightmare found your reaction and it made me feel so much better Jamel, I can't thank you enough !!!
Gosh, this performance is so wow. This song also has a whiff of the groups Chicago and the Allman Brothers. Thank you Jamel for sharing this live version. I love the Doobie Brothers and somehow their music never gets old. Woo!
No one beats the Doobies for pure musicianship.
"The Brother", Cornelius Bumpus, was singing Tom Johnston's part in this performance because Tom had had to leave the band due to health reasons. (He had nearly died from a bleeding ulcer and had to be hospitalized on the eve of a major tour in 1975, which is how Michael McDonald became their front man; Jeff Baxter, formerly of Steely Dan, suggested McDonald as a replacement.) McDonald is a talented singer, to be sure, but his vocal range generally can't go *quite* that low. :D
Saw them in 72 with Tom and it was great. Never much cared for them after McDonald came onboard. But hey, they could have done worse. Went to the bank big time didn't they.
@greenmean1 Yeah, it seems like a lot of people have kind of forgotten the circumstances behind why Johnston was replaced with McDonald back then. :-) It wasn't like the record label made them do it; it was literally a life-and-death issue of Johnston having to go into the hospital RIGHT NOW, and there simply was no way he could have continued with the band.
Fortunately for us, he did regain his health, and rejoined the band when they got back together in the early 90s, and has been with them ever since. :) They're on their 50th-anniversary tour this year (or were supposed to be, before the virus hit), and I'm hoping I'll still get to see them later this year, as McDonald is joining them on this tour and they'll have both Tom *and* Michael performing. That should be epic!
I LIKED SKUNK HE'S A CHARACTER .VERY INTELLIGENT MAN .
THANKS TO HIM HE BROUGHT THE ARMED SERVICES OUT OF THE ANALOG AND INTO THE DIGITAL AGE !
WHAT A TALENT .
That whole live 81' recording is magical. Whoever engineered this knew what they were doing. The sound is flat out amazing!! Watch it all Jamel.
This is awesome !!!!!!
There's nothing fake about this performance it's a show stopper and that is something you really don't get today
Bobby Lakind was all over that percussion! He was another who died WAY to early. This was part of the NO NUKES Movement.
Our band used to do this song back in the 80's and when we started playing, folks got up and started dancing. High energy tune! EPIC!...PEACE!!
OH MY GOD, I was so entertained watching this video of you, your reaction, and of course the amazing talent and Doobie Brother's song and artist. Loved it all. Thank you for reviewing.
It might not be the original version but it's a damn fine version nevertheless.
This is a great live version but definitely missing Tom Johnston. Just not the same.
Try this one instead: czcams.com/video/eIi_GbFa_nw/video.html
Tom, Pat Simmons, and John McFee can still light up the stage. :-)
Love the dancing. He so gets it.A big Doobie Brothers fan.👍🏼
I really enjoy you and the music. Makes my life better, takes me back to good times. Saw them in 1978.
Jamel, this channel, out of all of my subscribed channels, is my favorite. I love that you look at the lyrics and really experience the song. Good job you handsome SOB!!
The Doobie Brothers were my 1st concert in 1979. I was 14 and my big Sis took me with her and her friends!! ❤️❤️
Fine vocal by the late, great Cornelius Bumpus!
Gotta love the rhythm of the Doobies! So good live!
The doobies! THE DOOBIES!!!!!!!!! When you want to hear MUSIC!!!! I LOVE that YOU love them!!!!!!
"I'LL BE OVER YOU" by TOTO. Their Father Joe Pocaro a well known session musician, a percussionist passed away at the age of 90. His sons Jeff, Mike and Steve Porcaro were members of TOTO (Jeff and Steve were founding members). Prolific studio musicians. Oh, and play the official video....you'll recognize a certain guest vocalist. 😉
Damn!!! I just keep missing how much I love all this music!! Love remembering it all with you!! So fun! Thank you
This is why we loved the Doobie Brothers.
I am a Doobie Brothers fan from the beginning and being so, I just wanted to let you know that this live version was from the 2nd incarnation of the Doobies (Mike McDonald edition) This is the 80's version. There is a big difference in the pre-80's Doobie sound (en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Doobie_Brothers#Original_incarnation) At any rate, these were tapestries of my era. Keep doing what you doing Jamel and like you tell us, stay safe
Not a huge difference live, as this shows. Still a jamming live band with funk and soul.
This was perhaps their best concert ever. Truly on top of their game.
Wasn't this a part of the DUMB, no NUKES movement. A lot of superstar performers but very little in the way of brains.
Musicianship, what a beautiful and wonderful thing!
Wow! First time for me also, perfection!!! Insane talent. Dang. That sounds SO good!! Michel looked over and smiled his nod of impressed approval ✨👌✨ I love that!! What a concert to buy..I'm gonna keep my eye out.
So glad I saw this...great drumming! Love to see Jamel enjoying it too!
Perhaps my most favorite Doobie Brothers jam! Great performance. Wished I could have been there.
Phenomenal! I am so glad you watched the live version. I never knew a brother was singing this either. Then 3 drummers, the guitarist rocked out and then the brother who was singing and playing piano starts playing the saxophone. My mind is blown.
Jamel, It was so cool! Andy & Alex - College Students was reacting to the Outlaws - Green Grass. In their intro, they were suggesting your channel and singing your praises! You are such a positive model to so many!
Texas Magnolia I love Andy and Alex they know their stuff. Sometimes they are a bit high though 😂
You so funny Jamel! I love how happy music makes you, I danced along with you on this one. Thanks for making our lockdown days happier ❤ (went just went back into strict lockdown in Melbourne, Australia for minimum 6 weeks). Love and strength to you and your family 😁🦋🌻
I saw the Doobie Brothers in the summer of 1982 for my 16th birthday. It was the best concert I've been to.
I saw the Doobies at an outdoor concert in 1978, and they totally kill it live, for sure!
This made my day. One of my favorite bands and you being all cute. Thnx :D
I was hoping this was the one you'd play. might not have Tom Johnston but the extra percussion solo made up for it. This whole concert was kickass.
Long Train Runnin w/o Tom Johnston Johnston ain't Long Train Runnin. JMHO
WOWWW! What a performance and what a reaction! Love it!
we lived for the jammin in the middle to the end of the song...it was amazing....bringing back makes me feel good
Hadn't heard this live Jamel, thanks so much! They were TIGHT!
Pat Travers - BOOM , BOOM OUT GO THE LIGHTS.
Elvis Costello - Oliver's Army.
I’ve been thinking Elvis Costello for some time. Oliver is great. What’s So Funny About Peace Love and Understanding, Alison, Everyday I Write the Book. Many greats
2 good ones, Elvis Costello was in a class by himself, that Pat Travers joint would be good too, would love to see him do reactions to the original version by Little Walter followed by the live Pat Travers version. Great comment.
You can never go wrong with The Doobie Brothers!
Yes Cornelius was a real gem! This tour was the first time I saw them. It was deemed their “Farewell Tour”. The last tour with Michael McDonald. But alas, they were set to reunite this year with him until...... you know the rest.
Prince, Tom Petty, Steve Winwood, Jeff Lynne and others -- "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"
I was never a fan of Prince til I saw that... Still not a fan, but now respectful of the talent he had.
Prince performance at the Super Bowl. My favorite. That's unless Pink performs at the Super bowl. That will be incredible.
React to “Walking In Memphis” by Marc Cohn if you get a chance, it’s a beautiful song, I think you’ll love it. Enjoy your reactions so much, you are very much appreciated.
Rest in Peace Cornelius Bumpus who was sax player for Doobies and Steely Dan. Go Bump Go, sing it!
One of the best live performances I’ve ever seen!!!!
Jamel, you're older than I thought! You must be "living right" to look so youthful.
Bro you gotta watch Takin It To The Streets from this concert.
@@jamelakajamal ......About 6 months ago, the Doobies played here in Reno, at the Grand Sierra Hotel & Casino....WITH.....Steely Dan. I'd have loved to have seen it, but I think tickets sold out immediately. I did get to see Michael McDonald when he came thru a couple of years ago.....& Steely Dan ( when I was still living in Santa Rosa, CA ).....sometime in the early 2000s.

Now THIS is a live performance for the record books! Wow! How great were they? LOVED the song, before, but seeing this just solidifies in my mind how really great this group was. When you're able for the quality to be this good, and the energy this strong during a live performance...what can ya say? INCREDIBLE! Thanks for your great reaction, Bro. You're the BEST!
My favorite Doobie Song. This version is hot. They are really fun to go see. Everybody is up dancing and singing having a good ol' time.
I stumbled on your channel by accident tonight, starting with your reaction to Black Betty. Rammstein is probably my favorite band and I was stoked that you did a few of their videos too. If I could make a suggestion for a future react video I'd request Avenged Sevenfold's A Little Piece of Heaven. I'd suggest the official video for it because it helps to tell the story, but the live version in the LBC is pretty epic as well. Subscribed!
Today’s equivalent would be the Vaporizer Brothers, and that just doesn’t work.
All of them were so talented. That's Cornelius Bumpus on keyboards/saxophone.
They hurt that thing ❤️ Y'all Rock Out Y'all Damn!!!!
Lots of Dire Straits still to be done... Brothers in Arms, Roller Girl, Espresso Love, Your Latest Trick, Tunnel of Love, On Every Street.
Romeo and Juliet, Private Investigations, Down on the Waterline... the whole catalogue!
Would love to hear your reaction to some Blues Traveler. The Mountains Win Again and The Hook are the 2 I’d recommend most and if you like those, which I think you will, then Runaround, But Anyway and Sweet Pain are also good ones. Take care and keep making great videos my friend.
Classic Doobie Brothers-------they just jam!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
What a GREAT BAND 👍 they were and are.
Jamel love your channel ,have you tried "Hot Chocolate " every 1's a winner ,,,,
I saw Doobie Brothers several times around 1970 or so playing for free on the beach in and around Santa Cruz, Northern California. They got their start playing at Hells Angels parties in the Santa Cruz mountains.
Best music ever back in the day breathtaking
Hi Jamel - Please check out these Stevie Nicks' duets: w/Kenny Loggins - "Whenever You Call Me Friend"; w/Don Henley - "Leather and Lace"; w/Tom Petty - "Stop Dragging My Heart Around"
stop draggin my heart around to Classic...I put that on my CZcams channel last year got those Mike Campbell guitar parts down.. fun to play along

if you're still talking Stevie duets too;
don't forget her and Lindsay on magnet and steel Walter Egan.
and that classic 1979 John Stewart gold..
If this song doesn’t make you move there is something wrong with you
Got to see them in 1980 and again in 2018 ... Fantastic both times!
This is the wrong lineup to watch. No Tom Johnston on lead vocals.
Very good version, but not the same lineup as album version , as well as not the same lead singer!
@@evannelson4203 Didn't Tom step away for a while due to creative differences with McDonald? To this day, historically speaking, I'm not sure how much they've actually shared the stage as members of the Doobie Brothers. Anyone know the story there? I was still a kid when this concert took place. Was McDonald a replacement lead for Johnston for a while until he eventually returned and regrouped with the Doobies?
Some interesting history from the WIKI:
The American band The Doobie Brothers has had a plethora of members since its inception in 1970, including guitarist/singer Tom Johnston and keyboardist/singer Michael McDonald. The Doobie Brothers employ official members and a small group of touring musicians, usually with a core group shown in promotional material. Guitarist/singer Patrick Simmons is the only constant member of the group, and the only one who has appeared on all of their releases.
Long Train Runnin' is pure FIRE and a VIBE!!!
most important message. "without love, where would you be right now?" not born thats where! seen!!! best song ever.
An unbelievably serious amount of talent in this band.
Nothing better than a live show!!
Never, never too much Doobie in the world.
You are one person that really entertains with your reactions. You are one person I would really like to meet in person and even have dinner with. I love how you want to bring all people to gether regardless of race. You are such a happy person and seem to always have a good time. Thank you.
What a Groove!!!!!
Amazing performance. Black and white together an unbeatable combination. Without love where would u be right now!? No where!! Brother J 🤘
That was super fun. Loved it.
Can't go wrong with the Doobie Bros... great reaction!

I absolutely love the Doobie Brothers! Most people have heard the most of the more popular songs , but I really like a song from 1972 that is a bit different. It is "White Sun"
You did totally right choice, Doobie Brothers is great live. And it doesn't get much better than this, incredible musicianship. :)
